I’m choosing my words very carefully as well, they need to end, as it is a completely unsustainable practice that is using up valuable land all around the world.

There’s no need to do the math out because it is not even a matter of debate - there is simply not enough land to bury everyone in graveyards, as a whole body. Of course I am excluding solutions like mass graves in remote areas where bodies are piled into one giant hole in the desert, because those are obviously not socially viable solutions in any culture.

Ignoring this because you have the financial means or live in a locale where this is still feasible isn’t an ethical choice. We need to culturally normalize cremation, and can still maintain as much as possible about the funeral ceremony and work out alternative monuments and solutions for a physical memory.

We just cannot do it anymore. It is not a matter of respect or disrespect or tradition or religion. We have to change these practices, and can’t just keep kicking the can down the road .

Whenever the topic of mankind’s greatest inventions come up, Google Earth is rarely mentioned which is why I think this is an unpopular opinion.

The ability to look in depth into any place on Earth, regardless of how remote or inaccessible the areas are is truly astonishing. It’s such a great tool for human/land development, exploration, and collection of information that our ancestors would never even imagine would be a thing.

The amount of effort, money, research, data storage, etc. through street view cars, satellites, land surveying is truly impressive that I think goes overlooked by most.

The fact that’s it’s totally free and ad free to anyone with internet access makes it even cooler and more significant.

I will preface that I'm not a big fan of chili, but I will eat it especially if someone makes it for me and has even found people who make chili that even I can like. As for cornbread, I do really like it and will eat it by itself.

However, I don't get how these 2 foods got paired together and became such a staple pairing. They do not go together at all. The spicy savoriness of the chili and the earthiness of the beans doesn't go well with cornbread's delicate sweetness at all. Plus, eating the chili before the cornbread makes the cornbread taste dryer than it really is (or maybe people who make good chili suck at making cornbread).

Then if you decide to dip your cornbread in the chili to help moisten it, it ruins the taste of the chili by adding that sweetness to what should be a savory and spicy main dish.

Chili does a disservice to cornbread and vice versa.

Edit: For those of you who eat chili with cinnamon rolls. Eww, WTF.

Those of you who have told me different ways of preparing cornbread without making it sweet. you have enlightened me, I have literally never had cornbread that isn't sweet. Forgive me for my ignorance.

Everyone is so keen on 'optimizing credit card rewards' whether its through points multiplying, cash back, etc. Sure, you may be able to redeem a few more expenses than you would without it but more people have gone into worse financial situations by chasing credit card rewards than they got back redeeming them. Interest rates from unpaid credit card bills, mindless overspending, or spending more than you needed to for the sake of your rewards are all part of the big picture that have been detrimental. If society only had access to debit cards or cash and spent according to what they have in their bank, they would be far better off. And no, the one person who got a business class flight covered through points does not make up for the number of people who have struggled from the aforementioned behaviors and interest rates.

I’m not saying Italian food isn’t good food, in fact, I think it’s great food.

However, I don’t think it’s good enough that an Italian can lose their mind when the ingredients call for tomatoes and basil but you add tomato’s basil AND GARLIC OH HEAVENS NO.

I feel like the rest of the world are cool with these little modifications but Italians will denounce a carbonara as, well, not a carbonara, if mushrooms are added too.

I think we need to relax a little. I get and appreciate the minimalistic approach to cooking with select ingredients but I don’t have freaking guanciale, I’ve got bacon lardons god dammit it’s still a carbonara.

Hallmark romcoms have been the butt of many jokes. "Girl with a career and boyfriend in the city goes back to her hometown for a visit, meets loafer with a heart of gold who is actually heir to a huge farm, and she dumps her workaholic boyfriend to live happily ever after with this new man" gets ridiculed often. Yes, I get that going back to your hometown and suddenly meeting a very nice and handsome man who is also very rich and is willing to do all sorts of crazy stuff to woo you is very silly. Yes, I get that dumping your boyfriend who's only sin was working hard while you're on vacation is silly.

The thing is action movies are also very silly. Am I supposed to believe that John Wick can prevail in a gun fight against a dozen guys, judo throw a guy then use jujutsu on another one to finish both off, then get pushed and roll down a hundred flight of stairs, and then get back up and win another gun fight against a dozen guys again? Obviously not. But we generally all agree to suspend our sense of logic as it's an action movie.

I think it's a double standard. And this is coming from a guy who is a big fan of John Wick.

Granted, this may be different for people with a spouse and kids at home. And realistically, the best balance is probably something along the lines of half-and-half. But choosing strictly between working fully on-site vs. WFH, there’s a strong case for on-site.

People don’t realize that for many, work is often the most consistently challenging (and therefore mentally engaging) part of their lives. Being at home 20+ hours per day eventually gets old, no matter how introverted someone is. Sure, people can go out of their way to pursue additional hobbies, etc. But having the discipline to force yourself to regularly get out of the house isn’t always easy.

