Meetup SFSU Events

Hi everyone,

Gator Experience is a great place for student organizations to post events, as well as Instagrams. A reminder that formal student organizations and just people looking to make friends are free to post on this subreddit (I recommend making an individual post rather than commenting down below though).

Gator Experience: https://sfsu.campuslabs.com/engage/events

I was wondering though, are there any specific events or themes of events you would want this subreddit to do? I can apply for funding, but to be honest, I do not think I will be approved so lower cost events are preferable.

SF affordable housing?

Hey, just curious about affordable housing in SF. What do you need to have to qualify? I currently live at home and graduate in the spring but want to move back to the city in June if I can, however I can’t afford rent because I work a retail job part time.

Because I am a student and work a retail job, I qualify for CALFRESH and things like that, is it a similar process in terms of qualifications? Please help lol

Thank you!

Walking requirements

Hello, I’m a senior here and I’m on track to graduate this upcoming spring. I’m currently thinking about working a bit which would put me behind 1-2 classes right before summer/new fall session.

I’ve heard of some ppl walking the stage but still coming back to take more classes, how can I do that?

What the requirements or what are the max amount of credits leftover you can hit before you do qualify?

Greek Life

hey. soo a little background: i am 25F transfer student majoring in psych and probably will minor in BECA or film. going to a CC most of college career and coming to a 4 year has been a little bit of a cultural shock. i really wanna make the most of my time in college. i want to network, make friends, etc. even though i am a commuter as well.

Getting a little desperate and wanna put myself out there so i have been looking into the greek life at SFSU and wanna know what’s it like. sounds like a cool community and great way to make friends.

I guess what i want to know is how much time commitment is there? I heard theres fees? is it toxic? :/ will i even get selected even tho i am on the older side to some people?? any insight will help

Should I stay at SFSU?

Hello! I just recently transferred to SFSU and its my first semester as a junior. My major is Business with a concentration in Information Systems. The main reason I transferred here because it was the cheapest option for me as I have some family I can stay with. I heard this school has an alright business department but not the best. Also, I mainly hear the cons about the school because of budget cuts and the lack of school spirit. It makes me a bit insecure ngl.

My other considerations were SJSU and CSULB but couldn't find housing. I also have learning disabilities so I can struggle to manage a job while going to school. SJSU is also an hour and a half away from my old home but I still picked SFSU because its still a shorter commute from my old home.

So far, SFSU is pretty alright, even though its the first week. I like my professors and they seem pretty knowledgeable about their field. I have interest in making connections and building my network.

What do you guys think? Should I consider transferring somewhere else or I should just stay? I'm also in a position where I'm not in a rush to graduate as my parents are kind. Any insights about the school are welcomed. Thank you for reading!

Gatorpass/ bay pass not working??

I was able to use the gatorpass starting Monday , and even used it this morning. But on my way back home the baypass disappeared from my clipper card app and I had to pay the rest. It was rlly weird. I called clipper card customer service and the school and they both lowkey didn’t know what was going on. Anyone else have this problem today?

PSA West Portal Starbucks - man in 30s, Marine Corps pants part of uniform

UPDATE:
I was just talking to a friend about the incident, and they were talking about a similar incident that happened to them that same morning. Turns out, it's the same guy, and he is going coffee shop to coffee shop!

He was first spotted at Philz in Financial District as soon as they opened (5 am), then made his way over to West Portal Starbucks at 6:30 am. Probably took the M line.

He did not mention offing himself or any vulgar remarks to them, but mentioned wanting to go to rehab. The only stories that stay the same include:
- having a high school brother he's estranged from
- having a lot of money
- asking if we like Katseye
- REALLY, REALLY interested in our ages

Please beware!

Original post:
I want to share an uncomfortable interaction I had this morning in case other women have encountered this person or have a similar experience.

I was at the Starbucks in West Portal 6:30–7:30 AM doing a quiz when a man approached me and told me he was going to off himself. I take statements like that seriously, so I immediately asked if he needed someone to talk to.

Unfortunately, the conversation quickly became extremely vulgar and eventually turned toward the subject of women being r*ed. I started looking around the store for an employee or someone who could help because I felt completely caught off guard and couldn't read him.

He also repeatedly commented on how "huge" our age gap was, asked me a lot of stuff about being asian, and kept saying things like "guys must love me."

I f turned in my quiz, then went to the employees to let them know what had happened. By that point, he had already left.

I genuinely don't know what his intentions were, and I'm not trying to accuse him of something I can't prove, but I want to warn others and hopefully get this guy the help he needs.

Sororities

Hi everyone, I am interested in joining a sorority on campus, but I don't know the first thing about them. Can anyone who has joined one share their experience, from the recruitment to the bid process to what's expected of you when you join? Any advice or anything you wish you knew before joining? Are certain sororities better than others? Sorry if it's a dumb question but does hazing happen here lol?

Thank you!
