ANNOUNCEMENT You Asked, Serengeti Answered
There’s been a lot of well-deserved appreciation for Serengeti on this sub over the past few years. You guys even asked for a group buy and that post got a lot of positive responses.
Well, Serengeti noticed, and they’ve offered a limited-time 30% off code for our community! (currently for USA and Canada).
This deal’s just for our community, so please don’t share it outside or let Honey and other coupon sites pick it up. If it spreads, Serengeti could shut it down, so let’s keep it alive for the people who actually care about good lenses. That's why I am linking to Sunglass Science and not posting the code directly.
I review Serengeti’s lenses here.
I’m also starting a YouTube channel where I’ll be covering everything sunglasses — especially lenses — and I’d really appreciate your support with a quick subscribe (videos coming soon). Just like Sunglass Science and the brand connections we’ve built here, none of this would’ve happened without this awesome community.
Thanks everyone, and enjoy the discount!

Sunglass Lens Review Smith Lenses Update
After spending a (frankly insane) amount of money on Smith sunglasses, Smith had some mercy and sent me the rest of their glass lenses to include in the tint reference guide. So full disclosure on that.
You can now see the tints for all Smith glass lenses here: https://www.sunglassscience.com/post/smith-chromapop-lens-tints-reference-guide
There are also a few poly ones there I had as well. I also took a lot of comparison shots with brands like Maui Jim and Serengeti which will be included in the individual reviews for each lens.
First impressions of the new (to me) lenses, only having them for a few days without clear skies: Bronze Mirror is almost identical to Brown Polar, just slightly less red but barely noticeable change.
Polarchromic Brown Green Mirror is great, very similar in tint to the Serengeti Drivers (though doesn't seem that way from tint pics, but did when I was driving with both). Best Smith lens together with the Opal mirror IMO. Also like the Backcast frame a lot.
Glass Blue Mirror is a darker mirror than the Glass Dark Blue Mirror. Go figure. The tint isn't as amber leaning as I would like (to be closer to the Maui Jim Blue Hawaii) but it is still a noticeable shift in tint from the grey lens. The tint of the two glass Blue mirrors are nearly the same.
Haven't tried the yellow blue mirror yet. Seems intense.
And I got a second pair of Rose Blue Mirror to keep in the car. Can't recommend that one enough.
Now that I have all of them, I will also do a Smith lens Tier list on YouTube at some point soon (in addition to other brands I have all the lenses for). Ranking brands against each other is not very helpful in my opinion unless done with a lot of nuance, but ranking brands lenses against themselves would probably be useful.

Advice/Opinions/Discussion Does Oneil use polycarbonate lenses or TAC?
I live near a store where I can get Oneill sunglasses for very cheap ($20). Anyone know if they use TAC or poly lenses?

Advice/Opinions/Discussion What is the better lens option?
I know HCL bronze is good based off reviews but what is the difference between the two? Is the Piha just HCL bronze with a gold mirror? I like both styles but what lens is the best?

Advice/Opinions/Discussion MJ Grey Neutral
I think I have a pretty decent sense of optic quality. E.g., I bought up a supply of serengeti vermilions a long time ago and still have them in rotation. Contrast, baby.
Sometimes I want a break from the slight rose tweak of the vermilions. And I don't like ambers or color-emphasis lenses.
Regarding true neutral, particularly great contrast in true neutral, is anybody beating the MJ Grey Neutral?

Advice/Opinions/Discussion hit me with the best affordable luxury sunglasses for work outfits that don't feel cheap
i recently started a new role in an office where people dress up a bit more, and i realized my beat up cheap shades look super out of place with my work outfits. i am trying to find the best affordable luxury sunglasses that look elevated and designer level without costing half my paycheck. ideally wanting stylish eyewear options under $100 that still feel sturdy enough to throw in my tote bag every day.
on top of that i spend 8hrs staring at dual monitors before driving home in bright sun, so i am also looking for budget friendly, premium looking optical eyewear or frames that can handle prescription lenses easily. my current oversized pairs keep sliding down my nose during client calls and feel way too casual for the office, so finding something sleek that bridges that gap would be ideal.

Searching For American Optical Original Pilot or Randolph Military Aviators?

It's a comparison as old as time it seems, but when I attempt to find reviews and comparisons between American Optical's Original Pilot and Randolph's version of military aviators, I find many from years ago, the most recent being 2-3 years old. I am in the market for this style and now I am torn between which to get.
On one hand, as a space nerd, I love the Apollo/space heritage of the American Optical Original Pilot, but when it comes to the lifetime warranty of the Randolph Military Aviators, I am wondering if going that route is a better option.
For those of you that have experience with either, how do you like them compared to the other? Build quality, optical quality, etc. As of now, I am leaning towards the Randolph, but would love to hear from the community.

