The real panic was when you couldn’t get it out of the tape player.

A couple times mine got twisted *somehow* and I had to take the case apart to untwist it.

See, when that happened to me I always just went to K~Mart and stole a new one.

Imagine the crushing agony when you go into your car in the summer and find all your tapes in the shoebox, melted and warped from heat.

A #2 pencil to wind the tape back into place, place into tape deck, then listen to the crinkled part of the tape before it sounds normal again.

It was devastating. Especially knowing that mix tape forever to make and there was only 1 copy.🫣

i remember on the boardwalk in ocean city nj in the early 90s they would have bootleg U2 cassette tapes of conerts some of them costing 300 plus dollars. Times have changed.

I went to a few 'record shows' back in the day and I wanted sooo much bootleg stuff, but prices were ridiculous.

The shop was called tunes on the dunes. It has since closed down. But man the prices for some stuff was crazy

Sometimes I could replace it unless it was a homemade mix tape.

Oh, the memories.

I was meticulous about cleaning my player's capstan and pinch roller, but I still had the occasional tape eaten. What a nightmare. Pull it out and it looks like a zigzag. ... assuming you could get it out at all.

This is fixable. Now if this happened to an 8-track tape, you were pretty much screwed.

Even worse is when it breaks the tape inside the player.
It can be a bitch extricating the broken tape!
