Goo is my favourite SY album.
I wrote to the band Fan Club and the Fan Club sent me this Goo Demos CD.
I know I’m not the only fan having this and all tracks I think have been remastered on Goo Deluxe, which I don’t have.
But I always wonder why they put Cher on the cover of the Demos CD ? 😅
Okay Cher was one of his girlfriend, before coming out as gay.
SY was also signed to David Geffen Company and released Goo.
Which other stories you guys can share ?

I became a fan of SY in the early 2000s, and if you asked me on June 8th 2009 what my favorite SY song was, I'd have probably said the Empty Page since thats what got me hooked on the. But if you'd come back to me the very next day after I bought The Eternal, it would have changed to Antenna. Still to this day, Antenna is my favorite SY track. It's just so incredible.

he just looks kind of aged. maybe this is just me but its been a long time since their albums came out (daydream nation, bad moon rising, evil, etc.) maybe thurston and the gang should retire on a high note. i love this band but the last couple of albums have been not so good i think (goo, dirty, etc.) anyone else thinking this?

Anyone know more about this Australian 1992 Sonic Youth Dirty long sleeve?

I've owned this shirt since the early 1990s and recently started researching it. It's a Top Heavy XL, made in Australia, and I've found archival photos showing this exact long-sleeve design included with the Australian 1992 Dirty Box, which was limited to 200 copies.

I received mine at the time while working in the music industry in the US, but I can't confirm that my particular shirt came out of one of the box sets as I no longer have any additional items from it. I'm trying to learn whether additional examples were distributed separately in Australia, or whether anyone remembers seeing these for sale or as promo items around 1992–93. Would love to hear from anyone who remembers this shirt or has another example.

I was visiting a friend at Hampshire College in fall of 1986 and he was like "some band called Sonic Youth is playing in the dining hall, we could go to that" but neither of us knew them and so ended up just hanging out.

Much regret a few months later. Still bothers me from time to time.

I was in a random antique store in PA when I found this 7 inch single for a band called Even Worse. Obviously the giant “Thurston Moore” writing caught my eye. Flipping it over I can see that Thurston is credited on one of the songs and it looks like he signed the back with the message “Kill Rabid” which is another member of the band. Was wondering if anyone has more information about this?

What do you guys think of Sonic Youth covering Superstar ? I do not like it.

What was following Sonic Youth like in the late 90’s?

I’m a newer fan, and I’m wondering what was like to be a fan in the late 90’s, where it would’ve been after their commercial peak with Goo, Lollapalooza, etc., and before Jim O’Rourke joined.

From what I can tell, Sonic Youth never reached a level of popularity where they could be considered mainstream, and there would’ve been so many bands that came and went during Sonic Youth’s era.

Anyone know what’s up with merch in the US? I wanted to order the Green Alien Dirty shirt, and both the regular and Kung Fu sites are down and have been for days. I suppose I could order from Bingo, but shipping is so much as it’s overseas:

Know this seems irrelevant at first glance. Feel free to remove if this isn’t enough, but this show was curated back in 1999 by Thurston Moore & Byron Coley. They curated the entire month of shows at Tonic in October of ‘99 to celebrate Loren Connor’s 50th birthday.

If anyone was back in NY in ‘99 and attended any of these shows, would love to hear about your experiences.

Hey y’all! I’m making my way through Sonic Youths Discography. I’ve made my way through their first EP to the Master-Dik EP and needless to say they are amazing.

I love the no-wave krautrock riffs that make me feel like I’m in a trance. And Kim Gordon just speaks to me in a way that I can’t explain.

I’m aware that Daydream Nation is an iconic record and I’m excited to get into it next and seeing them evolve more.

Anyhow does anyone have any recommendations for deep cuts or live performances from this period that I might not come across on Apple Music or by reading on Wikipedia?
