Local Formerly Imprisoned Artist Who Paints Bright Neon Paintings

A couple years ago I met a guy who was recently out of prison and was painting these wild paintings in neon and bright colors. He's latino, and carried his art around with him. Does anyone know who I'm talking about or who he is? I'm curious if he's still around Ogden.

If you see a tree like this growing on your property, please cut it down. This is the "tree of heaven" it is highly invasive and grows insanely fast. I've noticed they've been popping up everywhere lately and it's concerning. Inform anyone you know or anyone that may care.

Update on a volunteer mentoring opportunity in the area

Hey everyone! I posted here a couple of months ago about seeking volunteer mentors for USU’s 4-H Mentoring program in Weber and Davis Counties, and I wanted to give a quick update.

Since then, we’ve had some really successful events where we’ve been able to meet and recruit more kids into the program. It’s been awesome to see the interest from families.

The downside is that we now have quite a few kids ready for a mentor, and we need a few more people willing to step up and be that person for them.

Mentoring is pretty simple. You’re matched with one kid and spend about an hour a week together. Maybe you grab some food, go for a hike, play basketball or video games, work on homework, or just hang out and talk.

You don’t need any special experience, and you definitely don’t need to have life figured out. These kids mostly need someone who will show up, listen to them, and take an interest in their lives.

That’s really what has stuck with me while doing this. An hour might not feel like much to us, but having an adult who chooses to spend that hour with you every week can mean a lot to a kid.

So if you’ve thought about mentoring before or want to volunteer in new ways for your community, we could really use you right now. And if it’s not something you can do personally, sharing this with someone you think would make a good mentor would help too.

I am happy to answer any questions about what it’s like, the time commitment, the screening process, or anything else. Feel free to comment or message me!

Anyone know any places that do soldering repairs for a Nintendo switch

I tried expanding the storage on my son’s switch and it didn’t work. I replaced the micro sd card slot and still doesn’t work. I’m guessing something has to be soldered. Anyone know of any places or anyone know how to do it? Obviously I’ll pay

Hi! I’m looking for someone to train my disaster of a flesh prison. I’ve gone in and out of physical therapy my entire adult life and I think I just need someone to instruct me in person multiple times a week. I have a home gym set up.

Know anyone?

It’s on this plot of land behind Home Depot and near Sam Club. I couldn’t find any information on it. Anybody know what it is (or has anybody heard any rumors on what it could be?)?

Vegan Breakfast options near South Weber area? Closer than Lotus Cafe?

Got to town on Monday from NY, and loving it! Renting in South Weber. Anyone love breakfast spots closer to South Weber like maybe Unitah? Or Layton? Perfect if they have non-vegan and vegan options for breakfast. Thanks

Recommendation Toddler Friendly Gymnastic Classes

I’m searching for a gymnastics class for kids aged 3-6. I’m hoping for a well established business that teaches kids to have fun, not to prepare for the upcoming Olympics 😉.

Hike for MIL tomorrow rec

Hi! We want to do a 3 ish hour hike. MIL is very experienced. I’m fit, but afraid of heights. Any recs for something nice, cliff free, preferably near the canyon? Elevation gain is no issue, but ideally nothing too steep on the downhill. (Oh dear I need to find my poles)

Thanks yall! I’m new to the area.

Does anyone know anything about the history of the building on the corner of Madison and 23rd?

It looks like it could be an old church or meeting house.

Adult recreational volleyball?

Any casual adult volleyball going on in Ogden? Can be indoor or sand (prefer sand if possible). Something like a "we show up Tuesday nights and play casually" type vibe.

In need of a suit

I live in Ogden and my nephew in southern Cal is getting married in early October. I am his only surviving relative so I'll be going. It is going to be a posh affair with a cocktail party the evening before. Tuxes are optional, but a dark suit is required. I have not worn a suit in 40 years, and don't have one. I should buy one because I imagine I'll have occasions in the future. Any suggestions on where to go?

Local politics Flor Lopez is bad for Ogden and supports ICE

Ogden residents were told OPD does not participate in immigration enforcement beyond limited “scene safety.”

Then the bodycam came out.

The footage appears to show an Ogden Police officer coordinating with an ICE agent about how to gain access to a frightened resident who believed local police were there to help him.

That is not a minor distinction.

So @OgdenPolice, @OgdenCity and the Ogden City Council need to answer some very simple questions:
Was this officer’s conduct consistent with OPD policy?

Did the officer materially assist ICE in locating, accessing or apprehending this resident?

Was there a judicial warrant?

What legal authority supported the detention?

If OPD policy prohibits officers from participating in civil immigration enforcement, will this officer be investigated or disciplined?

And will Chief Sube finally be required to publicly explain why his representations to council members appear inconsistent with what the bodycam shows?

Councilman Ken Richey previously demanded video, dates, locations and evidence before accepting residents’ claims about OPD assisting ICE.

Here is the video. Body cam
Video 2, Stop site from a bystanders perspective
Transcript of the body cam footage

Now what?

Councilwoman Flor Lopez and every other council member defending or minimizing this conduct should answer another question:

Why are residents subjected to an extraordinary evidentiary standard while OPD apparently gets to investigate itself and have Chief Sube’s explanation repeated as fact?

That isn’t meaningful oversight.
It’s institutional deference.

Enough with the semantic games about “scene safety.”

Enough with secondhand legal analysis from the department whose conduct is being questioned.

Enough with demanding evidence and then moving the goalposts when residents produce it.

Do your jobs. Hold OPD accountable.
