Mod Announcements The Daily Megathread
Welcome to The Daily Megathread - r/50501's home for daily discussion!
This megathread exists so that you can post reactions, images, or anything that might otherwise belong on our sister subreddits r/ThePeoplesPress, r/LiveProtestUpdates or r/50501ContentCorner. While the main goal of this megathread is to prevent protest announcements from being drowned out, we also want to give our community a place where they can discuss things that would otherwise not be allowed as a post on r/50501.
Comments that may be appropriate for the daily megathread may include, but are not limited to:
- Discussing current US or world events
- Sharing personal opinions on politicians/political parties
- Other posts that may break the "Call to Action" rule or our rule on related content, which otherwise wouldn't fit at r/ThePeoplesPress, r/LiveProtestUpdates or r/50501ContentCorner
As a reminder, news threads go to r/ThePeoplesPress while videos go either to the People's Press or r/50501ContentCorner. Posts that are on the ground reporting on a protest must go to r/LiveProtestUpdates. If you have posted there, or if you want to share a post from another subreddit, you are welcome to link it here!
Remember that subreddit rules still apply, especially our commitment to respectful discourse and our commitment to citing our sources. If you claim something true, prove it - and don't attack the person behind the claim!
If you have a question about how our rules are enforced, please check out the wiki page on our rules for more information! For additional questions, please send us a modmail.

Movement Brainstorm What do people think of using "Don't Look Up" as a call to action on this climate emergency?
Hopefully, everyone has seen the movie "Don't Look Up." The scary thing is that it is happening right besides us. Throw in the movie "Idiocracy" and it pretty much nails where we are right now.
Why don't we see lots of bumper stickers that say "Don't Look Up"

Organizing Tools Spreading info and motivating for protests
I'm working on designing some method of spreading information around my town, as well as encouraging people to protest, about issues such as the Epstein Files, ICE, Flock cameras, the hangings in Mississippi, ect. The problem is I can't decide if a flyer/poster or a sort of card would be better to make? The posters/flyers would be larger, and I could put them up around town so more people could see them. But with the card (maybe like a sort of double sided one page zine?), I could make a lot and leave them in public places (parks, libraries, ect) so people could take one or more) and spread them around. Or maybe both?
Human Rights In 2023, the United Nations special rapporteur on torture determined that “direct contact electric shock weapons” are “inherently cruel, inhuman or degrading,” and recommended that governments ban them outright.
And here are 2 documents from the United Nations:

Call to Action We all gotta sign the petition dudes!
The ACLU trying to get as many signatures from Americans on this petition as possible, because they’ll be using it to lobby members of congress to vote against the SAVE Act, showing them that most Americans don’t want it.

Call to Action Goodbye Google Maps
If you haven’t already, now’s a good time to send a message to Google that collaborating with this authoritarian regime is not something that consumers will overlook.
If you use chrome, switch up to Firefox or something
If you use Google Maps, switch to Apple Maps
If you use Google search, use Bing
Etc
Google is such a massive company idk if it’ll make them change their behavior but if nothing else it will make other companies think twice
No business should be done with corporate collaborators
