Question Where does the RuneScape community land on the toxicity scale compared to other fandoms?

Just came back to the game after a few years and have been reading through posts on here and ironscape for a few weeks now…

and god damn are some of you guys in the comments some of the most anti social dick weeds I’ve seen in a minute. Just rude, nasty, condescending, attacking people character, name calling, etc. Genuinely think some of you need extensive amounts of therapy.

But on the other hand, there are many people that I’ve run into in game or have seen comments from that are actually helpful and chill.

But overall, I’m not sure if there’s any hobby or game group that I think has a nastier fan base except for the GOAT of toxicity League of Legends. RS’s community seems waaaaay more toxic than MTG, DnD or WH40k.

Thoughts?

Humor Give irons their own condoms

Upvotes

It was very clearly stated that Jagex was not going to cater updates around Ironman

However, every ironman I know has a massive pp, so this is no longer possible

This has created a Frankenstein game where irons are horny, can’t find a condom that fits, and ultimately don’t use any protection.

Having unprotected sex is great for people who enjoy STDs, but the end result is that updates fail to address the fact that Evil Dave has been living in Doris’ basement rent free for years now. We could all have free spicy stew if you grew the fuck up and quit playing with your freak rat collection. Go touch some grass, Dave.

That aside, originally Jagex had polled the idea of Ironman only condoms but they were afraid. Well the community is extremely horny and it’s time for change.

Jagex, it’s time to give irons condoms that fit.

Question I really want to like Sailing, but I just can't get into it. What am I missing?

I'm curious what everyone else thinks about Sailing, because so far I'm really struggling to get enthusiastic about the skill.

I'm not saying the skill is objectively bad. There are definitely parts I enjoy, but overall I keep asking myself what I'm missing because a lot of the activities just don't feel very meaningful or satisfying to me.

Port tasks

These feel like Agility with a boat to me. I'm moving around, clicking things, completing the task, and then doing it again. Maybe I'm missing something about the progression here, but it doesn't really feel rewarding or meaningful to me.

Monster tasks

I actually really like the idea of these. The way they're set up feels good, and this is probably the activity I've enjoyed the most.

My biggest issue is the boat movement. It feels really clunky and unnatural to me.

For example, if I have an NPC like "Jobless Jim" (the one steering the boat) and I'm controlling the cannon, why does attacking a monster not also adjust the boat's orientation? I still have to manually rotate the boat myself.

It makes me wonder: what is the point of having an NPC steering the boat if I'm still effectively doing all of the steering myself?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the mechanics here, but this is one of the things that makes the combat feel more awkward than it needs to be.

Barracuda Trails

These are fun.

For about one or two rounds.

After that, I find them pretty tedious. I can see why people enjoy them, but personally I don't find the gameplay loop engaging enough to keep doing for long periods.

Salvaging

This is actually my go-to method at the moment.

I basically dump the boat, click around, and go semi-AFK. And honestly, I think this is probably the activity that best does what it's designed to do. It's simple, relaxing, and I don't feel like I'm fighting the controls.

Boat upgrades

This is probably my favourite part of the skill.

I really like slowly upgrading the boat and seeing it become better over time. The progression itself feels satisfying, and I especially like that I'm doing this as an Ironman.

Maybe I'll regret saying that later when I'm further into the grind, but right now I really like the idea of having to actually work towards the materials and upgrades myself.

So overall, I feel like there are some genuinely good ideas here, but I just can't seem to get excited about the actual Sailing gameplay.

Maybe I'm missing something that becomes more interesting later on, or maybe I'm approaching the skill the wrong way.

What do you guys think?

What parts of Sailing do you really enjoy?

Is there a piece of content I haven't reached yet that completely changes how the skill feels?

And for those of you who really like Sailing, what is it about the skill that makes it enjoyable for you?

I'd genuinely like to understand what I'm missing rather than just writing the skill off.

Phishing emails are top notch. Be safe with your accounts.

Edit: Guys I’m a very casual player. I hardly look at Jagex emails. I’m glad some of you know the gradient that Jagex uses.

Humor Give Cyclopes their Own Defenders

Upvotes

It was very clearly stated that Jagex was not going to balance defenders around the Cyclopes when they first opened the Warriors' Guild.

However, with how popular farming Cyclopes has become, this is no longer practical.

