Nope
So I've been ignoring TEW2 for a while now after playing the first game as I've seen people saying that it just doesn't have the same atmosphere or horror aesthetic of the first game.
But the first hour I played was so atmospheric and creepy, I also am so happy with the game's performance on PS5 running at 60fps or more compared to the first game. I know the game becomes a little non linear ahead but nonetheless I'm sold after just playing 1 hour and I'm excited to see what comes next for Sebastian. Also, did the the voice actor change for him? Because this time Sebastian is much more expressive lol. I loved his clueless and not giving a fuck nature from the first game haha.

Thank you! I haven't been this excited to play a survival horror game this much since well the last evil within lol. I mean I did look forward to and enjoy RE Requiem recently but nothing really matched TEW for me yet. Hoping this will :)

It was soooo close to being my favorite horror game of all time, just needed a little more time spent developing the back half and had a little more polish overall. I really think the only downside is Sebastian having a different voice actor

Yeah man, I noticed it within the first 10 minutes. He was being too talkative and expressive. The Sebastian I knew would only say "What?", "What the fuck?", "What is going on?", "Back here again" lol. so it definitely feels different with this new voice actor, I hate it when games do that. Hoping the new one grows on me.

I really hope not lol. I've been very much looking forward to playing this and loved the first hour of the game.

TEW2 is great, I platinumed it. I was sweating on the classic mode, but it was an unforgettable experience.
don’t hesitate to explore everything in those semi-open chapters. it’s geeting back more linear at some point, if anything

Explore everything you can. This will make sense. I forgot where this is as it's been long time since I played so you may be able to explore now or soon and don't want to spoil anything.

I really got more scared with the second game rather than the first one, the athmosphere is fantastic and the enemys are made to have nightmares with them, specially the ghost sections, which I hated of how they made me feel, I’m not a horror game hard core fan, and I actually have little experience playing some since I get scared very easy, but I can tell you it gave me some hard time. Loved TEW2 a lot.

Yes, the voice actor changed, he’s more emotive and talks more in the sequel, which I dislike about him. His character in the first game was much more pronounced. Also, TEW2 has an impressive intro, but it doesn’t keep that horror through the game. TEW1 has a much better story, it’s better written and delivered to the player. The Evil Within 2 feels like a scattered mess of ideas and gameplay elements at times.

Hmm, I am looking forward to the story tbh. Maybe I'll come back once I finish the game to give my thoughts but thanks :)

I FORGOT ABOUT THIS. Honestly to date these two games were full of really scary parts that few games have come close to. I literally had to take breaks cause some of it was like really creepy

TEW2 is much, much more accessible than the first one. I prefer the first one for a lot of reasons, but I can fully understand why most people prefer the second one. There are still some really effective horror sequences coming up in 2, but imo some of the “weirdness” of the first one gets lost once the series fully embraces the “sci-fi” of it all

It’s a dark horror game till stefano’s phase. Once you kill him, it becomes fantasy action-adventure game. Both Theodore and Myra phases are very dull.

And that's the only creepy atmospheric part lol. That or the ghost section you'll encounter later.
Atmosphere wise it got nothing on the first game but the gameplay is definitely great

Damn, still if it's good gameplay then I'll be satisfied. Thanks :)

Hehe you're definitely gonna love that one boss fight if you played the original game. Won't spoil but you'll know.
Make sure to thoroughly explore the open world. There are a lot of missabble items

Good luck, after that intro the game will start expect and awards you for dealing with monsters rather than run away but still it has good tension

Sad we will most likely never see a third game, i loved both Evil Withins (1 had better at atmosphere, but 2 is still very good in my opinion)

The second game is different. Personally, I didn’t like it as much, even though it’s not a bad game. There are actually quite a few things it does better. But for me, the first one is still the better game. It starts so incredibly strong for me in that slaughterhouse, with the lighting and the fact that you actually have to do more than just press forward. Sebastian can easily die in that first chapter if you’re not careful, and at 60 FPS I’m pretty sure the Sadist can actually catch you during those chase sequences.
The second game is more about just holding forward, and you’re pretty much guaranteed to be safe. I had to laugh so hard at the sequence you showed, because I actually ran straight into them to see if they would do anything. All I got was feet in my face.
But of course, you can absolutely enjoy the game for what it is. Have fun with it! Enjoy the ride.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to see what happens and will definitely give my thoughts once I finish it.
P.S. I don't know why you got downvoted for sharing your opinion, nonetheless thanks looking forward to playing the game.1

Thx! (If you say you don’t like the second game, people will practically beat you up around here sometimes. :D)

Honestly....I prefer the second and replay it way more than the first, is it overall less scary due to the more open nature, Yes. However the combat is simply magnificent, it rivals some of the best survival horror games.
Nothing beats the start of the game on hard, having to slowly sneak kill everything, with enemies being able to easily rip you apart, it has amazing tension.
