Now, we all know that the stock Exchange guys and CEO's will basically be useless during the apocalypse and die a few days in, however I can easily see doctors being worth more than Gold thanks to their obvious medical know-how, i can also see construction workers becoming important aswell, i mean someone has to eventually rebuild from scratch or fix up husks of buildings, a honorable mention would be barbers, it'll be important to look good even in the Apocalypse right?

Why wouldn’t people just move to rafts and boats that rely on solar to survive? I mean with the use of a vegetable gardens solar and wind energy a water desalination device and an electric motor you could totally just live out at sea correct? I mean I don’t think zombies can swim due to little to no muscle coordination and punctured lungs. plus the zombies would probably completely decompose after at most a few years? I mean I might be wrong with some crucial detail I’m missing or?

I’m a hardcore zombie lover. I’ve watched an unhealthy amount of zombie movies and shows, and one thing that always starts bothering me is how easily governments seem to get completely fucked once the outbreak begins.

Like… realistically, wouldn’t an actual modern government have a ridiculous amount of firepower?

Fighter jets. Helicopters. Tanks. Artillery. Drones. Surveillance satellites. Armies. Naval forces. Bunkers. Biological labs. Nuclear weapons. Massive logistics networks.

And then you have zombies who, depending on the universe, are basically just dead people who bite you.

So I’ve been thinking about this scenario:

There is no cure. There is no immunity. Zombies never stop appearing because every person who dies can potentially become another zombie. And you can’t realistically hunt down every single infected person on Earth.

In that situation, how could zombies actually win against a modern government?

Would the government realistically be able to contain the outbreak by creating massive quarantine zones and essentially exterminating everything inside them?

Would they abandon cities and defend strategically important areas instead?

Could they use air power to destroy major zombie concentrations and then slowly reclaim territory?

Or does the real danger come from the fact that zombies don't need to defeat the military conventionally? They just need the system to collapse through infection, panic, supply-chain failures, overwhelmed hospitals, contaminated cities, etc.

And if the government went completely insane and ruthless about containment, what would the realistic endgame even look like?

Because most zombie fiction assumes the government collapses pretty quickly, but I’m wondering whether that's actually realistic.

What would a real modern government do if there was genuinely no cure and the zombies could potentially keep coming forever?

I want the most realistic answers you can come up with, not movie logic.

As someone who’s always been an apocalypse fantasizer with the “lone wolf” mindset, how do you plan to avoid large factions in the coming years? I know most people avoid building communities out of fear of betrayal but I’d have to imagine that once the initial bottleneck is over many large factions will begin to form.

After a while these factions will have total power over major resource areas, making it impossible to go to for supply runs. Once they become large enough they will probably send scouting groups out, looking for other places or people to raid.

After a while I’m sure you plan to build a homestead of some sort, which can’t be hidden that well. After all you can’t live in your basement forever, and even if you hide in a basement or a cave, these factions would find you eventually.

My plans are to survive the initial bottleneck just with my family, but after a few months begin going around and starting a community with the folks who were competent enough to make it this far. Yes I’d have to worry about betrayal and deal with post apocalyptic politics but that seems the only way I’d have a chance of surviving the whole ordeal, not just the first year or two.

I imagine in the apocalypse that they would be very effective especially given the fact you have the time to practice and improving your aim only issue I see is running out of them and just straight up missing

Once fossil fuels expire, survivors will naturally revert to using livestock for transport. However, as a community grows and begins to rebuild, animals alone won't meet heavy logistical needs.

I believe Wood Gasification is the best economic solution for this transition stage.

Why it works:

Abundant Fuel: Wood is highly available and completely renewable.

Keeps Engines Alive: It allows communities to run existing trucks and tractors without oil refineries.

The Catch: It requires significant manpower to constantly harvest, dry wood, and maintain the systems.

My Question:
For a developing community transitioning from animals, is wood gasification the best next step? Or are there more practical transport alternatives at this stage?

I decided to estimate how many Zs would be around me if the day ever came. My hypothetical situation is that I'm home and everyone within 7 square blocks turn. Each block has 24 homes. 7 squared is 49. And each home as an average of 2.2 people (according to my city web pages). That 2587 Zs in my immediate area. I have 500 rounds of 9mm, 700 rounds of 22, 200 rounds of 308, and 22 arrows.

Besides getting A LOT of baseball bat cardio. How would you deal with this.

My new field/hunting/Zombie survival holster with combined knife scabbard.

It’s taking a little getting used to where and how high the knife handle rides, but I like it.

It’s a reproduction of an experimental holster from WWII that never went into production.

Pros- Knife is readily accessible and doesn’t interfere with the holster or drawing/reholstering the 1911.
Well made. Readily hooks up to many USGI pistol/cartridge belts which accept the wire hanger and slips onto other belts such as Sam Browne type belts among others, using the belt loop.
Flap holster offers superb retention and weather resistance.

