Since its that time of year again...Mod PSA on TBall tickets

Hi all,

Once again TBall has almost instantly sold out. The subreddit now normally delves into 80% of posters looking for tickets.

PLEASE BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL OF SCAMS. From personal experience, there are some genuine people here selling real tickets. There are a lot more scammers though. We don't want anyone being left cashless with no ticket, or worse, showing up on the night of the Ball and finding out their ticket is fake (after they've already gotten dressed up and inhaled 40 cans of Prazsky). So:

1) Use you gut - if someone is selling the exact number of tickets you want, and for cheap, that's suspicious.

2) If you think they might be genuine, comb through their reddit profile and see if they're often selling other tickets for events, which may not even in Ireland - that's suspicious.

3) If it's a new account with like 2 karma - stay away!

4) Everyone is a bot unless proven otherwise (honestly that's good advice beyond the scope of r/TCD).

Suspicious accounts mass-commenting on posts looking for tickets will be checked and may be given a temporary ban until the date of the Ball has passed. Unfortunately we don't have the resources to facilitate and moderate any sort of ticketswap thread or anything like that, as it'll become a mess.

Happy hunting, good luck in exams, and enjoy the Ball.

How do you know what modules will be covered in the Schols exam?

I'm trying to get ready for the Schols exam this year in english and history joint honours, but am unsure what modules will actually be covered. Does anyone know what modules will be covered, do you have to guess, do you have to wait until closer to the exam to find out?

Goldsmith hall room

Hi
Does anyone currently live in Goldsmith House 69, apartment 69.2? I’m trying to find out whether 69.2.01, .02, .03 or .04 are the double-bed rooms. If anyone knows which two are doubles (or has a photo of the apartment layout), I’d really appreciate it! Thank uouuu😊

Postgrad orientation week events

I have just checked all of the sessions for the social events are full. I had no idea they would ran out so quickly. Is there a last minute chance some spots can open? Is regular orientation still fine to socialise? Feels really bumming to miss all of these 🥲

Absences Medicine

Hi everyone, I’ve got a question to all the people that study Medicine at TCD. Could you help me figure out how absences work during the non-exam period? To be specific at the beggining of the year, in mid October? Are the lectures mandatory or can I be absent for a couple days? Are labs? Do I have to catch up on them with a different group? Any information would be helpful, I just got in but I’m not Irish nor living in Ireland and therefore I am not familiar with how serious absences are taken at Irish universities. We’re talking about a 2-3 day absence, not due to a health reason but a family one. Sorry if this is silly. I just like to prepare in advance, or if I can’t afford an absence-let people know. Thank you

Having trouble registering

I’ve logged into my.tcd website with my student ID and password and all but on the guide to register online it says I’m meant to receive some type of invitation once I’ve logged in but I don’t see anything

Is this happening to anyone else?

TCD Dillema - Go or not to go?

I have serious dilemma regarding university education at Trinity College Dublin. I am Polish and I have been accepted into International Relations Bachelor degree and a Law degree at the University of Warsaw. It is the best university in my country but it does not have the same world class status as Trinity does. In Trinity my desired course was Political Science and Social Policy, but I did not get into it and I only got an offer to do Philosophy. I am aware that there are other recruitment rounds but I only have 540 CAO points and am unsure whether I will get my desired degree or not.

I've read a lot of great stuff about Trinity College and it is truly my dream uni, but the downside is that it is bloody expensive for a middle class Pole like me. And then Philosophy is something I do like but I am skeptical of pursuing it as my major on a Bachelors degree. I feel like this degree alone will not be enough to give me a good foundation to pursue a International Relations/Government career that I wanna pursue now. It is more versatile though and seems to open doors into a vide plethora of master degrees and jobs if I my vision for the future changes.

The two universities have a significantly different vibe from each other. Warsaw is more focused on en-masse teaching, whereas Trinity is more tight-knit and personal. This is where I feel Trinity has an advantage, because I believe this will result in a better learning atmosphere and closer relationships with the people I'll meet there. It is also very international compared to Warsaw, which is also very appealing to me as It'll allow me to have contacts all over the world.

Essentially my heart wants me to go to Trinity but my mind keeps telling me that staying in Warsaw is the more reasonable choice career and money vise. Especially that with the money saved on Trinity I will be able to go on Erasmus and then possibly pursue a Masters abroad. I also have family and friends in Warsaw, so it'd be way easier to settle down there.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Thank you for reading through this post!

PS: I got the dorm room offer so the accommodation question is solved but I only have about one or two days to accept it, so I have to let them know today if I accept the offer or not...

Need some help registering with medicine

I'm an EU student and I got accepted into TCD medicine, and I'd like to start the process of registering, but there's a part about Garda vetting that really confuses me.

On the TCD website it is said that Garda vetting must be completed before registration opens up. However I've spoken to multiple people from the academic registry, and they've all given me different information. One said that I can register beforehand, and just submit the documents when I get to Ireland, while another said that to even start registration I need to submit them.

Furthermore, I've gotten an email that I'd get an invite to register sometime this week, which would support the first statement, but I've already been waiting for 5 days, and so far no email has arrived.

If anyone went through the same situation or is going through it I'd be grateful for any information about this I'm honesty really confused about what I can do, since if I do need to hand in the documents beforehand, I'd need to book an early flight to Ireland for 1 day just to give in some paper🙏

Accomodation halls chances?

applied under additional need as a cao applicant for first year, got an email today and didn't get halls :(

emailed them asking to be put on the wait list and said that i'm open to a shared twin room. can't afford anything else, so i'd just have to commute without halls i think.

i know in previous years people got a room after round 1 course offers came out and people didn't get their course or rejected it, but is there much chance of that happening this year? considering the room offers only came out after round 1 course offers went out.

is talking to them on the phone better than email, or should i just keep emailing and checking up? or is it best to just leave them be after i've already sent them an email?

Resit isn't posted on Blackboard 4 hours before the deadline

Hey guys, was meant to take a quick resit today on Blackboard due at midnight. We have 40 mins to complete once we open it. However the folder where the test is meant to show up is completely empty. I'm panicking as there are only 4 hours left to submit but my lecturer doesn't seem to have posted it. I've contacted him via Email and Blackboard messages but no response. If I don't get this in tonight I'll fail the year for a stupid reason, that can't be fair? What can I do in this situation?

Is there a way to get support for paying student levies?

I've got SUSI and free fees but I'm left with about 200 to pay before I can fully register. I'm on very low income and I can't really spare that much without raiding what very little savings I have. Is there any support for those on social welfare payments or who just simply can't afford it?

Thanks in advance for any help :))

Accomodation login to accommodation portal

i havent heard from trinity halls via email so i regularly log into the accommodation portal to check if my application might have been rejected.

as i was doing that yesterday i read that successful cao applicants should register with their tcd number, i did that and on that new profile they have all my information except the fact that i have an ongoing application for a room

should i just wait whether or not they contact me for a room? or do i (kinda as a confirmation) fill out the room application again? or should i email them?

also did you guys get your halls email yet?

Registration

I got my offer for tr040 but I still haven’t received an email about registering. I’ve logged into my.tcd account and set up my computer account. I also got an offer for trinity halls and I need my registration to accept it. Have other people not received the registration email or should I email them?