This has created a Frankenstein minigame where everything from drop rates, token costs, room mechanics (monsters that are already tagged), and off-hand stats has to be balanced against both players and the Cyclopes holding them.

A drop rate of 1/50 is brutal for a player dry on defenders, but it is great for Cyclopes as they get to keep their treasured gear. The end result is that drops fall somewhere in the middle, leaving neither players nor Cyclopes satisfied.

Originally Jagex considered letting Cyclopes have their own exclusive, un-droppable defenders, but they were afraid it would divide the community. Well, the community is about as divided as it can be, so why not circle back to this concept?

Give Cyclopes their own dedicated defenders that players can't loot, with their own stats, and completely cater to that species. That way Cyclopes can wield what they want, and players can keep the game the way they want.

Suggestion Wilderness clue steps should count for two steps

Post image
0 Upvotes

I recently watched the Behemoth podcast where they talked to a dev about the Wilderness clue steps. I didn’t really like some of their ideas, but it got me thinking about how I would fix them. For example, say you’re on step 1 and get a Wilderness step. You complete it, and now you’re on step 3. They’d probably have to code it so you can’t get a Wilderness step as the final step, but I’m not sure not a dev. I think the Wilderness step should really embody the spirit of high risk, high reward.

Discussion Thoughts on Abyssal Bludgeon and Abyssal Dagger getting an upgrade path similar to other slayer drops?

Bandos boots -> guardian boots
Whip -> tentacle whip
Trident -> toxic trident
Boots -> cerberus crystals
Zenytes -> araxxor, maggot king, doom
Arclight -> emberlight
Armadyl armor -> masori
Hasta -> dragon hunter lance

Only things without an upgrade are Ring of suffering and the two other abyssal drops.

Thoughts on a new boss or two to drop upgrade items, especially for bludgeon? Next best crush weapon is Inq Mace which is a huge gap, an upgrade to bludgeon could be significant without overtaking the mace

Dagger I’m unsure what to do with it, maybe better to let it rest. But it’s a cool item so having an upgrade for it would be sweet! What do you all think?

Discussion [Bug] Items deleted from group storage - no update

Items were deleted early Friday UK time. I posted hoping it would get looked at Monday, but neither an ingame message or item recovery has happened yet. Someone commented on my last post saying their friend lost an oathplate set as well so it's not only my team.

Original post:

Deposited items into group storage last night and the game said "Unable to save changes to group storage. Please try again later." The items were taken from my inventory and when logging back on to the game today they were not in group storage either. Hopefully there was an automated system to detect this because it's the first time our group has been affected.

Thankfully the items lost weren't the most impactful, but it is still a loss and slows our pvm down. Hoping to get em back soon.

Discussion A simple change to bring PvP to life

I believe there is one thing destroying the entry for people into pvp, and it's standing under/tree hugging.

Whether or not it has counterplay, it is an inherently unfun experience. Its impossible for new players to deal with. It also forces you to use things like renderself or plugins, which is silly for 3rd party plugins to be mandatory for being competitive.

Dont remove freezing, just make it so you cant stand under someone frozen that youre in combat with.

I've played this game so long its just something ive always accepted, but it was when my wife was watching the last dmm tourney she said "its pretty fucking dumb that they just take turns stepping under each other". And it's so true, its unfun, horrible to watch, and makes the new player experience impossible in pvp.

Im sure alot of the comments will be about how its easy to counterplay, but thats not the point, its just not fun, in any way. Its just a bad design, and bad designs can be improved even if they've always existed.

Discussion I don't understand PKers

I get why somebody might PK at a wildy boss. They require gear, sometimes people will get greedy and even bring good gear on them for faster times. But it seems as though the most PK'd spots in the entire game are Wildy Altar (where your reward is 30 Dragon Bones), the Black Chins Spot (where your reward is 30 black chins) and the Wildy Agility Course (where, admittedly, there is some real loot because people take long trips because this was a well designed piece of content). The distinguishing detail is that these are 3 areas where people are risking the minimum possible amount of gear, giving a PKer the minimum possible upside. So I'm trying to understand what would infest a person such as to think "I'm going to spend my night making other people's lives marginally worse for functionally no gain of my own". I know I opted into doing this content in the wilderness. I know I have alternatives. I know this extra risk/reward is the entire mechanic. Why are people being such griefers about it?

