Submission statements are mandatory on r/neoliberal

To keep the subreddit focused and high-quality, OP must post a submission statement as a top-level comment on every new thread.

Within 30 minutes of posting, please comment answering both of the following:

1. Why is this relevant for r/neoliberal? Give context: what does this have to do with neoliberalism, policy, institutions, markets, governance, or the kinds of topics we usually discuss here?

2. What do you think people should discuss about it? Share your own take, questions, or points of tension. What should readers focus on? What is interesting, surprising, or important about this?

Guidelines

Your statement should be in your own words and contain substantive content. Simple copy/pastes of the article’s lede, title, or tweet text do not count. Aim for at least 2–3 sentences for each part. More is welcome.

We will consider the submission and your statement together when deciding if the post fits the subreddit (including borderline or “minor” news posts).

Enforcement

Posts without a qualifying submission statement may be removed without notice. Very low-effort or purely descriptive statements (e.g. “it’s about politics” and nothing else) may also be removed at moderator discretion.

Of course, Fetterman still votes for this dogshit even though four other Republican Senator realize how much of a disaster it has been and joined the Dems

Dude would not stop from going on national TV to criticize Dems on this war but now hasn't appeared on TV when the MEU was divulged 1.5 weeks ago

Acting like this sub and liberals at large did not also fall for Fetterman pretty quickly is rewriting history to be quite honest

In fact, progressives actually abandonded Fetterman long before we did.

This sub was stanning Bezos and Musk until it became too embarrassing to do so

38

u/MindingMyMindfulness Voltaire Jun 23 '26

Yeah the sub only turned against Bezos when the WaPo refused to endorse Kamala. People here would've been deriding the "succs" who had a problem with him pre 2024.

20

u/CheetoMussolini Russian Bot Jun 23 '26

Hey, some of us turned against him well before that over horrible labor practices and uncompetitive behavior

But I'm also the resident succasaurus rex so

5

u/Khiva Fernando Henrique Cardoso Jun 24 '26

It's not shocking that you don't hate someone for being evil until they start doing evil shit.

Nor should we shame people for moving with the evidence. There was a time when there was at least reasonable evidence that Bezos wasn't evil - he'd bailed out the WaPo, which still produced quality journalism, and they'd make their liberalism their flagship, with his backing.

Stanning him would be a bit much but there was at least a reasonable case to not hate him. Succs hate billionaires on principle, liberals don't, so long as there's reasonable basis to believe that they've earned their position through value-added market innovation and are sufficiently hemmed in by social and legal regulation.

That time has passed.

Killing the Kamala endorsement and sucking up to Trump - well, that's flipping the switch from backing liberal values to declaring yourself an enemy. If liberal values are part of your core belief system, that's enough to flip the switch, if you want to remain evidence based.

So yeah, fuck Bezos and fuck anyone who abets this fascist descent.

6

u/allbusiness512 Adam Smith Jun 24 '26

Most succs really don't hate billionaires on principles, they hate billionaires for utilizing their wealth to rent seek in non-competitive ways and to corrupt government which (at least the American ones) many of them tend to do. At least the succs here.

I think you're thinking of tankies and leftists, who are whole different breed of political activists even from succs.

21

Yup I got so much shit for calling Musk a moron in the past. He didnt change at all during this past decade. He still says the same gibberish where he missuses scientific jargon and promises impossible things. Idk why it took him demanding twitter staff print out their best lines of code for review or the release of the CyberTruck for people to understand that he isnt intelligent at all. The dude is so fucked up half of time in public he slurs his speech. He famously does not read and he never lets anyone try to explain stuff to him without interrupting. He's like a real life Billy Madison.

Depends on how long you've been around but this website, back when it was more monolithic, loved Musk (as well as Julian Assange, ate a lot of downvotes on that one back in the day).

The tide started to turn with the whole submarine fiasco, and then really turned when he dipped hard right.

Lying about knowing what your Nazi tattoo is makes you a full on Nazi. He's also a drunkard who batters women, which you apparently also take zero issue with. No wonder this sub is 90% men.

Anyone who wants Republicans to lose the Senate supports him.

The problem with these kind of intellectually dishonest statements is that they can be made any direction. Anyone who opposes domestic violence must oppose Platner. Anyone who thinks Nazis are bad guys must oppose Platner.

There is, apparently, no limit whatsoever to what progs will overlook when it's their guy.

4

u/allbusiness512 Adam Smith Jun 24 '26

I think Platner fucking sucks.

I also think people should vote for him regardless because he answers to Democratic voters at the end of the day and not Republican ones.

If establishment Democrats wanted a better candidate maybe they should have put someone up better than an old ass out of touch governor.

3

u/TinyJalope Left-Out Left Jun 24 '26

He's also a drunkard who batters women

The woman who said this was a Heritage Foundation operative, which is one of the most dishonest and vile organizations in the country.

No wonder this sub is 90% men.

Susan Collins is responsible for getting Roe overturned due to her support of far-right freakshow judges. The fact that women are bleeding out in parking lots from Republican abortion bans is largely due to her.

The problem with these kind of intellectually dishonest statements is that they can be made any direction.

If Democrats lose Maine, they almost certainly will not win the Senate. Republicans continuing to control the Senate and being able to pack the courts with more fascist judges would be a complete catastrophe.

So yes, it doesn't matter that Platner is a dipshit; he is still far better than Collins, who supports a neo-nazi regime.

There is, apparently, no limit whatsoever to what progs will overlook when it's their guy.

He won over 70% of the vote. What happened to Vote Blue No Matter Who?

1

u/No_March_5371 YIMBY Jun 24 '26

The woman who said this was a Heritage Foundation operative, which is one of the most dishonest and vile organizations in the country.

Domestic violence doesn't count if the victim is conservative, got it.

Susan Collins is responsible for getting Roe overturned due to her support of far-right freakshow judges. The fact that women are bleeding out in parking lots from Republican abortion bans is largely due to her.

What does this have to do with ignoring domestic violence?

He won over 70% of the vote. What happened to Vote Blue No Matter Who?

I've never been a votebluenomatterwho cultist, fortunately. I have voted a straight blue ticket, to be clear, but there is, in fact, a line I'm not willing to cross. Candidate quality, to me, does not exist solely as a relative comparison, but also as the quality of the candidate on their own merit. Drunken, women battering Nazis are a step too far for me (and I've never even been to Maine, so this won't impact my straight blue ticket this November, and I'll be voting in competitive House and Senate races).

4

u/TinyJalope Left-Out Left Jun 24 '26

Domestic violence doesn't count if the victim is conservative, got it.

No, she just not a credible actor and the NYT article itself says they couldn't corroborate her claims.

What does this have to do with ignoring domestic violence?

The domestic violence claims are highly suspect, and Susan Collins also committed much worse than domestic violence.

I've never been a votebluenomatterwho cultist, fortunately.

So you're fine with a neo-nazi regime burning the country to the ground?

Drunken, women battering Nazis

You keep calling him a nazi, but his leaked Reddit post history does not support the idea that he actually a nazi...

At least Fetterman only usually breaks when it's symbolic in nature, where I can at least see some form of strategy that looks like it might be working according to his favorability numbers. Republicans seem to not hate him and Dems aren't going to not vote for him against a Republican.

Sinema and Manchin practically only broke when it meant making something not pass.
