There was a survey not that long ago that asked about the wilderness.

One of the questions was something like "I don't want to feel forced into the wilderness for big upgrades/account progression" to which I answered "strongly agree".

That's encouraging, and I've seen other good things happening with the game (like bot wipeouts).

I'm not totally out of the loop, and I feel kinda bad shitting on them, but that's literally what every Wildy revival attempt has been. I really hope this is different.

I don't want to be forced into learning high level PVM for quests either but I sucked it up and got it done.

PVP is part of the game too. Not one I particularly enjoy, but that's the whole point of high risk high reward is it not?
