Modteam Announcement FYI: About our neighbors...

Reddit's got a Moderator Code of Conduct that they expect modteams to operate under, with five guidelines.

Modteams that try to operate outside those guidelines tend to land on Admin radar, sometimes at a coast to their communities.

One of those guidelines is "Respect your neighbors", and while the full details are found at that link, it boils down to Wheaton's Law. If you've got an issue with another community's modteams or culture, you'll want to take it up with them, instead of here.

Book: The Eye of the World Dragonsteel Books The Eye of the World Leatherbound Edition has Finally Arrived Spoiler

Pre-ordered the book back in February and it finally arrived yesterday. They had some manufacturing problems and paused production for a while until they figured everything out which was a large part of the delay. This is the "fixed" version of the book and it looks magnificent :) Look and feel is really nice, the illustrations and 2 tone printing are fantastic, and overall a very nice version of one of my favorite books! I did kind of a longer video for anyone interested looking over the book in more detail and comparing it to a Folio Society and Easton Press book, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYGkIb5r3Ok.

I've read the series 3 times through, initially in high school in the late 90s, again on deployment around 2004 or so, and a 3rd time once the series was completed. Once this full run of leatherbound books is completed I'll have another reason to read the series once more :D

My only real negative of the book is in his it was packed and shipped. They placed the book in a box a good bit larger than the book itself with zero packing material so the book was able to bounce around within the box. Luckily my book arrived undamaged but I'm sure others will not be so lucky. Seems kind of lazy for a somewhat expensive book.

My wife told me to call down. But I couldn’t contain the excitement and there was so much traffic. I never got to shout at them to say I love it!

Book: Winter's Heart Why is Elayne so ungrateful Spoiler

It's driving me crazy.

SPOILERS

Every other nation bows to the Dragon or is dismantled by it. He cradles your land to give it to you whole. But you have too much pride to be "given it". You pull down his banners. No outreach to him. Others are afraid to contest you because he looms behind you, but you act like he has nothing to do with your ability to waltz back into Camlyn after months to try and sit the throne.

THEN YOU TAKE OVER HIS SCHOOL??

Like he wanted one good thing to be born of him, this young kid whose being tormented by fate, mad voices, prophecies, politics.....and you rename it instead of doing your OWN thing.

Ugh.

Book: The Eye of the World Currently reading The eye of the world (I just started Ch. 13 Play for your supper) Spoiler

It's been great so far, not a moment of boredom. I loved Thom, may he rest in peace, and Elyas intrigues me. I knew Hopper for a couple of hours, but his death hurt as much as the gleeman's; he will now fly as high as an eagle. Hopefully, Byar dies a very painful death.

I also can't wait for Mat to be woken up from the thrall. He was a fun character to be around until he took that dagger; he reminds me of Gollum and the ring, or Ron when he was holding the Horcrux.

PS.I wasn't sure if I should mark this as a spoiler or not, but I decided to err on the side of caution and mark it. I wouldn't have liked to be spoiled on the death of the gleeman.

Also, sorry for my English.

Book: The Path of Daggers Nynaeve, a question Spoiler

I'm on path of dagger and I'm curious about Nynaeve. Is the stick ever going to come out of her ass or is she going to be offended by everything said to her for the next 6 books as well? I'm enjoying the series quite a bit but her character CONSTANTLY being offended by anything and everything is tiresome.

Initially found the eye of the world at a goodwill for $1. Stumbled upon a treasure trove at another local thrift store a couple months later for books 2-13 and New Spring for $.50 each. It took months to locate a copy of A memory of light as it seamed very hard to find. I ended up finding it for $15. September 1st I plan to start The Shadow Rising. It’s been a great adventure so far!!

NO SPOILERS My 11yo son has got to The Blight in two days

Post image
545 Upvotes

After he demolished the entire works of Brandon Sanderson over the last 12 months, I decided the moment had come...and I handed him WoT on Friday. Two days later and he's on Chapter 48, The Blight. I'm so bloody happy and excited for him. I started reading WoT at 14 and have read them a dozen times or so, easy. It's an amazing feeling watching someone, especially your kid, discovering and enjoying it for themselves 30 years later. And I'm SO excited for what he has to come... I've told him to remember the words "Dumai's Wells" and remember that conversation with me, because his life will never be the same when he gets to that point. OMG when it all kicks off in Book 3 it's just the greatest series ever written.

