This is a follow up to my previous post.

https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/comments/1vup8tx/xperia_1_v_xqdq62_us_version_network_issues_in/

After trying various combinations with flashing EU modem files, nothing worked in the end. Phone is reset to default using Xperia Companion.

If anyone is interested to buy, message me here on Reddit. We can agree on a fair price. I was thinking of using escrow.com, but if you have any other site in mind, please do tell me.

Pics of the phone itself are attached in this post.

HELP How to revive or replace my Sony Xperia in the UK

I've had the Xperia 5 II for about 5 years. It's showing some signs of age, such as occasionally not charging when plugged in (even though the light and symbol says it is) or being unable to access settings or change internet connectivity unless I restart.

My first question is has anybody else encountered these problems and might it be possible to resolve them?

But really I need to start looking at a new phone. I've been putting it off because I'm in the UK and no provider is stocking Sony anymore, but I've only ever used Sony and I don't like change. I like the look and feel of it and I need my headphone jack.

My second question is what's the best method to actually obtain a Sony in the UK these days? And make sure it still works here?

And final question: why oh why oh why isn't everyone more up in arms about Sony disappearing from the market?!

I've owned more Sony phones than the ones shown here, unfortunately all the boxes for the ones I owned when I was a teenager have been lost over time. The Xperia M and Xperia 10 Mrk Vi were gifts for my mom, I just kept the boxes. Lol

Question Should I get the 10 VIII?

Thinking about getting it as a secondary phone, how much slower is it compared to the 1 VIII? I read the reviews and people were angry they didn't upgrade the chip, but I never had a series 10 device before so got nothing to compare it to.

Question 1m8 (XQ-GE74) XperiFirm CID

Hi all, I bought the 1 VIII from Swiftronics and am trying to root to enable 5G on T-Mobile but XperiFirm is showing 3 different CIDs. How do I find which CID to use for my particular model? I dialed  *#*#7378423#*#\* to access the service menu but I'm not seeing any numbers that match the 3 in xperifirm. thanks in advance

Edit: I never found numbers matching what XperiFirm was showing but I read my box and it said Taiwan in Chinese characters so I went with that. I have successfully rooted and am now working on getting 5G

Edit2: I HAVE 5G ON T-MOBILE!

Question Upgrading from samsung s9

Hi, my samsung s9 I bought over four years ago is beginning to fall apart - notably all 3 of the physical buttons (volume, power, bixby) have fallen out. So overall I figured its time to invest in something new. £250 is the budget so presumably a refurbished phone. It already kind of pains me to spend that much but if its a long time im planning to keep it oh well.

Heres what I do care about

-3.5mm headphone jack

-Removable storage for microsd and a physical sim

-Decent battery

-I'd like to try modding a new OS/ROM at some point so nothing severely locked down which I assume rules stuff like Iphones out.

-general durability and waterproofing would be nice.

-I have one game in mind I'd like to play with the minimum and recommended specs listed below.

-Ideally not get too hot but understandable if it does

-if possible, keeping a similar size and weight would be nice but isnt neccesarily required. Weight moreso.

(S9 is 68.7 x 147.7 x 8.5mm at 163g)

-Usb C charging cable

Minimum

-Operating System: Android 8.0 or Later

CPU:Snapdragon 835 / Kirin 810 / Dimensity 700 / Exynos 9810 or Higher

Memory: 6 GB or Higher

Available Storage Space: 30 GB or Higher

Recommended

Operating System: Android 13.0 or Later

CPU:Snapdragon 8 Gen 1/ Kirin 9000E 5G / Dimensity 9000 / Exynos 1080 or Higher

Memory: 8 GB or Higher

Available Storage Space: 30 GB or Higher

Things I do not care about

-Camera quality

-Incredibly high specs and 900fps ultrahigh gaming just 60fps is fine.

-Basically any Ai features or proprietary stuff like samsungs fitness app or whatever

I asked a few friends and what was recommended to me was the Sony Xpeira 5 IV or Xpeira 5 V if I can get it. Apparently 5 IV can sometimes run hot. Anyway I'm not too experienced in phones so i'm asking here too. Thanks.

Im posting here because I was recommended the Xpeira. However I looked it up and apparently you can get a glaring line issue or something? How common is this and do you guys have any recommendations? Thanks.

