Meta A note about AI-generated words

AI is fine to use for words, but please make sure that what it comes up with is, in fact, a neologism.

When asked to come up with new words, LLMs like ChatGPT tend to regurgitate existing albeit somewhat obscure words. You just need to do a quick web search. If it doesn't already exist, by all means post it. But if it does already exist, then it's off-topic for the sub.

Translates roughly to "after tomorrow" so you should probably just assume the definition, but for clarification it's the day after tomorrow, and it sounds cool. If you want something more formal this idea has been done three times on this subreddit already, I still like my idea better even if it does mix Greek and Latin roots

Pertransit

From the Latin 'to pass through skin', pertransit describes the process of passing through a cell membrane.

Forms and examples:
pertransit noun, the act of passing through
pertranse verb, to pass through
pertransic adjective, capable of passing through / permeable

Carrier proteins change shape to aid in pertransit.
Materials that require assistance to pertranse are water soluble.
Alcohol is pertransic without assistance.

Literally just because I'm sick of writing out 'to pass through cell membranes'.

Pankosmiokenantigenesollumisanthropoautopoiesis

(pan-KOZ-mee-oh-ken-an-tih-JEN-eh-sahl-oo-miz-an-THROW-poh-aw-toh-poy-EE-sis)

Pan-kosmio- (Παν-κοσμικός): Universal, spanning the entire fabric of the cosmos.

-ken(o)- (κενός): The empty void (the o drops because anti starts with a vowel).

-ant(i)- (ἀντί): Against / opposed to (the i drops because genesi starts with a vowel).

-genes- (γένεσις): Birth / creation (the i drops because ollymi starts with a vowel).

-ollu- (ὄλλυμι): Ruinous, fatal, and doomed to utter destruction.

-misanthropia (μισανθρωπία): The hatred, rejection, and absolute weariness of humanity.

-autopoiesis (αὐτοποίησις): The creation or making of oneself; self-generated purpose.

Literal Definition: The universal philosophical doctrine of being entirely opposed to birth, viewing human existence as a ruinous, fatal blight doomed to destruction within a completely vacant and indifferent cosmos, wherein any meaning or purpose must be entirely self-authored by the individual to endure the void.

Doofenclature

Doofenclature (n.) — a formulaic naming convention built around a recurring gimmick

Doofenclature
DOO-fen-klay-cher
/ˈduː.fənˌkleɪ.tʃər/

Definition:
A distinctive and formulaic system of naming things, especially one in which the same suffix, structure, or stylistic convention is repeatedly applied to everything a person creates.

Etymology:
A blend of Doofenshmirtz and nomenclature, inspired by Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz's habit in Phineas and Ferb of giving his inventions names ending in “-inator.”

The term can apply more generally to any comically predictable naming convention.

Examples:

"Our dev's doofenclature is appending ‘tsc-’ to the start of every service."

"At some point, ending every internal tool with ‘Hub’ stopped being a naming convention and became doofenclature."

"Shrink-inator, Freeze-inator, Ugly-inator—the man's doofenclature was remarkably consistent."

Syn: Pacifier, mitigator, anchor, moderator, diffuser

New Word Nightstallion — ("Nightmare”, But For The Happiest Dreams)

nightstallion (noun) — A dream of extraordinary emotional fulfillment whose ending, upon waking, is marked by the painful realization that the experience was not real.

I thought the term might have some terminological significance, because we have a word like "nightmare" to describe a terrifying kind of dream, and a word like "sonder" to describe a specific and relatable kind of realization, and yet we don't have a word to describe the kind of dream that you regret waking up from. Thoughts?

New Word The Dangerous Practice of the Sexiness Quota

sexiness quota: n. A term describing an unsettling phenomenon in the streaming industry wherein platforms and agencies compel content creators, particularly women, to leverage their physical allure to achieve stringent audience engagement and financial targets. Noncompliance with these metrics may result in contracted creators facing penalties such as loss of contracts, diminished visibility within algorithms, or outright bans, often rationalized as underperformance. This pressure necessitates that creators continually overextend themselves and compromise personal comfort to secure their professional stability.
