Question Barrows grind
I'm a rather new player and I have a question for the community. If moons of peril has duplicate protection, why doesn't Jagex add that to old content such as Barrows? It would incentivize to grind Barrows and actually have some fun, instead of being required to open close to 3500 chests? What are your thoughts on old content which fell out of the progression loop? It's baffling they don't revive or refresh the old stuff.
P.S. I am not deeming barrows dead content

In general, Jagex tries to avoid making sweeping changes to invalidate the past work of people. There's exceptions of course, but they're pretty cautious with such things. Barrows is so iconic and honestly painless that the community is unlikely to ever vote to change its drop mechanism in this way, even if it would arguably be a better system.

Unironically the code for it might be so spaghetti that adding dry protection would somehow make it drop tbow once the clog is complete

I actually didn't hate my grind for full Dharok's. It ended me up with three full sets of Verac's and Torag's and most of the way to the rest of them. I might complete Guthan's at some point.

Duplicate protection is the grand exchange, we have been over this.

I play iron and I agree. I was thinking new players have an opportunity to get dupes of the most expensive items from barrows to sell for some better gear. That is much more satisfying for a regular Joe than getting each piece with dupe protection

The only dupe protection I would be willing to take is giving a full set to the crazy gravedigger man and asking to roll one piece of a set of you choice , that could be kind of fun. I like gambling.

As an iron I agree. We don't need to go changing everything in the game to suit irons, you don't have to green log it and it isn't that hard to get a set

Average green log at Barrows is 1320, having to go to 3500 is superbly unlucky.
Moons has dupe protection because it made thematic sense

Theres 0 requirement to greenlog, and very very few greenlogers will need to open 3500 chests.

Barrows is not dead content and it's great in many places. Not everything needs dupe protection. Just be glad they put it in moons.

I personally wouldn't be against it but...
Several reasons:
It's iconic, some people don't wanna change it.
Some people don't like dupe protection.
You don't need to get everything in the entire game yourself, trading is supposed to fix that problem.
Barrows gear isn't very important, you can just get tank body and legs and leave forever.

Dharoks is fairly important imo. Relative to everything else in that sort of content bracket.

Dupe protection shouldn’t even exist at moons. I’d be far more in favor of getting rid of it there and getting rid of Yama shards. Same at muspah. Way more exciting to just get the drop.

Preach! Drop protection is a dopamine inhibitor.

Jagex thinks they are helping their early player base by catering to them but it’s just setting them up for failure later on when they hit real grinds that you can’t complete in a few days.

u/Alan-Johnsons_Beamer Is that... normal Runecrafting you're doing? 1h ago
required to open close to 3500 chests
That's the thing though, you aren't required to do 3500 barrows runs because you aren't required to complete the log. Barrows still holds its place - it doesn't need revived or refreshed.

The runes are useful even on a main and people still do it for the nostalgia. It’s a great clan event, running around Barrows for an hour.
You’re not forced to green log Barrows and a lot of the equipment is semi replaceable even on an iron. Most irons do Barrows until they get a good enough amount of xp and a few good pieces of gear then migrate to Moons. Nobody is camping until they green log outside hardcore collectors who are probably coming back in max gear.
Even if there was dry protection, Moons is just better in most circumstances so no point to most people.
With Moons , the gear is so integral for so long in the mid game for both account types that not getting dupes until you finish the set I think is a fair introduction to “grinding”. There are plenty of other bosses that will kick you in the face with RNG later on, but that’s incredibly fair when the payoff is a SRA

Barrows dupe protection would be nice, but I think their philosophy of adding things to make it easier is quite popular. Twinflame, strange lockpick, mory hards, medium CAs, etc.

What was the rise of the brothers update all about? The one that made the barrows into barrows 2 or something?

Dupe protection is also spoon prevention. If you're a main running barrows you're forced to get all the crap drops before you can start spooning the good ones again.
Barrows is still relevant but you only really grind for tank legs and MAYBE a tank helm since you'll likely be rocking a nezzy, and maybe a fighter torso at that point for str bonus. Then just greenlog Moons. And if you want a full tank set, it can just be mismatched.

I wouldn't be mad, barrows grind isnt bad but in the moment it's atrocious because you know it's the only thing keeping you from more fun content.

You’ll take your 50k worth of runes and you will like it
