I replaced a corsair 850w this month.

Rip 2018-2026. The age of 10 year warranty moaiplay has began.

Good to know…installed one earlier this year.

…that’s like $8/year, hell yeah!

2 years ago my Corsair 850 RMX started having issues. Voltages were fine but it would occasionally click off then a second later clicked back on. I did troubleshooting on every pc part and the psu was the last thing I checked. It was the psu. I even removed the psu and left it on a monitor with no load and sure enough it randomly clicks on and off. Could be 20min could be 2 days. Lucky 10 year warranty. It was about a 30 day turnaround time to get a replacement. I have a 20 year old evga psu thats still working great and voltages are still in range.

Heh, I just pulled out a 10 year old HX750 and it’s been running over a few days. They sure don’t make things like they used to.

I've had my RM850 since 2014 in 3 different builds and I'm replacing it this month, it's been a trooper but I've started having some minor issues I'm suspecting is power related.

Mine would casually pull 1000w+ for a few seconds at a time triggering the UPS. It froze about 3-4 times in 4 months at or near idle. Then twice in a day, and none since replacement. I did reseat the CPU but that likely only fixed the RAM slots and SATA ports that weren't working.

Power issues are nothing to play with. I gave a rig minus PSU, case, mouse and keyboard and my brother acted like a Generico 550 watt bronze was going to break him financially. So he went with an alibaba 450 watt ea-nasir that came with a case. Computer lasted maybe 1.5 years and died to a nephew who turned it on, went straight for fortnite install and didn't update a system that had been off for months. (this trigger windows ass mode where WinX uses 100% CPU and 100% disk until updates)

That's actually crazy, that is the trouble I'm having right now with my computer.
It freezes randomly whenever the GPU tries to shut down the displays and go into idle state, in both Windows and Linux. Here's hoping it's the same issue.

That's fucked about your brothers computer lmao 😭

For you it could be a bios power management setting or old bios. But since it's a "random" freeze my polymarket wager would be on psu. Those things seem to have the most "mileage" issues and the most "random" issues. Other things tend to fail in a much more obvious way.

When you replace the psu. If it's not too much trouble. I would reseat everything, drives, cpu(paste), ram, the i/o header for correct config. Run temp and load tests for hours. Sleep, resume, restart a few times. And let the rig run overnights for a week. This is what I did.

Yeah I've tried reflashing the same bios and an older one on top of defaulting and changing the bios power settings so I'm hoping this is it.

Thanks for the tips.

Hahaha holy fkn shit this gave me a genuine belly laugh 😂

17

u/Aw_geez_Rick 23h ago

Had this exact same thought... Couldn't remember exactly what I had because it's been so long and my PC has a shroud over the PSU but thankfully the box doesn't 😮‍💨

Safe... I hope 😂

u/ShortHandz 22h ago

The PSU in question is the older green labeled CX PSU's. I believe they got better with more recent iterations getting less... Explodey?

2

u/Schwarz_Furumoto 21h ago

Oh shit I think that's what I have on my build lol. At least the name is the same CX-750M but the box is yellow not green. Should I be scared?

3

u/ShortHandz 21h ago

Not a great PSU, but that sounds like a second or third gen model that was less prone to exploding.

1

u/Schwarz_Furumoto 21h ago

Thank god lol

2

u/Aw_geez_Rick 21h ago

Can confirm genuine IT term: "explodey" 👍🏻

3

u/pattyd14 22h ago

I just did the same thing, and have the same one as you lol

The Flames make your PC faster. Don't worry about it.

More blood for the blood god.

I used one for 12 years no problem, still works. The main issue is you never want to cheap out on a PSU because if it does fail it will kill the other more expensive components attached to it.

Yea same lmao

I also had a CX750M until I got my most RM1000x. I got tired of certain games causing instant power-offs. Playing HITMAN WOA with my RTX4070 and High settings and Nvidia Reflex + Boost seemed to be too much, but if I turned off the Boost, the CX750M would be able to handle it. Now the RM1000x handles everything.

If your part number is the older 75-002019 these are known to have issues.

If your model number is similar to CP-9020222 it is a revised version that is not affected by this issue.

1

u/Sarpool 19h ago

I looked at mine too.

But I have a TX750M

Had it since 2013.

Got damn I’m old.

1

u/SirAmicks 17h ago

I have a CX750 that’s over a decade old that’s still running great.

…not in my main PC, though.

1

u/Henshel 17h ago

Thank fucking god I just sold my old pc that had it. It's someone elses bomb now xD
