Ok I took my vyvanse and I’m ready to knock out some of the highest priority, most time sensitive things on my to-do list. Hang on, my brain is telling me I gotta cut up this paper into squares for four hours real quick.

This reminds me that I'm supposed to be registering an LLC, but I keep putting it off because I hate forms and paperwork.

Ha! I created an LLC to do consulting and then just let it die a slow and terrible death since I could never bring myself to figure out taxes and tax forms for it, plus you have to do it so often

Damn. You don't have a constant rate tax for having a business over there? It's like a third of minimal wage a month over here.

Learn about the force and become a Jedi like my father instead of taking a shower

Ok, but for real, it's like this. If you don't want to do a thing it does not matter how difficult or important the thing is. Your ADHD mind will dedicate everything it has to any possible distraction, regardless of difficulty.

I got into a habit of chasing the smallest possible distractions so that I fall back to the thing I need to do as quickly as possible. So I do dumb things like getting up to check my 3d printers every 15 minutes, even if the printers are not running, because it's a tiny distraction from the email I should be reading.

I procrastinate the thing I'm supposed to be doing with something else I've previously been procrastinating.

This ☝️ Like trading one evil for another.

I caught myself talking to someone on the phone I didn't want to, and I had been putting off cleaning. For some reason, I started to clean and was completely good with it. Not sure about the mechanics on this 😅

Is there a mechanism that explains this? Is it that folding laundry is not novel, but something else is?

Folding laundry is easy, repetitive, boring. Not really anything mentally stimulating about it. No stimulation, no dopamine, no motivation.

See also the hundreds of "learn kanji with this fun app!" produced by weeaboos procrastinating from learning the language.

As an owner of an LLC with nothing to wear, can confirm.

Sure I could tidy, or I could practice ready for an extra gig as a tour guide

And after 2 minutes it's like "Nah, I've lost interest."

me when I have to play my game but instead I go eat something or clean around my apartment who’s already ok…. but then I forgot I had to play my game who’s still on but I’ve forgot to play.

No kidding. I've done this. You feel so accomplished until you realize you haven't even touched the thing you were supposed to do

I literally did this and now i sell rocks to hippies for profit.

I sold a woman a fossilized poop pendant for energy healing

Edit:i did look up all the agreed upon powers of the stones beforehand. I didn't go making shit up that wasn't already part of the belief system

I used to feel bad for folks who got “swindled” like this.

But these days, if you let yourself be separated from your money that easily, it wasn’t going to do you much good anyway.

Plus, they’re not the brightest bulbs in the socket 🤦‍♂️

Except when you figure out the perfect business for your interests and experience, so your brain tells you everything in the house needs to be laundered instead

I hate cleaning the bathroom and doing the dishes, so instead I went hiking and made a website to document nearly 300 different species of mushrooms I found. I have a couple hundred more to post, but the hyperfixation ended. So instead of cleaning the bathroom I completely demo’d it and remodeled the whole thing including replacing the subfloor and tile, and building a custom medicine cabinet from an old dresser mirror I got at a yard sale.

So funny story. I did this. My business was so fun and cute and lasted a few years before I decided to close it after my second kid was born. 😂

Holy shitballs, I opened a business this year on an adhd motivation wave. It's still alive, so I guess it ain't all bad!