Discussion colosseum - budget learner tbow setup for cheapskates / rebuilders

*edit* clearly I should've titled this something different lmao I'm aware that using a tbow isn't budget, it's just meant to be an otherwise cheap setup to reduce death costs

so i recently did a tbow rebuild, and although i've since made a ton of doom money i still like doing colosseum in budget setups because i haaaate death fees (esp if you're low on cash post-rebuild) ... so here's a semi-budget tbow rebuild "guide"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gwb9UnXOpyI - a sample run

setup, death fees, remaining supplies after run

but why

like i said, if you literally just liquidated your bank and have a tbow + not a lot else or if you're learning and don't want to shell out half a mil every time you die, bringing a cheap setup has a lot of merit

  • pros
    • cheap death fees (~45k)
    • dps is still better than bowfa + full crystal
    • ranged is easier to do than melee
    • lotta supplies
      • lets you use arma brews to pot for your main dps weapon, so it's like you have 5 extra brews
    • tbow big number - 1 shot the mage frem!
  • cons
    • sol dps could be better

setup notes

as you can see, this is a very low death cost setup using ornament kits, i'll list out some things you could consider below

  • tbow + deadeye + arma brew 1 shots the mage frem, sgs + piety + spec 1 shots the ranger
    • so important i'm saying it again, tbow is awesome here
  • don't rely on protect item as you're taking blasphemy 3 100% of the time
  • sgs value comes out as ~32 mil so you can protect 2 items more expensive than this
    • ayak is bis for non shadowers, but normal trident 2 shots the zerker frem too - difference is 2 ticks during frems so make your own judgment
    • nox hally lets you do the combat achievement plus saves a slot (ditch defender)
      • if you take nox hally, you NEED to take at least myopia 1 or you're griefing your sol
    • masori (f) top / bottom could be considered, good defense + dps increase
  • ornament anguish is a decent dps increase and is free, i just wanted another restore
  • the tank gear + dinhs is for emergency runs, you can ditch for more brew or more sol dps
  • blood fury won't be protected but is quite strong, something to consider if you're consistently getting to sol and want some nice passive healing

invocations

most guides cover them but i'll do a quick tier list

  • instaclick, max out if possible
    • blasphemy, myopia, volatility
  • some amount is ok
    • solar flare (2) - probably the ideal 4th invocation with 1 point in another in this category
    • doom (1-2)
      • i killed my first sol on doom 2 but this was my 6th one, dunno if i'd recommend
    • frailty (2)
    • relentless
      • the better you are the more you can take, also very good sol invocation as your defense doesn't matter
      • kills your tank gear though
  • ehhhhhh (maybe a round or 2)
    • manti-mayhem (1-2, bring a sanfew if you go to 2)
    • reentry (1)
  • bugger off
    • everything else lol

boring dps calcs

https://gearscape.net/calculators/dps?preset=04e98674ab

here you can see some dps comparisons between some setups

  • base budget tbow setup
  • tbow + anguish
  • tbow + anguish + masori top / bottom
  • bowfa full crystal + anguish
  • budget setup + tentacle whip
  • budget setup + nox hally
  • full oathplate + saeldor
  • full oathplate + soulreaper axe

as you can see, the base tbow set is comparable dps to the melee sets and equal / better if given anguish + masori on a lot of the mobs

it also handily beats bowfa + crystal on everything that matters (meleer should never really touch you so dps on it doesn't really matter)

2 way switch to tent whip is not bad for budget gear and i ended my fight with 2 restores and 3 brews left while also taking a tank set i didn't even use - lot of room for improvement!

random ending stuff

original first colosseum post, for posterity (the origin of my penny pinching colo ideology) - https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/s/fqwGZHimYa

feel free to leave comments, questions, suggestions and i'll edit my post accordingly if i see them

Question What keeps one-time items like prayer scrolls from dropping to close to 0?

I've always wondered, with one-time per account content, like the prayer scrolls, how come they are not worth close to 0 now.

Since they have been available for a long time, I assume by now most of the existing accounts should have one. There is no reason to buy a second one, right?

Does it mean that new accounts are created all the time to keep the price up? I would expect by now that the supply and demand to be way off.

I got an email that my account was imported to a new jagex account. Quickly got in contact with support and had my account returned 48hrs later.

When I logged in all I had was a mudskipper hat on and a chunk of coal?

My bank PIN was deactivated but as far as I can tell I’m not missing any valuable items. I still have my Abby whip, obsidian set, graceful set, 7m in the bank.