Xperia 1 VII Bluetooth Audio Quality Loss

Hi!

My VII began to reduce the bitrate of Bluetooth Audio randomly, without having any reason to. This seems only to happen on AAC, tested with AirPods Pro 3 and some bluetooth receiver. Even if the phone is literally on my head, quality drops extremely every few minutes, so much that the compression artefacts are nearly hurting.

What can I do against that? I remember that LDAC has a setting to prioritise quality over stability, can I force it to just keep the 256kbits AAC?

Discussion Xperia 10V and LineageOS

Hey guys, my mom currently has a Xperia 10V (xq-dc54) and slowly begins hating the phone, especially after she tested my Pixel for a bit. The biggest problem is that she thinks the phone is slow, and i saw its indeed slow. She does think of upgrading to a pixel 9 pro like me but she says its a lot of money, which it is.

I offered to install Lineageos on her xperia (already explained what it is and how it works)

People with a 10V and LineageOS, how does it run comparing to the stock firmware? What does work and what doesnt work?

I am aware of play integrity etc, and am willing to patch where needed. She has 2 dutch banking apps and a government app, called DigiD, that might use play integrity.

Xperia 1 IV My review using the Xperia 1 IV

Post image
134 Upvotes

It's been a week so far and I bought it used in mint condition without a single scratch. I set all the apps to restricted battery use and the phone is all the time cool and battery is way better I recommend you do that to ANY phone.

Starting with the pros:

Build quality: lightweight, very sleek beautiful simple design and feels nice to the hand

Speaker, microphone and haptics: speaker is really mid nothing wow, haptics are surprisingly very good. Mic is also good

Screen: very accurate and beautiful colors, not too vivid or washed out. The 4k display is so cool when watching movies or using the camera. The ratio is different and tbh I love it, it makes the phone look unique and movies look better. It's comfortable watching content on it and holding it.

Connectivity, 5g, calls, data wifi ect: I had zero issues so far and it never switched to 4g or E even when being deep in woods or somewhere underground.

Performance and OS: Very fast and smooth experience, stable. The OS is so similar to Google pixel which makes me familiar with the whole UI and os whatever. It's simple and easy to use without much hassle and useless features like a Samsung.

Cameras: This is the part where it MOST surprised me. The cameras are absolutely gorgeous despite being a 4 year old flagship. Compared to my pixel 9 pro the videos and pictures look better and no I'm not d1ckriding Sony the images footage is absolutely gorgeous, the dynamic range, the colors are so accurate and true to life, good detail and no fake bullshit ai enchantment or the shitty processed look. Absolutely adore the way it captures footage. Selfies are also really good and I love the soft skin effect, reminds me of the old cybershot I had :)

Battery life: I wouldn't say it's wow amazing but not bad either, a very solid 7/10. Gets the job done, will 2 charges a day for my use case since I'm always on the run and being busy. Sometimes it gets me throughout the day depending on the use and my use is lots of gps, music, movies, some scrolling, calls texts and camera.

Headphone jack and SD card: fucking finally a proper flagship with all the useful features. I love Sony for keeping them.

Now for the cons:

Availability: it genuinely sucks having to hunt down these phones and not being able to go to any store and finding xperia's like u used to... I hardly found this at 300 euros and I consider myself hella lucky since in my country Sony phones basically are extinct. Same goes for repairs, cases accessories ect.

Software support: absolute ass. Like wtf? When this phone came out it was more expensive than an iphone pro max and it's tapped out at android 14? Thats so lame for a flagship. Not only Sony phones aren't being sold at stores anymore, they are more pricy than an ultra and a pro max, you want to keep it around AND it has a very short software support and the security patches were tapped out until 2025. Crazy.

That's the only cons in my personal experience. I love this phone it's a fucking beast despite it's age, and no it doesn't overheat or even get hot. Would I call it luck? Honestly idk, I'm just scared of anything happening to it because Sony phones don't exist in my country nor repairs.

Would I recommend you buying this? If you don't mind it being stuck at android 14 forever, sure. I didn't regret my purchase and my switch from pixel 9 pro. In most areas it's an upgrade.

Question Should I buy the Japanese version of the 1 VIII (XQ-GE44)? How will it affect NFC and 5G/4G connectivity?

