Powered Wheelchair Users of Scarborough…. Just how hard is it to get around?

I normally bring my rollator walker on holiday because my husband would struggle pushing my manual chair around all week and also wouldn’t be able to push the suitcases (we come by train, no car). However I’ve recently been able to purchase a powered wheelchair and he thinks it’ll be best for me to use that for our holiday rather than struggling with my walker.

What’s holding me back is I know Scarborough isn’t the most even and smooth in places. I also know there will be shops I can’t go into that I could with my walker because of steps in the entrance. So I want to hear from other power chair users who can tell me what it’s really like. Thank you xx

Uber

Seems to be a lot of Ubers floating around (and a couple of other ride apps as well)

Anybody used one? Presumably the drivers are glued to their sat-navs?

Staying in Scarborough for a few days, any showers available?

All about that van life, but our bonnie T25 doesn't have a shower. Most places we go have some sort of shower facility available near by (Whitby etc.) but Scarborough seems to have a lack of public showers (aside from the cold one on the beach). Anyone got any ideas?

Bridlington Animal Park

I know it is not Scarborough exactly, but I have two free tickets for entry into Bridlington Animal Park if anyone would want them. I can see on Google Maps it's a 35 min drive.

I adopted a Zebra as a gift, and as part of the package I got these tickets; however, I live in London, so it's too far for us.

If anyone wants them, message me directly, and I'll pop them in the post.

EDIT: they’ve been claimed

Green gables hotel- how is it still operating?

I booked a three day stay based off photos on hotels.com that presented the hotel as clean, simple but pretty standard.

What we found was a sprawling derelict building with many locked rooms that used to be communal areas for the guests, mould and damp that triggered my mould allergy, examples of extreme uncleanliness including an abundance of dead insects on windowsills, mouldy ceiling tiles, discarded bread crusts littering the floor of the corridor, dodgy electrics, a closed down swimming pool filled with stagnant water that has apparently been that way for years rather than being appropriately drained and covered, pigeons nesting in upstairs storage rooms, the list goes on.

One night we were disturbed by an irate guest screaming about wanting their money back. There seem to be only a handful of staff and probably they are not well paid nor well equipped to take on the herculean task of renovating the place, but some basic sense of hospitality should surely compel them to vaccuum the hallways and clean up the flies to make the best they can of this crumbling place?

If it was 25 quid a night I wouldnt mind. But when people pay up to 100 for a weekend night one expects more and is justifiably outraged at not getting value for money.

Who is profiting off this place? Who owns it and why do the relevent authorities and regulatory bodies allow it to continue operating when it clearly violates health and safety standards and could even be considered to be committing fraud against it's customers for false advertising. Some of the images on booking websites even feature trendy furniture that seems to have been added after by AI. The umbrella and seating on the balcony for example did not exist and does not look real in the image

Have you stayed there and can you tell me any information?

Is there a singing ghost legend at Victorian Tranway?

Staying at the Grand with my sister and her kids for 2 week and her older kids like to go sit on the benches by the tramway overlooking the beach but they been saying at night they say they hear a lady singing but theirs nobody near??

I put it down to kids being kids but went past that way last night after Tranway were closed and swear down I heard it too! Couldn’t see a soul but definitely heard a woman singing?!?! Near shat myself! 🤣 🤣 is their a local legend about it? I love a good ghost story so thought I’d ask 👻 👻

Staying In Scarborough

Hi,

Wanting to do a little trip around the Yorkshire coast next year, me, the Mrs & our 3 year old.

Wanting to take in - Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay & Whitby.

How easy is it to just walk into a guest house/B&B & get a room, I remember walking round & just seeing guest houses with “vacancy” or “no vacancy” signs.

Possible? Or best to book everything in advance?

Mecca Bingo could become a theatre

The cake place on Albermarle Crescent has posted on Facebook news about Mecca Bingo saying young man is looking at bringing the building back to being a theatre.

He's having an open day on the Saturday 19th September when you can ask questions, give opinions and have a look round (the fact he's got access makes me think things are already moving in a positive direction!)

I don't know how many seats it could take, probably nowhere near the capacity the Futurist (grrrrr...) had, but if it can take some of the shows that can't be held elsewhere (and lets face it, the main hall at the Spa is a dance hall, and not a theatre, and upstairs is freezing most of the time!)

And apparently, it's even got an orchestra pit, which opens up even more options.

Feeling quite optimistic about this.

On Holiday, what's great and what's to be avoided?

As per the Title. I will be in Scarborough for the first time in October with the family and wondered what would be recommended and what to avoid.

I'm thinking things like, the best Chippy (we are from the south and I keep telling the kids that the best chip shops are in the north and use dripping!)

Also best pub for food and good beer (real ale and so on) or just a nice family pub.

Anyway thankyou in advance to any replies. Would love to hear peoples thoughts.

Nice shopping areas?

Hello

I will be visiting this monday for the first time.

I would love to buy things for my parents who are in their 50s.

Do you know which part of Scarborough I could go?

Thanks

Long shot zone 3L permit question

Hi everyone.

We've just arrived for our week's holiday. However we have been horribly mislead by the apartment owner. We were lead to believe we would be given a week's permit for on street parking, however it turns out all that has been left for us is a 3 hour wheel clock.

We are staying in zone 3L. I know this is a long shot but does anyone have any permits for this area we could use/borrow/purchase?

Needless to say the owner is basically saying we "misunderstood" what they wrote in their advertisement and have since gone back and changed it online. Luckily for me I took screenshots first.

We appreciate any help or advice anyone can offer. We don't want to seem pushy or entitled, we would just like to be able to park outside of where we are stopping.

Thanks to everyone who reads this far.
