Hopefully, Ink, Primetime, Possible Love and Wild Horse Nine are as good as they say

as an inkling and a member of Jack O nation we need a candle circle or something. I just hope it gets even an okayish reception. Last year I bet on the wrong horse (frankenstein) and it got shredded.

(yes I know I'm bo bo the clown for betting on Frankenstein)

u/sygrider I just like movies idk 1h ago

Well, it came back at the awards at least even if it wasn't groundbreaking

LETS BUCKING GO

u/DreamOfV Fjord 8h ago

God imagine if Bucking Fastard is actually an awards player and we get to watch every host or announcer carefully manuever through saying it until someone who didn’t do their homeworks just steamrolls “fucking bastard” on network TV

Finally!

It's so great that both Ink and WHN premiere within 2 days so we don't need to wait too much to find out their reception!

Still no NAZA on award expert but my early predictions before I adjust them as the days go by:

- Golden Lion - WH9

  • Grand Jury - Bucking Fastard
  • Special Jury - NAZA
  • Director - Lance Oppenheim (Primetime)
  • Actor - Rodney Hicks (Mr Nelson, Did You Kill People?)
  • Actress - Alba Rohrwacher (A Good Little Soldier)
  • Screenplay - A Bit of Light

Didn’t get most of the tickets I wanted and I’m leaving early but I still got Ink thursday and WH9 friday

What time are we expecting the Ink reactions around tomorrow?

3

u/julescr9 11h ago

I assume after the premiere, which it's at 7:00pm Venice time

2

u/Bulky-Scheme-9450 8h ago

Last year embargo lifted essentially when the screening started.

We are, as they say, so back

11

u/HonestIsReality 12h ago

Come on Wild Horse Nine. I’m rooting for you.

5

u/EaudeAgnes 10h ago

Oh Johnnie To as jury, great!

I'll probably sporadically check in on the thread from time to time but, again, manifesting a Golden Lion to Primetime just because that would be about as absurd as Joker winning it back in 2019:

u/OzyOzyOzyOzyOzyOzy6 2025 Oscar Race Veteran 4h ago

I mean, I think it'll be significantly better than Joker, so if that's the case and it wins the Golden Lion it won't be THAT absurd.

u/julescr9 12h ago

At what time does Ink screen tomorrow?

13

u/PointMan528491 Navarrette/Morton 11h ago

7:00pm Venice time, so 1:00pm Eastern/10:00am Pacific

Thanks!

only tangentially related but does anybody actually like campari? they’re a sponsor for the festival so figured i’d try a campari spritz instead of the usual aperol and it tasted like fucking paint thinner. i dont really have a problem with liquer in general either but this was disgusting lmao

I've been to Epcot many times having lived in Orlando pretty much my whole life and they have a place you can try soda from around the world for free. The reactions the Beverly gets out of people (which is similar in flavor profile to Campari) is hilarious.

I think it's fine. Just very very bitter. I will say when it comes to cocktails I do prefer the more balanced and complex ones (think Mai Tais, plain Daiquris, Dark 'n' Stormy, etc) over the overly sweet or creamy ones.

u/Standard_Housing6082 58m ago

Not really but if I’m at the Venice Film Festival then yes

2

u/nayapapaya 14m ago

It's awful. I was really expecting it to be sweet and it is so not.

u/Fun_Manufacturer1852 11h ago

Pattinson best actor por favor

2

u/Firm_Application_764 7h ago

But why? There are so many fine actors in the main competition

5

u/Fun_Manufacturer1852 7h ago

Just be cool to see him get that kind of recognition. And that Primetime is the film in competition im most interested in

6

u/tsnoj 10h ago

In regards to NAZA, where does Gyllenhaal (and the rest of the jury) stand on Palestine?

(I, of course, know Ben Hania is an open Palestine supporter, just asking about the rest)

14

u/-civictv 8h ago

Gyllenhaal was wishy washy on the subject back in the day and doesn't speak openly about her position since about 2014 after making The Honorable Woman. That said, her daughter Ramona was arrested during pro-Palestine protests in 2025, so maybe she's more amenable to Palestinian rights than she lets on.

11

u/DreamOfV Fjord 8h ago

Maggie Gyllenhaal as far as I can find (and as far as Google search results summaries can find, for whatever that is worth) has never spoken much of substance about the issue. I guess she made a general “I wish for peace in the middle east” statement many years ago.

I think the silence indicates at best that it isn’t a super important issue to her and she won’t push for a NAZA win automatically.

u/cosmogatsby 11h ago

The director of the worst movie of 2026 is the jury president.

17

u/Officialnoah The Odyssey 11h ago

TIL Maggie Gyllenhaal directed Melania

11

u/tmrtdc3 Sinners 11h ago

She's also somehow Uwe Boll. A woman of many faces.

1

u/cosmogatsby 10h ago

I was talking about The Bride!

-4

u/A_Howl_In_The_Night The Odyssey 10h ago

Jane Schoenbrun?

-2

u/Straight_Bed2763 11h ago

She didn't direct Thrash/Animal Farm/Is God Is

7

u/SerKurtWagner 11h ago

Not really sure how one of the best films of the year (Is God Is) ended up here…

5

u/Vstriker26 I predicted the Obsession with Obsession 10h ago

I think Is God Is is wildly overrated and has a godawful script… and is still a solid film. How is it even in the realm of Animal Farm

2

u/No-Condition8561 10h ago

Is God Is isn't even close to being the worst...