I'm tempted to buy the XQ-GE44 (SIM unlocked) because of the unique 512GB with 16GB RAM configuration, but I'm afraid the missing 5G/4G bands will affect my daily QOL and when traveling abroad. IIUC it seems to support the main bands in my country.

I'd rather avoid rooting/flashing the device.

I'm not sure how it'll affect when working/traveling in Europe, and the Americas.

I've also seen the XQ-GE74 in Zenmarket for a good price, but I'm not sure how much better that is. I can only get the XQ-GE54 via expensive resellers for now.

Question 5iv green line display replacement options+query

So, my friends phone is a the aforementioned 5IV and tbh still a great daily driver, does all things necessary and he doesn't want to upgrade. Plus, I had installed LOS for him, so it's up-to-date and secure. The issue, green lines and quite a few now.
Costs are high in general life, so I've been searching the best value way to replace his display.
My theory. Can the Japanese version SOG-009, be used as a display donor?
I can get it much cheaper than a oem "new" oled display. My assumption would be that they're the same and the difference being the mainboard set for each region?
In theory, I could also simply swap the mainboards, whichever is the easiest and efficient.
Plus he'll have a spare battery and other parts, not that I'd want to keep repairing lol.
The risk though of course, green lines could appear on this display too.
Anyway, any insights and is this doable? Thanks

Xperia 10 IV Memory swap?

I've got a 10 IV and am wondering: is it possible to turn on the memory swap on this thing? I tried googling, but neither google or duckduckgo gave me anything not braindead. 6gb ram is just abysmal nowadays and while I love this thing every time I turn it on to try and fiddle around with it it's just so laggy that I want to put it down, so I figured a memory swap might improve it, albeit only slightly as the SoC isn't a powerful one in the first place. Any ideas? I tried looking through developer options, but didn't find it.

Xperia 1 V Sony Xperia 1 V, 5G, 67.2.A.3.178, general question/help advice

Hey all. I'm definitely a lurker in this sub. Sony Xperia 1 V was my first Sony phone and was using it up until a week ago, in Portland/T Mobile. My 5G out of nowhere just started dropping calls. I hit up T Mobile for help and they sent me a new sim card but it did not fix 5g. After more research, looks like I'm late to the party of knowing the last update patch broke 5g.

I love my 1 V, I can't go back to Samsung. It has everything I need, camera, sd card slot, sim tray, 4k. I seen a few workaround fixes on this sub and may go down that route. Downloading and flashing some of the Japanese files, I'm a total novice with this kind of stuff but have no other choice. I tried pixl ims and shizuku and did not work for me.

I'm so frustrated and feel abandoned by a company I supported. Why no communication from Sony on a fix? Was this on purpose? What is their motivation to break 5g and leave me looking for a new phone? Should I wait for an update patch before upgrading to a new a new phone? What is everyone doing that is in my shoes? If you have any links to get me caught up and updated on this situation, I would really appreciate it. Any advice or solutions yall have taken to keep using the Xperia 1 v on t mobile you can share?

HELP Sony Xperia 1V T-Mobile Network Connection

My Sony Xperia 1V XQ-DQ62 seems to only hold a consistent cellular signal when booted into safe mode.

When not in safe mode, phone is constantly changing between LTE/LTE+/5G network connections.

I have done both a factory reset for phone and software repair with sony xperia companion.

Seems to only work on T-Mobile (home network) access point and not the regular T-Mobile access point.

Now a bit stumped if there is anything else I should try before sending in for an unknown repair.

Xperia 1 V What app is the best to shoot on xperia

I bought an Xperia 1 V two months ago and I've been testing out all the best combinations to get the most quality and colours out of the camera.

The problem with 1 mark 5 is it is the bridge between 1 mark 4 and 1 mark 6. (1 mark 4 doesn't have s cinetone and 1 mark 6 uses only uses a single app for everything)

For photos, I shoot everything on raw on program auto cuz I believe raw gives more space to edit but it also takes a lot of space. Is jpeg actually good ?? And what mode do you guys use

And videos, I believe video pro is much better than cinema pro (Please correct me if I'm wrong). still confused if s cinetone or hlg is better for movie type videos. and more space to colour grade and reliable

I watched a lot of videos by James Matthews, but still nobody explains it in a clear way
