The average Redditor has about as much independent thought and creativity as an AI, so yes

And any edited picture is "ai" now. People forget we've had photoshop for decades before genAI.

There is undoubtedly some UE5 slop out there, though?

That's not how the word was ever meant to be used. "Game I dont like" or whatever nonsense. It's just a game engine a lot of devs use for very explainable reasons. It's not 'slop' to use the engine.

The slop in "UE5 slop" isn't inherent to UE5. It's slop created with the help of UE5.

I’m so tired of hearing the word slop. It’s been run into the fucking ground.

It's the buzzwords for normands. Everything they don't like is slop. I guess they don't like sloppy jobs, that's some gay shit.

UE5 is less appealing than the literal Shit out of my ass, so yeah I’d say this gets the pass

Bruh, not everything made with EU5 newest tech is slop. Just take a look at Satisfactory - it looks incredible and doesn’t have a slop to it. Witcher 4 - judging only from a trailer, so of course it might age like milk BUT it still looks incredible.

Why would you not use Expedition 33 as an example?

I didn’t play it nor see any of it

The engine inherently makes games look like shit. If the game looks like shit, I’m not spending hours looking at it to play it. I don’t agree with satisfactory looking good at all. I don’t care if they games are good or bad in someone else’s subjective opinion. Games can be good but sometimes I don’t enjoy playing them because of preferences.

Judging a game, let alone a modern game, by its trailer is arguably more idiotic than preordering digital goods.

E33 is made using UE5 btw

And it's completely carried by the art itself being beautiful. Shadows, foliage and effects look noisy and terrible, and the performance is kinda bad.

Never played it

How else would one write complainslop?

u/Burpmeister 10h ago

Studios popping champagne over gamers blaming the game engine instead of their cost-cutting + lazyness.

Rockstar, Ubisoft, Fromsoft etc. I will always respect the developers who use their own in-house engines instead of defaulting to Unreal. Even Microsoft and CDPR switched to UE5 with the new Halo and Witcher 4.

Gears of War has always been made on Unreal Engine (hell, I think it was first made as a collab between Epic and MS to show off UE on the Xbox 360)

Right, my bad.

Halo had a very successful, high fidelity, and performant UE5 release. It really is up to the devs.

Also UE5 has changed quite a bit since launch. There is a lot more tech now that devs can use to have their game run and look better as well as devs just getting better at the engine.

Fromsoft

The fact that Elden Ring leaves such an unbelievably strong impression in spite of its aging tech is a testament to their sheer artistry, but it only begs the question of just how much more they could do if they used modern models, materials and lighting. Even Bloodborne had subpar tech for its time, yet by some black magic fuckery, it is one of the most striking games for the PS4, shining through the atrocious aliasing, frame pacing and "lighting".

Sekiro is similar as well. They have an incredible sense of art direction.

This is your reminder to put your phone down and go outside for a bit today. You've been terminally online.