Cons- The knife handle is not positioned well for crawling.
The knife handle is not perfectly positioned, depending upon how you normally carry your long arm. It is located in such a manner that your rifle/shotgun may bump into it as you move and make “bumping noises”.
The color is kind of light, but not real bad.

For me, personally, the Cons don’t bother me.
I’m not much on crawling around anymore. I’m 60 years old.
I’m blind in my right eye. I shoot handguns right handed with my left eye. (I’m right handed)
I shoot rifles/shotguns left handed/left eyed. I had to retrain myself to shoot left handed after I lost the sight in my right eye.
I carry long arms left handed, so I don’t have to worry about making noise bumping into the knife handle.

It’s a great holster. I put it on my LC-2 ALICE Pistol Belt. It also fits my M1 Garand Cartridge Belt.

Self Defense Tomahawk

I like axes for really getting into that zombie braaaain, and often opine that chopping down is the way to go but axes have the definite downside that they're not very pocket friendly.. until now!

I'm not entirely sold on this thing, but I think the shape and design for it to slip into your pants are really interesting.

Total ZA kicks in and you successfully survive the couple of weeks/months.

Is boiling the best method of purification? It's probably the safest way to get rid of microbes to kill them off after filtering the water, but with such water concerns, we're going to need a lot of wood. I recall reading the SHTF Bosnia writing, and remember reading how the author would need to tear up houses to use their wood for fuel (for heating as well).

Boiling makes smoke and gives away your location as well... maybe its better to use bleach to kill microbes? You can probably make bleach out of salt water using electricity as well. Better than alerting zombies if they can smell and other survivors

smart zombie the smart zombies have full intelligence they can talk drive use weapons plan but they have a strong desire for human flesh which they have to fullfil there slow slower than walking and if they stay out in the sun they'll rot faster so they have to avoid it and when its night they sleep so you only have to deal with them during the day this sounds easy but remember they can pretend to be dead so if you get near they'll jump you they can drive vehicles to compensate for their speed and will set up traps like putting supplies on the ground so you pick it up than shoot you

mindless these zombies are mindless can't pick up stuff to break windows can open things they are stupid and mindless but there fast wwz fast but will often run in hazards and off bridges also these zombies do not rot so they will not eventually decompose and they dont have to avoid the sun and these zombies do not need sleep so you always have to deal with them and even though they cant open things there strong and go in hordes they'll also spit fluid which can infect

How screwed are we if a zombie virus hits and it just made everyone crave human flesh while still having the same mentality and motor functions of a normal human being. We are talking about zombies that have the ability to recall past experiences with their bodies like riding a bike, can pick up objects to throw at you. Knowing how to use weapons, can open doors, travel in packs with a pack leader, a zombie that can shoot a gun.

Zombies that strategise where to look and find human prey, circling around an area before breaking into a building with their tools and weaponry. With consistently rotting bodies, they are weak physically so these zombies actually do teamwork. They also have their own language and communicate to exchange info.

How screwed are we?

It quickly became my favorite zombie show. I definitely enjoyed the first season more, but was disappointed Netflix canceled it on a cliffhanger. Never got into Z-Nation (stopped halfway through s2), but it's really too bad that of these two shows based in the same universe, the better one (in my opinion) only got two seasons.

My question goes specifically for more underrated places that aren't brought up as often. Im not a regular in this subreddit so I don't know how often this is brought up. But I feel like storage lockers could be so good for both loot and housing/shelter? What would you do?

Elephants could be incredibly useful in a zombie apocalypse. Their skin is extremely thick, even in vulnerable spots like the trunk, where it’s still about two inches. Besides their immense strength, they can swim, climb mountains, carry heavy loads, create large shadows, and are highly intelligent. Most importantly, they produce massive amounts of valuable dung that can fertilize gardens, start fires, or even be converted into methane gas for electricity (thanks to the science from Mad Max 3). An average elephant, covered in real metal armor, could be an unstoppable mount, smashing through zombie hordes and carrying you to safety. As for food, the wild-growing vegetation and plants everywhere should be enough for foraging—unless you live somewhere with barely any vegetation… then I guess... ground cats and dogs mixed with fish food and chocolate bars. I don't know, you'll figure it out.

I’m currently developing a novel where the protagonist actively breaks this traditional formula. Instead of relying on constant raids and scavenging expired supplies, the protagonist decides to start from scratch and focus on actual, sustainable development.

The story heavily explores the logistics of building a functional society focusing on securing raw materials, metallurgy, forging new tools, establishing secure supply lines, and harnessing natural energy sources like wind and water power.

As fans of realistic survival tactics, do you think this shift from a "scavenging/raiding loop" to an "industrial progression" sub-genre is a refreshing take? Would love to get your honest thoughts!

At what point would you think that killing zombies is messed up. Like, some people already cap at TWD zombies. Some people would cap at zombies crying.
So at what point would you think that it is messed up. Im not saying you wouldn’t kill it, just would not have the ability to easily sleep at night.
I would honestly loose sleep at the area where they sob and try to beg. (Ofcourse this is an extreme scenario but technically possible if you keep an open mind)