Sharing my joy!!!!

Book: The Shadow Rising I just need you to know Spoiler

That if Lanfear is half as beautiful as they say she is I’m going with her. Whether as Selene or when she reveals herself in the stone.

You’re telling me we’re the most powerful man and woman (respectively) to ever live and you’re a smokeshow?

That’s a mistake I’m going to make.

Other Media What are the best articles/podcasts/interviews about Robert Jordan and the symbolism in WoT?

Having read the entire series twice, I'm now listening to the books. I'm really noticing the themes of philosophy, religious concepts and mythology. Some are obvious like the Yin Yang symbol for the Aes Sedai, or serpent eating itself.
But I just learned that Heracles went mad and killed his family. So now I'm wondering what else I'm missing.
Does anyone have any suggestions of where I can learn more?

ALL SPOILERS: All media Ive decided to merge my two favs Spoiler

Ive decided that im creating the world of wheel of time in Minecraft, spent like an entire week converting sketchy timelines into miles, into blocks, into a rough mapped out points for the major cities and some smaller towns.

Originally I intended to use days in the books to minecraft days to map distance, but that would have left me with a world width of over 560,000 blocks (im doing this on a ps4 too so... rip) not including the Waste so I scaled it down further so that roughly a mile is 8 blocks. I shuffled through hundreds of randomly generated seeds until I found biomes that roughly match what the topography of the Westlands are, I of course know the real pros use things like WorldEdit but as ive mentioned I have a ps4, too much patience, and a love of Wheel of Time

So, as Ive begun excavating the Green of Emonds Field, I thought id ask the community what specific way points do I need to make sure I add, or locations? Yes I am gonna be transforming the nether into the ways and using that as way travel and the End will serve as our Tower of Genjai. Considering the cities alone, I need art inspiration, so what are some of your favorites?

ALL SPOILERS: Books only Thoughts on the One Power

My love for this series is in the way Jordan created a hard magic system and showed the myriad of ways to be “powerful” in the power. Please add any you may have noticed that i missed:

Pure Strength - How Much Power can you Channel into a single weave - Rand’s Time Turning Baelfire to save Matt and the maidens

The Balance in Elements - How much of each element can you channel into a single weave - Egwene’s balance in the 4 elements and Spirit

The Myriad of weaves simultaneously - How many weaves can your power channel at once (Egwene on forkroot while captive in the tower - this one is particularly interesting bc Egwene was so weak at the time that she did not or could not “hold” enough power to even be called an Aes Sedei Yet she was able to finger blast more weaves at once that it was unbelievable to anyone who didn’t see it themselves. The lack of power and her ability to do it, implied heavily that it’s an ability that rests outside of power alone.

Deftness of threads into a massive weave - Nyneave delving to cure madness

I love that it shows not just power that is important but also that there is layers to the power as well as a skill tree that you can develop with practice - Aveindha learning to unweave for example.

i just love to make believe of offshoots of schools (similar to The Witcher Schools or sub-bending in the Avatar Universe) were channelers can go and hone specific levels of their innate talents outside of just the Ajahs.

What did I miss?

My thought is this is another turning of the wheel. Same Dark One, same Forsaken, same world, many familiar faces, but new Ta'veren. Will the world survive Tarmon Gai'don?

Still working out details, open to suggestions. Hoping for players who know D&D and WOT, and would like a longer campaign/story. Planning to olay over text chat. Hit me up if that sounds cool!

Book: The Fires of Heaven I don’t understand Min Spoiler

So I’ve finished up to the fires of heaven and I still can’t understand why Rand and Min like each other when they have spoken like two sentences to each other. Rand knows literally nothing about min other than her ability, and they’re more acquaintances than friends. Yet Min is head over heels over him and he has unsubstantiated assumptions about her that makes it feel forced and confusing. I get the other two relationships but between Rand and Min there nothing and yet I’m being gaslighted into thinking there’s something

Book: A Memory of Light Favorite great captian? Spoiler

I’ve been re-reading the series and always thought the idea of the great captains was pretty cool. Just wondering who everyone’s favorite of the 5 OG great captains is?

I think mine is Rodel Ituralde but maybe that’s because you get more POV chapters of him and his tactics than the others?