Many folks tend to be happier when they have obligations that involve responsibilities outside of the home. It’s important to get out and interact with other people, even if some of those people may be annoying or cause a degree of stress at times. Occasional small doses of discomfort make the good days 10x better. And the complete absence of stress (while literal heaven at first) can eventually cause discomfort in itself.

Many schools are cancelling their football seasons and I think it's a good thing. We have been getting news reports of kids being assaulted by their coaches and the comments sections are full of people calling the kids soft. Football has become an excuse to disregard morality. There are stories going as far back as the 1980s of schools ignoring a child's failing grades so they can play on the team. It has turned from a fun game for kids to a gateway for scholarships. People are putting their children's health at risk for a scholarship that is rare to get.

It was bad in the past where student athletes could cut class and assault people and it would be ignored but now parents are beating out the kids of the other team. I love football but until the culture around it changes I am happy less and less kids play it.

I know most people refuse to eat the tail of a shrimp, and pull it off, but in my opinion it is possibly the best part of eating shrimp. It adds a much needed extra crunch to the fish, for example, nigiri sushi is far more enjoyable with that crunch. I like the taste of shrimp, but without the tail it loses an integral part of the flavor. The tail is great and it’s silly to be grossed out by it.

I understand why students like sitting in the back. It can feel more comfortable and private. You don't have to worry as much about other students or the professor seeing what's on your computer or phone.

But I still prefer sitting in the front. I find it easier to pay attention and follow what the professor is saying. I also feel more involved in the class.

The privacy concern is probably the biggest reason students avoid the front, but I don't think it's enough to outweigh the benefits.

My car's in the shop right now and the dealership gave me a 2020 Subaru Outback as a loaner. "Oh, that's cool," I thought, since Subaru owners universally seem to be madly in love with their cars. Well, after having this thing for 3 days, I can confidently state that this is the second worst car I've ever driven (a Mitsubishi Outlander being the worst), and I'm struggling to figure out what all the Subaru fanboy/fangirling is all about.

For starters, it's a total disappointment in terms of power, acceleration and handling. No, I wasn't expecting the Outback to hug corners like a Porsche, but this thing has all the maneuverability and fun factor of a cinder block. Plus it's ugly as hell to look at.

The interior appears to have been designed by a design school dropout. The bulky ass infotainment screen isn't the least bit intuitive, the instrument cluster is hard to see behind the steering wheel, and the push button start is way lower than it needs to be. The glove compartment is so low it's literally (and I mean literally in the most literal sense of the word) inaccessible if there's a passenger. Also, the seats are neither stylish nor comfortable. If you're gonna look like office furniture, at least be comfy.

Fuel economy? So far this thing is averaging a measly 23 mpg.

Even the vaunted Subaru "reliability" is a myth. In the latest JD Power Vehicle Reliability Study, Subaru ranks behind Buick, Chevy, Lexus, Mini, and Cadillac.

"But it's always number one in Consumer Reports!" the fanboy/fangirls cry. Well, if you look at the fine print, you'll see that's not a data-driven study, but an owner's poll which tracks "average predicted reliability" (their words, not mine).

And whenever I bring up these points, someone invariably says, with a straight face, "But it'll last for 300,000 miles!" Yeah... that's not a benefit, it's a prison sentence.

In my opinion, the songs made by Freddie Mercury as a solo singer, are way more better than mostly of Queen songs.

Albums like Barcelona or Mr. Bad Guy are way better than other Queen's albums.

Barcelona, in particular, was the peak of his career, and also the moment when he truly surpassed himself vocally.

Tom Cruise was a better Jack Reacher than Alan Ritchson.
Ritchson has the size and looks closer to the books. That matters. But Reacher is not mainly about bulk. The character runs on cold precision, quiet observation, and efficient violence with almost no emotional display. Cruise plays that better.
His Reacher is still and watchful. You see him thinking. The fights feel clinical and a little unsettling because there is no wasted movement and no visible satisfaction. Ritchson sells the physical threat and the brawling well, but the detached, analytical core is thinner. Cruise captures more of the internal distance that defines the character on the page.
Book Reacher uses size as a tool. The real weapon is the mind. Cruise understood that dynamic more clearly, even if the body did not match. Ritchson got the look right. Cruise got the performance right.

I hear alot ppl saying its just the cream thats good but u could never eat more than a little cream raw it would just be bad and u will get tired of it. The combination of it with the cookie is what actually makes da thing good.

Pretty much the title. Regularly, I see people in my city's sub complaining about noise from the bars, motorcycles/cars, emergency sirens etc etc. No one outside of those living in the downtown core post anything like this. Cities make noise, people make noise, car horns honk. If you can't deal with that, you shouldn't live in the core of the city, and I personally think they have no basis to complain.

in my opinion, getting over someone is a lot easier if you hate them. it would be so much harder to move on from a relationship that you know realistically wouldn’t work long term but you still deeply love and care about each other.

