Exactly. Chrono Trigger is fantastic, timeless, and already one of the titans of the JRPG genre. It doesn't NEED a remake, but I'd play the shit out of one.
Chrono Cross is ambitious, and beautiful, but flawed with an incredible amount of unrealized potential. A remake could be incredible.
I think 2d animation in games in general have a timeless quality where they don’t need updating visually and triggers gameplay is totally solid
I vastly prefer Cross I just like the ambition and the story more. That being said as with many ambitious games of its era it’s not perfect and a few refinements and a new look could make it a 10/10 masterpiece
The music was great, the gameplay and characters were good, the story.... was like something pulled from the ramblings of an old homeless guy cracked out of his mind on drugs. I think I would have enjoyed it more as a standalone game so I wouldn't have been so irritated by the feeling that Chrono Trigger deserved a better sequel.
I whole heartedly disagree. I think after a few play throughs seeing a lot of the different possible outcomes you really appreciate the writing and diversity of characters as well as the ambitious nature of it as a sequel and how it still follows the story of the original.