Frame ID Need help with identifying
Picked these up a while back. Made in France with a logo I can not identify. They look late 70s early 80s. Built very much like ISki.

Repair Question Spy Matte Coating Removal
Had these Spy Montana glasses forever but the matte black coating is coming off. I’m fine with the glossy black underneath, and the lenses are still in good shape, but they look horrible in this state.
Is there any chemical or cleaning agent that will strip the residue completely? Soap is not doing the trick. Stuff is like tree sap.

Advice/Opinions/Discussion Are these Robert marcs adjustable?
Got these glasses secondhand. I like them. But they are a bit loose around the ear and I have to keep push them back into place when I move or look down. Any solutions?

Repair Question MJ cruzem spots
I’m curious if this is normal for Maui Jim cruzem glasses. I have just cleaned them with demineralised water, mild dish soap and just air dryed them so it’s not dust but they don’t go away either.
These are visible only under a flashlight or direct sunlight, i have them for a couple of months and I’m just worried it’s a sign of the coating starting to break.
Can you tell me if this is normal? Thanks!

Advice/Opinions/Discussion Do Maui Jim Neutral Grey Lenses vary?
My favorite sunglasses are my Maui Jim Hana Hou (292-17C). They are super thin glass and neutral grey. I just got a pair of Maui Jim Howzit (734-02) and it supposedly has identical lenses, same material and color. They are darker and so much less vibrant and color enhancing than my older pair. The optical quality and polarization is still fantastic, but it might as well be a different color. The photos don’t do it justice, but has anyone else experienced this discrepancy before?
EDIT: Hey everyone, just to clear things up, both of these glasses are super thin glass. If they were different materials that would totally make sense to me, so that’s why I was so perplexed. Some of you mentioned the gradients being different which I hadn’t considered so thank you for the insight. I wonder if the latter has a more of a mirror layer to the outside which also might be reducing the vibrancy.

Advice/Opinions/Discussion Serengeti Sedona
Are there any people here who'd like to share some pictures of their Serengeti Sedona or Sedona Bi-Mirror sunglasses? Preferably Navigators or Trailblazers with the Sedona lenses. But it doesn't matter really. I'd be happy to see any posts or opinions on them. I'm sure there are others who might be interested. Thank you!

Frame ID Sunglasses ID
I've seen quite a few posts here asking for IDs from different movies or shows and just by sheer luck I came across this website today that people contribute on identifying glasses from shows and movies. Thought y'all might like it.

Advice/Opinions/Discussion Recommendation
I currently own a pair of Ray-Ban polarized lenses with chromance. I know RB gets a lot of sh** on this sub and luxotica in general does. But these lenses are beyond amazing with their colour quality and polarizing. I am trying to get a second pair that have same or better quality. Any brand or lens treating recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
TIA!

Collection Showcase The 003 Abides
If you are a fellow big head I don’t think many sunglasses are as versatile as the Vuarnet 003. They’re not light, but they’re so well balanced that they don’t feel terribly heavy, they look good, and they really protect the eye socket well. I’ve worn and loved the 003 since my first pair in the 80s…and paired with Vuarnet lenses, I just think it doesn’t get all that much better.
I think if I could only have one pair of sunglasses for the rest of my life, it would likely be the 003.
These are my current pairs…
A basic gray polar lens
The acetate valleys - blue polar (my faves)
Red mirror pure gray
An older pair of skilynx
Between them I always have a pair I can wear for the day.
Please show yours below!

Advice/Opinions/Discussion Thinking of buying something other than Oakley (Radar)
I have basically only worn Oakley Radar or flak(sport sunglasses without lower frame) my whole adult life. Every pair I have owned has had the iridium mirror finish flake. In fact my current flak set is flaking on the inside on the non mirror part. I am very upset at this because I take good care of my expensive glasses.
I very much like the style of Oakley Radar both for how it fits my face and stays there. I go fishing boating and do outdoor stuff and prefer no lower rim. I bought the polarized prism with this last set and honestly it's excellent lens. I got the deep water color so it's slightly brown I believe which I prefer over my black color ones I have had before.
What other options are out there? Similar style is a must. It's either that or I buy aftermarket lens for a radar frame and move on. No excuses for peeling and flaking where my eyes are. Sweat should not run $160 lenses.
