If an individual is within 20ft holding a knife of another with a handgun, statistically they can easily close the distance to kill/harm/death before the individual eith a firearm can even respond by firing. It may be messed up, visually, but, it makes sense, statistically. I'd rather shoot someone than roll the dice and hope they dont kill me by waiting. It's a shitty situation either way you cut it, but very understandable.
