Me again..

As I build out the models for the 4runner im taking a significant amount of dimensions. Ive noticed that I cannot find a legit dimensional drawing anywhere for example the solid front toyota axle. I.e. dimensional positions of shock mounts, tube diameters etc. Being that im building these models in solidworks it is possible that I could in theory produce engineering drawings (to a degree) for this stuff. It would me nice to know for example the angular position of the leaf spring mounts against the yoke flange of the differential.

The only problem is that, as most good engineers will tell you..Building out dimensional engineering drawings that are actually useful to the people that will need them take a significant amount of effort and time.

Im also considering videoing my shenanigans with the 4runner as I go through this mess.

Side tangent-

My background is machining, prior to engineering and when I reverse engineer something at work I approach laying out every part from the position of a machinist (22 yr old engineers with 6 months of experience either love or hate working with me).

1 point of interest I plan to 3d scan the factory fuse box and lid, however I will not be using it. I am relocating all electrical inside the cab, deleting the wiring path behind both fenders and installing 2 Mil-Spec Bulkhead connections in the firewall. I will be designing a new fuse lock for the interior or brackets to use with an off the shelf fuse block that will be compatible. The only engine wiring required by me for the diesel is engine temp, oil pressure, coolant temp, rpm, and boost(boost will hit a solenoid that i plan to map into the turbo light on my cluster like I did on my last diesel toyota build 13-15 years ago. Its cool to see that light come on when you hit 5-7 psi

Loving every single update to this. This is fantastic work, especially for people who would want to make their own reproduction parts (me) and modify significant portions virtually without touching their rigs.

Likewise. There are very distinct design flaws to these trucks and my plan is to address as many of those as I can with mine. The engine bay wiring being a major flaw. Ive had a LOT of toyotas and I have found that the egress locations on the firewall are a honeypot for rust to begin. And structurally speaking this is one of the most critical areas. Which is why I plan to address this by converting to Bulkheads and moving whats left of the engine bay fuse block under the dash. I am NASA/MIL/IPC certified on Wiring Harnesses and electronics.
