Show-and-Tell E-Ink Canvas

Proudly presenting my e-ink based, battery powered canvas. It supports remote control using local home network and MQTT protocol. It can draw random jokes, ai generated images or any image url.

Hi Competitive-Piece509, your post has been reported for violation of the community rules.† If too many reports are received your post will be removed.

  • Please, no pictures of unused Pis - do a project!
  • Remember that there's a tell part to Show-and-Tell! Don't post pictures of a Pi that don't clearly demonstrate what it's doing or post pictures without any details about your project. You need let people know what it is, what it does, how you made it, and also answer questions people may have.
  • Are you looking for ideas? There's a huge list right here!
  • Boot problems, network problems, power problems, stability problems, or your monitor isn't working must be handled in the stickied helpdesk thread.
  • Did you check the FAQ before asking?
  • Do you have networking problems or you're trying to make your Pi into a router, bridge, or WiFi AP? Try r/HomeNetworking or r/LinuxQuestions

If you have already done research, make sure you explain what research you've done and why you didn't like the answers you found so that others don't waste time following those same paths.
  • Specific Questions Only
We don't permit questions regarding how to get started with your project/idea; what you should do with your Pi; what's the best, easiest, or cheapest way; what colors would look nice (aesthetics); what an item is called; what software to run; if a project is possible; if anyone has a link/tutorial/guide; or if anyone has done a similar project. This is not a full list of exclusions.

Really cool, do you documented on github the construction process?

Thanks. I have not, but I will let you know when I do it when I have time. It is really simple.

Please do! I was just talking to my wife about something like this for our fridge door, but the project is just far enough out of my 'zone of competency' that I have no idea where to start.

Will do :) By the way if you are not into building it, just want the final product, there are pre-built ones that work with NFC on AliExpress.

LOL I would have never thought I would see such a statement. Very well executed. I don't think mods here speak Turkish.

What sort of app are you using to transfer files? I have mine setup to automatically download the contents of a folder on my laptop via ftp, but your way looks nicer.

There is no file transfer actually, I only use a MQTT app on my phone to send messages to Raspberry Pi. Local files are pre-shared, remote images are downloaded.

So it's sort of like an ssh app but using a different protocol?

Yes and it is very common for IoT devices.

Adamlar ürünün bana ait olmadığını söylediler ve ispat etmeme rağmen ilgilenmediler, son cevapları da biraz dalga geçer gibiydi. Bu 3. postum anca gönderebildim. Aslında komiklik olsun diye de yaptım biraz. Çok mu acımasız olmuş? 😄

Detaylı nasıl yapılır açıklama postu/videosu var mı? Benim de canım sıkıldı Raspberry pi 'ye başlamak istiyorum. Eline koluna sağlık çok güzel olmuş bu arada.

Merhaba, GitHub’a müsait olduğumda detaylı bir rehber koyacağım. Haber veririm. Teşekkürler :)

Can you get it to post new reddit titles from your account?

u/Competitive-Piece509 Mar 04 '24

Unfortunately Reddit API is expensive. I would have done something similar but I gave up when I saw the prices.

you should sell this without telling people it's digital and change it very subtly over time.

u/Competitive-Piece509 Mar 04 '24

Yeah it would be funny but it requires both devices to connect the same WiFi.

Nice project! A week ago a project launched on Kickstarter (Bloomin8). It is a e-ink canvas (charge once, last for years. Cord-Free | iOS & Android | Local Home Assistant Integration). Maybe nice for you to try out? There are different sizes, 7 inch., 13 inch. and 28.5(!) inch. All using full-color Spectre 6 technology. The 28.5 inch. version is from Sharp (brand). https://arpobot.kckb.me/8e225af1

Maybe a nice new project? ;-)
