The best part is how they control the media while simultaneously getting their base to believe it’s actually the democrats that control the media.

Some of it by pointing out that while Hollywood/ big Entertainment may still have a more left leaning leadership, pretty much every local news station, newspaper, large news conglomerate is under conservative control blasting propaganda 24/7.

That's too simple of a narrative and if they needed unrest to do... Whatever it is you think that they can't do now but could do then, they'd just manufacture unrest.

They definitely want us angry.

But they want that anger to be split.

A divided populace doesn't overcome an oppressor.

I think of this every time I see a comment helpfully reminding everyone that only 1/3 voted Republican while another 1/3 didn't vote at all.

It's easy to figure out who benefits if the progressive and moderate wings of the Democratic party are angry at each other enough to sit an election out if their respective chosen candidate in the primary doesn't win.

McConnell did actively disregard the Constitution more, though. Maybe cause Gingrich wasn’t in the Senate and didn’t get the chance? Who knows I guess.

But the 84 year old senator of 40+ years goes completely nonverbal at multiple press conferences, then a month later collapses on the floor untouched, and we hear nothing about him for 6 months until he’s hospitalized for a stroke.

It's even worse than that. The New York Times reports jobs numbers very different depending on who is in power.

When it's Trump, it's "added 57,000 jobs, way below expected", but 'hiring continues at a steady pace' in the headline. Biden has 206,000 jobs in June, exceeding forecasts, but 'signs of concern emerge'.

Our news media is fucked by Billionaires, and we should do something about that.

Not that I disagree with your overall point, though. McConnell is the chairman of three important subcommittees, including the Department of Defense and Rules and Administration subcommittees.

That's not it, Faux News doesn't need facts to do a report. Nor does CNN. They will talk about anything they are allowed to, but they're not allowed to cover the regime negatively. Their boss is making a ton of "money" off Trump and Republicans, so they will be protected as much as they can be without losing the viewers to other news that covers more stuff.

To be fair, that's sorta what separates tabloids from major newspapers, their willingness to take wild unverified reports and roll with them and get them published. But for something like "unconfirmed reports about a dead senator" I can see why bigger stations would want to wait until it's confirmed. Not that I don't think major agencies aren't terrible in other ways and culpable in a large way for how things ended up, but still.

It's honestly a more interesting problem than people on reddit would like to believe. The heart of it is that the modern democrat isn't tied to any individual policy, but rather the underlying ethos. Meanwhile, the actual politicians are, you know, politicians. Compromises and such. That is, after all, how you get into power.

But to a lot of democrats, if you are against any one of the manifold issues which compose the ethos, you are essentially against all of it. A political pragmatist on Gaza? You're not a real democrat. You're a pragmatist about LGBT issues or gun control? Not a real democrat. Claim to be a centrist? Fascist in disguise. Hence the democrats tried to basically sweep Gaza under the rug and not address it at all, but that failed. Hence, liberals either not voting or voting for trump to 'teach them a lesson'.

If you perceive Harris as not a true democrat because of her pragmatic perspective on gaza, then punishing her isn't stupid and suicidal, because she isn't on your side to begin with.

The question is, what is that ethos? It's not necessarily a BAD ethos, but it seems to be becoming all-encompassing. I increasingly wonder if it isn't a sort of a human response to the decline of religion. Which is to say, humans long relied on religion as a trust-maintaining infrastructure. This new dynamic serves a similar role, only tied into things like scientism, so you can no longer make metaphysical claims like saving the soul but not the body.

But at the same time...we now live in a world where action and consequence are meaningfully divorced. What you do today won't bite until tomorrow, so you can with some legitimacy try to have it all. Historically, you do that, hubris bites you immediately. We've pushed that bite further and further away until action and consequence seem completely separated, and once that happens, it becomes completely irrational to compromise.

Even today, many of these people are still like, "Well, sure Trump won, but we'll win next time and fix everything."

I have recently re-entered the dating pool, so I'm meeting new people for the first time in a long time. I have found that lots of people are completely unengaged in any amount of political news. Like not even a sliver of what a bunch of us think is very important news gets through to them. It's not that they see what's happening and don't care; it's that they don't even care to learn what's going on in the world around them. I don't know if that's better or worse, but it's been eye opening.

2/3 of voters* are idiots, the population who can't vote isn't able to judge one way or the other based on a vote they couldn't take part in... so accounting for felons, non-citizens, and kids it's probably worse than that (if we assume a perfectly even 50/50 split of those ineligible Americans then 2/3 becomes 3/5, by my napkin math).