Over the past 8 years, I have been doing a lot of solo traveling. Growing up, I remember airports as this huge stressful build up and a lot of long waits in lines with frustrated relatives. Any time the topic comes up at a party or in popular culture/media they are treated like some sort of hell on earth.

Since traveling alone, I realize that airports can be very simple and fast if you do the tiniest amount of prep and research beforehand and know how to read signs and listen to directions.

Every single time I've gone through airports by myself, be they the main airport I fly out of (one of the busiest and largest in the world) or tiny airports with hardly any English speakers, it took me 20-30 minutes and I had no issues. Today I got through one in about 17 minutes.

The common denominator for bad airport experiences has always been that I'm with other people who are either unprepared, terrible at packing efficiently, made dumb touristy choices, or can't read clear signage plastered all over the place.

I'm so done with the advice of "Well, it sucks that this bad thing happened to you, but you can't control it, but you can control how you respond to it". People are allowed to feel bad about things, whether or not they have control over it. Telling them to just put on a happy face and pretend everything's OK isn't helpful. Personally, I'd much rather have someone vent about their bad feelings than keep them bottled up until they explode.

This is mostly turkeys, chickens, and sometimes ducks. They are way more intelligent and pet-like than people think, and I think anyone who's ever had a small flock could agree. They know their names. They know your face. They have cute moments. They literally purr like a cat. They are excited, vocal, or more docile and cuddly. They can be your favorite cat or dog. Hell, raise them with dogs and they'll use dog beds and eat dog food.

My most favorite pet memories ever were with a white brahma hen, named Brahma, who used to run to me to escape a mean rooster. She ended up becoming the sweetest house chicken ever. Another favorite was Drumstick the turkey, who was so sweet and protective. They both knew their names and ran to you when you called them. I think if more people had small flocks, they'd definitely understand what I mean.

Best part is, if youre lazy, all you gotta do it feed and water them once a day and thats it. They graze the grass and find water in random places otherwise.

You don't need to wait until october to eat soup. You can make it literally any time of year. Why do people get so excited to eat soup during "sweater season" when you can cook it whenever the hell you want?

Eat ice cream in the winter. Eat chili and beef stew in the summer. Nothing is stopping you except lame social norms that have no real reason behind them.

I will gladly eat chili or beef stew on the hottest day of summer. I will gladly eat an ice cream bar in the middle of winter.

There are a few exceptions:

-people who don't have AC in the summertime and eating warm food or using the oven/stovetop in general would be a problem. This does not apply to my family and yet my family refuses to eat/cook "winter food" in the summertime. It's not just an issue online.

-fruits/vegetables that have in seasons and out seasons. Watermelon in the winter isn't really available or does5nt taste very good, for example.

This is generally speaking. Dont go talking about "what about meeee? You didn't mention my hyperspecific unique situation as one of your exceptions."

People often get frustrated when they find themselves constantly being the one reaching out to someone and not receiving the same effort in return.

I don’t think that’s necessarily always a bad thing. Not every friendship exists at the same level of closeness, and not everyone values or maintains relationships in the same way. Someone may enjoy talking to you and genuinely like you without considering you one of their closest friends and that’s okay. Not everyone is going to be your best friend or value relationships in the same way.

Of course, it can be hurtful when this happens with someone you’ve considered a close friend for years. But expecting every relationship to have perfectly equal effort on both sides is unrealistic. Some friendships are simply casual, and some people are nice to talk to or hang out with occasionally without needing constant communication.

Being the person who reaches out more doesn’t automatically mean the relationship is bad or that the other person doesn’t care. Not every friendship needs to be perfectly equal to still be worthwhile.

I understand that people like the musicians they see and want to sing along but it means that everyone else can't hear the musician and instead you hear a bunch of out of tune people around you and the occasional next beyonce or someone else. If it's a free event I understand, but a paid concert or festival I don't understand as you pay to see the artists. Maybe if you sing along to a part of it, but the whole song??

I'm a horrible singer who loves going to music events and for me it adds a sour note to the experience and the day. I love the atmosphere at the music events so some singing is ok but not too much. I feel like this is definitely an unpopular opinion.

EDIT: People can sing their hearts out but not the whole song or every song. Or they need to fix the speakers, but everyone might go deaf. For me I like to listen to the lyrics as they have meaning but for me it's hard to get that with everyone singing along to every word, I lov epeople singing their hearts out but I like to listen yo the musicians.

Iced tea is better than hot tea. Iced coffee is better than hot coffee. Chocolate milk is better than hot chocolate. Drinking beverages at 160+ degrees is absolutely unhinged unless it's 30 below freezing and you're trying to prevent hypothermia. Humans, like all animals, prefer cold drinks naturally because cold water would have fewer pathogens. Historically it's just been easier to heat something rather than cool it and drinking hot drinks when it's above freezing is surely just a holdout from those times.

They’re simpler to tie, they’re prettier, they’ve got a more classical image. I strongly dislike wearing ties and almost never do unless forced, but were cravats in style I’d happily wear them
