Yorkie’s are worse than having kids

No joke when I’m saying yorkies are worse, we got a Yorkie after someone in our family died and he was at our place while his father was in hospital. When he died we decided to keep his dog. We had no idea what a ride this was gonna be, this 12 year old dog is så clingy all the time. I basically have to keep my toilet door open for him, because he doesn’t wanna be in the bathroom with me, but start scratching at the door the second I close it 😂 I’ve grown up with dogs, but this kind of dog isn’t like the «normal» ones. They have such big personalities. He have for sure turned me to a Yorkie lover. Gotta say I love him thou, he is the best dog. He is a 12 year old grumpy man, that just wanna cuddle and go on walks. Here he is living his best senior life with us.

If anyone wanna comment on his short hair, he is short beacuse his fur was matted when we got him. We are gonna try longer now when the heat is over.

Willow went on a trip and hotel stay for the first time!

Our Willow is pretty anxious about going in the car and we had a 5hr drive to get to our hotel. Was a bit apprehensive about how she'd manage the trip and the stay. And while she is mostly potty trained she has accidents inside sometimes. We brought some pee pads in case so she had somewhere safe to go in the room. And she performed great! She was quite upset when we drove out but then settled in. She peed at rest stops and while she peed in the room twice over the weekend she only did so on her pads! She was such a good girl and travel companion and I love her so much.

New food options for a picky and sensitive belly?

Post image

I was wondering what food options people have gravitated toward for their Yorkies with sensitive bellies!

My last Yorkie was on the canned Hills from the vet for 11 of her 14 years but still ended up needing to switch to homemade chicken and rice her last few years. She did really well on the homemade and I have wondered since if there’s Hills was really the best option for her in hindsight. It’s been about ten years since she passed and we just adopted our sweet little purebred blondie boy this year, but there are so many more food options now that I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by choice!

He came to us with an unhappy belly Blue Buffalo, and we have tried a couple of the more frequently recommended WSAVA compliant brands without much success (Hills Science Diet, Purina, and most recently Royal Canin). He doesn’t like the kibbles very much but won’t eat too wet so I’ve just been soaking his kibbles a little at this point, but between constant upset poops and his overall distaste for what he’s eating I’m hoping to find something he enjoys that is gentler on his belly. We’ve given each option a solid chance for his body to adjust but nothing has worked out so far.

I know there’s always back and forth about the veterinary science diets and the more “natural” options, and in the past we went with the vet recommendation but I’m wondering if there’s a healthy in between that won’t leave me doing a lot of home cooking.

He does really enjoy some freeze dried chicken bites that we use for his treats and seems to tolerate that well. Can anyone recommend a tried and true brand they’ve been on longer term that is more whole-foods based but won’t require the fridge and be a good option for a small Yorkie who doesn’t like his food super hard (he is currently charting to be about 4lb)?

Here’s our sweet boy for the photo tax ❤️

Happy Tuffy Tuesday ❕

We went to my neighbors yard sale and Tuffy got some things. He got a new chair. A nice winter harness and a little retractable leash. All for 25 cents each. The chair was only ten bucks. I'm going to put wheels on it. I also got a new canister and water cooler for hiking for only 3 bucks :-)

Happy Tuffy Tuesday!

What I thought would be a routine “tummy upset” vet visit turned into elevated renal values.
We’re waiting on more tests and have an ultrasound scheduled. Hoping it’s nothing major—just really worried about our little boy. 💙

Today is Vinny's third birthday.

Vinny is what we like to call a "rough character." Possibly a demon dog. We got him from our next door neighbors when he was 9 months old, because they had too much on their plate to deal with a Yorkie puppy. We were actually his third home at that point. He's always been super reactive and I knew they were having issues with him because he was usually tied up in the backyard, barking at everything that moved, including me whenever I went outside to our backyard. I hoped we could make his life better. Haha, joke's on us, he still barks at everything, only he's not tied up, he gets to run around the pool deck because we have a fence. He's hypervigilant, almost always in patrol mode, trotting around checking it all out. Is there a lizard behind that pot?? Are the neighbors outside? Squirrels in the trees? Birds flying overhead? (he fell in the pool at least twice because he was barking at birds and not looking where he was going.) A train going by? A small plane flying TOO LOW? SIRENS? LAWNMOWERS? We live 30 miles from Cape Canaveral and every rocket launch makes the roof vibrate just enough that he notices. He's anxious and sometimes exhausted. He's on Prozac. We have a trainer and a veterinary behavorist.

I love him more than I can say. There are days when he's barking at nothing and everything, when he barks at me because he wants my attention whenever he's awake, and I just take a deep breath and wonder if I can do this. Then I look in his eyes, and he rolls over on his back for his 20th belly rub of the day, or he brings me his toys to play or steals the dishtowel and hides under the bed with it until I trade him a treat for the contraband he's so proud of, I just...love him.

And a 2.5hr car trip! Made the best of a beach getaway despite the weather to celebrate completing his first year vaccines. 10/10 not a fan of the shore and definitely still does not approve of wet concrete/grass but walks in the town and intermittent baby sling rides? Hell yeah.
