The light-up tambourines and and wrist bands turn on and off by switch but arrived with tabs cutting off their battery connection, which were pulled to make them ready to use. All still have very full batteries, and the wrist bands light up in reaction to noise!

Hi New Haven! I run a local events company called IRL. The goal of what I do is getting people off their phones and into a room together.

My newest event series is called Mingle Bingo. It’s like a singles night mixed with a happy hour.

When you arrive you get a bingo card, but instead of numbers, every square describes someone that could be in the room: someone who’s lived in another country, someone with a tattoo they regret, someone with a pet reptile.

You find them, say hello and cross off the square. The card is really just there to give you a reason to walk up to someone, because that’s the part that often feels impossible on a normal night. After that, its up to you. Talk to whoever you want, stay as long as you want and leave when you’re ready.

There are silly prizes for when you get a full row or a full card - the prizes are 100% NOT the point. :)

This Tuesday is for singles roughly in their 30s and 40s.

Hi! I was searching Etsy for a nice patterned throw blanket, and realized there are probably some great local artists who can help me out.

My general specs (for now— I will probably want more than one in the near future!)
- size: throw blanket (around 71”x51”, but totally flexible)
- materials: pref. alpaca/baby alpaca. Open to other materials (yak wool?), but I’m sensitive to lanolin, so partial lambswool is maybe my limit.
- use: as a lap blanket at my desk at work
- style: not one solid color or “micro pattern” (aka no herringbone). Would love a pattern (non-floral). Maybe a geometric pattern like this or this but doesn’t have to be exactly like those. Also open to superwide stripes (like, 6 stripes for the whole blanket). Not sure about colors yet, but I don’t want just black and white (but brown and cream might be ok).
- budget: under $50? If that’s unreasonable I can increase (I have no idea) and if it’s commissioned of course I will pay more, up to $85 probably?

Hi, I'm Jesse (she/her), and I run IRL - In Real Life, a local events company built around helping adults meet new people in ways that don’t involve walking into a room and cold introducing themselves to strangers. 😄

This Friday, I’m hosting a special IRL Social Salon at Lost in New Haven, and the whole night is a celebration of our amazing city.

If you’ve never been to Lost, it’s a private collection of New Haven history (the big black building on Hamilton Street). It holds everything from the former Christopher Columbus statue from Wooster Square and seats from the old Coliseum to original Toad’s Place and Cutler’s Records signs, the original Anchor bartop (which will be staffed for the night!), and pieces of local history I didn’t even know existed until I saw them there.

We’ll start the night in small, rotating groups with optional conversation prompts, so you’ll actually meet people instead of standing around hoping someone talks to you. Then there’s a scavenger hunt through the collection, which is a really fun way to discover just how much strange and interesting history New Haven has accumulated.

I’ve also spent the past few weeks collecting raffle prizes from local restaurants, shops and organizations. There are gift cards and experiences from Barcade, East Rock Brewing, ROLi, Michelina’s, Olives & Oil, Barracuda, pottery classes, city discount passports The Chaser from The Daily Nutmeg, and more than a dozen other New Haven businesses. Everyone will also leave with an IRL tote filled with offers, information on local museums, non-profits and other little ways to explore more of the city.

This is not a singles event (though I do those too!). It’s open to anyone 21+ who wants to meet more people, whether you’re new to New Haven or have lived here forever but would like to get outside your usual circle.

Most people come to IRL events alone, so you will not be the only person arriving without a built-in group, we've design the room to make you comfortable either way.

The historic Anchor Bar will be open inside the museum throughout the event!
