The mechsploitation genre is an offshoot of the mecha genre written largely by trans women with heavy inspiration from both kink and Armored Core. So not really a thing in most mecha media, but very much a thing that you could expect in mechsploitation if I understand the genre correctly

not really, this is a niche subgenre called mechsploitation. you'll mainly find that on ao3. most of them take after I believe Warhound which is inspired by the handler dynamic from Armored Core.
Said tool is then plugged into a stronger, faster, harder, more godlike tool, and aimed at a target in the same way a scythe is aimed at any one particular stalk of wheat.
It's basically Armored Core 6 fanfiction where the Handler/Hound symbolism was turned into kink stuff.
In mechsploitation, mech pilots are brainwashed trans girls augmented with cybernetics and sci-fi drugs, with no free will of their own. They're controlled with dopamine implants for kills and are the property of the corporation/empire that owns them. This setup leads to a puppygirl/owner dynamic which is the basis of most of the stories in the subgenre. There's usually a rebel faction and the protagonist is usually a brainwashed former rebel.

The pilots. It's generally about human beings undergoing heavy mental and physical conditioning in order to become living computers for mechs. And then experiencing erotic situations tied to the lack of agency provided to the pilots and dramatics of the dehumanization the pilot experiences.
It's a dubcon or noncon genre wrapped in the trappings of capitalist exploitation and loss of connection to your physical body, that last part is part of the appeal to a lot of trans people
Yes, one of the themes it deals with is systemic oppression of everyone in the system. Even as the handler abuses her dog to shape it into a better weapon, the handler herself is under threat from finances, her own CO, government needing a scapegoat, etc. If you're a rebel it's no better. Constant purity/loyalty tests as strict as the existing power structure's, abuse from other rebels jockeying for power within the rebellion. Everyone is being abused and abusing another because hierarchical systems of power rely on abuse to maintain themselves. Mechsploitation just dials that up a few notches and makes most characters horny (trans) lesbians so the abuse is at least hot in addition to being deeply tragic.
Its weird how one day someone just posted about mechsploitation and said "if you dont know what that is, ask your trans friends" and I did and now it feels like its everywhere in a way that even frequency bias doesnt explain. . .

Mechsploitation feels like an industry plant genre. Zero notable written works, zero notable art pieces, ten trillion tumblr posts about the genre. As if it’s the next pacific rim. Just horny post about gundam like the rest of us
Imma be real if there were more mechsploitation fics about rebels reprogramming hounds I would read TF outta those, like I get it's not the main appeal of the story but it's still an interesting side narrative I don't think has been explored. The idea of rehumanising someone who's been programmed so far outside of the bounds of a person, at least as much as you can, with some Yuri along the way, would be a treat.
