Lanterns airing has put me in a bit of a lantern mood and I started thinking about other characters and which corp they could be apart of. For me Zee could be a red lantern. Jamal Campbell’s run last year really hit me how much anger and frustration Zatanna holds inside her and poor Clayface got the brunt of it.

Other than that I could see her been a star sapphire, being a star sapphire isn’t just about romantic love, but all kinds of love and I think Zatanna’s love of magic and stage performances really hit that nail in, and obviously her love for her parents who showed her the stage magician life she’s come to love

I will say when it comes to the prime form she has in context it works for her and i think the giant gold ring behind her kind of makes it her hat in a unique way

Currently I have bring the house down and Zatanna and the Ripper on my radar, can anyone tell me if those are worth picking up?

Plssss give me more Zatanna recommendations, I absolutely binged Paul Dini’s Zatanna, 2025 mini series and I have issues 1-5 of the 2026 series on my desk (I haven’t indulged in issue 5 yet) but I need more Zee books in my collection ASAP. Zatanna has genuinely become one of my favourite dc characters and I need to read all her books lol

It is said that the health of a comic book is seen on its first five issues. Getting sixth position in a heavily contested weeks with two Absolute titles, Batman Bad Seed events starting, and Deadshot first issue, is a strong performance for Zatanna book. I hope it's convince DC to make this Jamal Campbell 2026 Zatanna as a long ongoing and support the team on this lovely ongoing.

This cover for issue 4 was so good it convinced me to pick up all the issues so far lol. I’m not trying to be weird it’s just a great cover imo

Zatanna is my favorite character, but I have to offer some unbiased criticism of the current run.

Last month's issue promised an answer to the question: "What's a Prime Magus?" Given all the hype, I was disappointed to not receive a satisfying answer.

This month's issue introduced the hidden city of the Homo Magi, but it feels lacking. Instead of being unique, it looks like a standard city with Aladdin-style architecture.

Also, Zee's grandma is alive. There was nothing preventing her from going there any time soon. Zatara didn't care to tell Zee about her.

Adding to this, we have another generic magic-based villain.

The comic lacks brutality. I’d love to see a magical equivalent to a Batman vs. Bane fight, but the magic just feels like it just pushes back people instead of hurting them. I wanna see some brutal spells, thugs getting beaten up. I wanna see magically enhanced karate.

She could use telekinesis or other cool powers, but the most I've seen her do is make green lantern light constructs. Her magic makes her look more like a Star Sapphire than a magician.

There is also this problem of Zatanna not interacting with the real world. It's like DC editors have made a rule that she can only be involved with magic related business. Why doesn't she ever stop a bank robbery or stop a train from crashing? Those are real-world problems that people can relate to.

Jamal really needs to raise the stakes or do something interesting because this really feels boring.

Just interested as to what other folks are reading alongside Zatanna’s current run. I can’t handle being up to date on the current series lol so I decided to pick up a few other monthlies.

I’m currently following Superman since the reign of superboys event, batwoman’s current run, absolute Wonder Woman, mark waid’s current JLU unlimited run (just started vol 1) and some non dc stuff like D’ORC, battle beast, vampyrates and the last driver. Im considering starting absolute flash and absolute Martian manhunter as well.

Im also really interested in fury of the firestorm, the new doom patrol run, deadman and aquaman but idk if the current run is a good point to jump in or if I need more context

Has anyone read these? I imagine they’re pretty hard to find in back issues at this point. I’m wondering if DC would ever print a trade with these, maybe in a collection along with “Zatanna’s Search” (also hard to find in trade).

I am planning to get deeper into comics in general and make a huge haul, Zatanna included. I think she looks cool but from what little I've seen of her, her character didn't leave a huge impression on me, personality-wise. I just know she's a magician girl who often smiles. However, I want to expand my perspective and get to know her character.

But I don't know where exactly to look. I know Paul Dini likes her and made comics that fans like, but I need recommendations, names, links and whether they're sold in volumes/omnibuses
