They'd never do that because no one would opt in lol.
I just want clues to stop sending me to the wildy. I dont want the increased loot or xp from wildy content, I'm fine missing out on that. I just wanna do my clues I got from outside the wilderness in peace.
I mean yea, that's the reason such a small portion of the playerbase PvPs and the reason they keep putting in super high money makers w/ low requirements since that's the only way to get anyone out there
I don’t even like to consider it PvP. To me, that implies both players are interested. It’s usually (not always, I understand that) a PKer targeting someone doing wildy content that has no interest in fighting another player.
And that’s also not to say there aren’t players who genuinely want PvP. It’s just a different category and I think sometimes this sub clumps them together.
lumping them together is one of the few aspects this sub gets right about pvp. most players in the wildy geared to PK (outside of bots and gold farmers) are going to attack ANYONE - they're hopping at hot spots in hope of finding other pkers, but they're not going to ignore loot in front of them
I see what you mean, but I don’t think when I’m doing wildy bosses and get attacked inside the caves that PKers are climbing down hoping to find… other PKers. Same as when I’m at the chaos alter. Same as when I’m running wilderness agility laps. Same as when I’m making a trip to the wilderness resource area.
yes, the people hopping at revs, at rune rocks, at agility, at resources area, etc. etc. are indeed hopping looking for fights. it doesnt feel like that if you're only ever there for the resource gathering, but thats 100% what is happening
Then they shouldn’t be in the Wildy lmfao. Unfathomable how hard it is for people to understand how easy it is to catch a freeze and log out. When will people stop acting like going into the Wildy and being attacked is sooo unfair xD
I don’t prefer to always have my head on a swivel or bring anti-pk gear when doing content, so I choose to avoid the wildy when I can. But there’s a wide variety of gamers and play styles in this game, so not everyone finds the ability to freeze and log out as easy as experienced wildy goers.
As for the unfair part, I would like to point out that one side had a huge cctv bot/scout farm that could track nearly everyone running around in the wild. I wouldn’t say that’s particularly fair.
There's mage arena capes, wildy diaries, and all the collection logs for the wilderness bosses as well as dagon'hai, eternal glory, elder chaos druids, revenants, etc. The only optional thing is wildy clue steps.
There can be systems built for a minority of players that are good
(though wilderness depends greatly on an unwilling prey being coerced for the sake of the predator. that's why its bad for people who don't want to engage but "have" to)
I agree with what you're saying (I tried to include that sentiment in the parantheses), just not the literal first thing you said
In that a majority of players not wanting to engage with something doesn't prove its bad outright. i.e. I don't think 51% of players do / want to do a lot of stuff. Like Zuk, complex extensive questing, I think more people do PvM and not skilling, etc.
not necessarily - a majority of people will never complete a raid but it doesnt mean raids are bad content. pking just happens to be above most peoples skill/effort level
Not a bad shout compared to all the crying about being scared to die occasionally while going to high reward content. Wildy only clues that if you get a clue in Wildy, all steps are in the Wildy and you get higher chance of rares or just simply extra rolls on the clue. And then all non Wildy clues don’t have Wildy steps. I don’t know any pker that is interested in killing clue steppers, they don’t risk shit except for the super rare times they have tonnes of law runes on them or something
Yes that part is annoying but people on this sub pretend like dying with their clue is such an issue. With clue stacking wilderness steps are such a non issue. Just open 5 hard clues, drop at a bank. Complete them until you get a wilderness step, then drop and pick up another clue. Do every step you can on the main world then regear for wildy steps and do all of those.
Side note, it's absolutely wild to me that Jagex hasn't made clues always protect on death. Easy fix, hurts no one, and solves a common pain point in the wildy.
Right now the only way to guarantee that you won't lose a clue is to get a clue box (so screw irons) or keep exactly 2 other items in your inventory. Clues don't even protect over spades.
They know no one would opt in. So Jagex needs to stop wasting our time on trying to pretend anyone is interested in being prey for the "risk". The wilderness is grandfathered in the best it will ever be for PKers so they don't actually want any realistic updates. I don't know why the mods want to waste everyones time when we all understand the dynamic.
Yea and that's fine, it should be there for ppl who want to participate. I'm just saying I want them to stop making me go there to finish my clues I got from outside the wildy. Idc what's going on in the wildy after that, I won't touch it either way
World of Warcraft did it for world PvP and it worked well. So less xp and worse drop rates seem good. It balances out anyway because you don't need to be afraid of losing items so can bring best gear to speed up kills.
And since you don't really lose anything by dying you can just play with pvp toggle on and engage in PvP once in a while, if it gets annoying you can go back to a major city and toggle it off. Its the perfect system
In reality, no one world pvps anymore. Not only that, it also causes confusion in the occasional m+ when people show up to the summoning stone with different warmode settings.
If player looting wasn’t a thing and it really, truly was just a ‘sadistic thing for the sake of sadistic thing’ like with WoW I could get behind it, that’s just fun and time wasting, and they prey gets to use good gear
I would take exclusive non PvP works that have reduce drop rates/spawn rates. Reduce clue scroll drops. You can not. switch between worlds while in the wilderness area
The removal of free trade is why pvp in wilderness was removed. The removal of free trade happened because of goldsellers stealing credit cards to buy membership for gold farming accounts. The credit card companies threatened to stop service if Jagex didnt fix it.
I mean I’d be all for it personally but there’s a bunch of die hards out there who PvP nonstop for 20k gp drops who would feel alienated. Not everyone is going to be happy everytime something gets updated but we’d never hear the end of it. subreddit would get brigaded with posts of people screenshotting someone wearing Torva in wildy seething bc they can’t PK them.
Do you actually have any rebuttal to what I pointed out though, or are you just upset about the idea of the wilderness losing even more relevancy than it already has?
No, because you’re absolutely correct. For the average player, opt in PvP would make for a better experience 100%. Especially now that there’s so much other content in the game it really wouldn’t even matter as much. I just don’t see a world where it gets removed again. Especially when it needs 70% to pass.
That was also part of it around the same time yeah. Then the inclusion of microtransactions and evolution of combat a few years later cemented its position as certified dogshit.
If that's so, then that's just a sign that the Wilderness drop rates are broken and must be changed. They're justified by the greater risk of doing content there, but from the POV of the game at large there is no risk - all the loot ends up on the market, whether in the pockets of the PVMer or the PKer, contributing to inflation and devaluing other content dropping the same items
The drop rates in the wilderness are perfectly in line with similarly leveled content. What's broken is the amount of common loot that drops, which could easily be slashed with PVP disabled.
So? Zulrah is braindead and it drops the blowpipe. Normal mode TOA is braindead and it drops the Fang and Shadow.
The drop rate of the voidwaker pieces is 1/912 from the singles bosses which is actually far rarer than all of the other mid-game bosses. Huey drops the DHW at 1/100. Titans drops are 1/75. Zulrah's drops are 1/512. Getting 3x 1/912 drops is worse than Vorkath's meme drop rates.
And by the way, which is it: Is the Voidwaker super OP such that it needs an exceedingly low drop rate or is it just another spec weapon that you can skip?

The only wilderness vote i'll vote yes to is the ability to toggle in and out of pvp with reduced drop rates/xp for being toggled off
