Bug Can't run Metroid Confrontation on Windows 11
AM2R works fine, but Metroid Confrontation is stuck on a startup loading screen, even ran compatibility on Windows 7/8/XP and still doesn't work.

The AM2RLauncher is a frontend tool for installing the AM2R Community Updates and community mods, as well as creating APKs.
The version number 2.3.0 is for the Launcher, not the game, which is currently on 1.5.5.
Windows and Linux: https://github.com/AM2R-Community-Developers/AM2RLauncher/releases/latest
Flatpak / Steam Deck: https://flathub.org/apps/details/io.github.am2r_community_developers.AM2RLauncher
A complete backend refactor disguised as bugfixes and features with your daily dose of splash changes! Includes some neat QoL features mostly related to the Steam Deck, and fixes some random Deck installation/runtime errors.
Flatpak users will be prompted to reinstall their profiles when this release hits Flathub due to some of these changes; your saves will be fine, this is just a reinstallation of the executable files.
Full changelog is on GitHub as usual.
Our endless quest to make an auto-updater that doesn't break. Merry Halloween.
Windows users will see a console app open for the recovery tool to take over updating 2.2.0 to 2.3.0.
Nothing we can give many details on. Art progress continues to be slower than we might like due to people having real lives, but we're taking the opportunity to do other cool things with the game in the meantime.
It looks like Skippy the Bot has been ported to Flathub!
If you're not familiar with Skippy the Bot, it's a GameBoy-styled puzzle physics platformer starring the controllable robot from the Industrial Complex. Outside of Flathub, it can be found at DoctorM64's itch.io page for browser, Windows, and Linux.
Please check our FaQ before commenting. Odds are high that you can find an answer there.
If it's not in the FaQ, we're more than glad to answer in the replies, on the Official AM2R Discord Server, or on the Official AM2R Matrix Space.

Hello all! I wanted to cover a couple news items formally as most of these things are worked out on Discord and aren't condensed into one spot.
We do not provide public estimates of completion time, but things are generally proceeding well. That said, our desired timeline is something of a lofty goal with our current resources. As such, we are still keeping an eye out for additional help with environment art (tilesets and backgrounds) and sound effects (field recording, foley, synthesis, cleanup, etc.). If you're a talented pixel artist or audio engineer with interest in contributing, come throw me a DM on our Discord server.
New around here? 2.0 is a full overhaul of the game's graphics and sound effects along with some other changes we're not quite ready to discuss yet.
I recognize that this is unfortunate news to many players, and do sincerely apologize for the loss of platform support. Two major factors have caused us to make this decision:
1) Android is losing 32-bit application support, and while there are possibly methods for us to develop a 64-bit version of AM2R for Android they are still somewhat theoretical and require development and testing resources that we do not have available on our desired timeline for 2.0.
2) Android is turning into a walled garden like iOS. To develop an application that can be installed on most devices, we would have to tie ourselves into Google's verification ecosystem and play by all their rules. This is something we are keenly inclined against for both ideological and technical reasons.
This means that development efforts on 1.6 and related technology will not be continued. All our energy is going into 2.0.
I think that's all we have to provide at this time. I will be monitoring this post for any questions, related or unrelated to the above topics. Thank you all for playing AM2R!

From what I understand I need to charge a shinespark in the pipe on the left edge of the screenshot, then somehow shinespark through this wall to get to the next step. However, I can't for the life of me figure out how to get into position without wasting the shinespark charge. Even when I jump though the breakable blocks I slam into platform and lose my charge. Please help.

Just found out that if you play am2r through RetroArch it gives you true emulator-style save states, just like Zero Mission in mGBA if you use the AM2R Libretro core.

Ever since the Flatpak version stopped receiving updates, with no announcements made whatsoever of a future update, I tried out the GTK version from the Github.
It doesn't work.
I have version 1.1 and everything, but I need to know how do I make it work.

Holy. Shit.
This is fucking fantastic! I have been on a metroid kick and trying to play the games I never got around to beating now that I have a steam deck. Played through NEStroid using metroid planets, played some prime remastered and decided to play this instead of samus returns on 3ds.
If you wouldnt have told me this is a fan game I wouldnt know the difference. its damn fantastic. It plays extremely well, movement feels great, combat is fun, exploration is fun, and im finding new things that were not in the original game like the little guys on the metroid corpses that fly to these weird skull things with bat wings, No idea what thats about but looking forward to discovering. Oh and the music is great too!
Its amazing Nintendo is letting this live. Its on par if not better than their other 2d metroid games.

First run, I played blind, checking under every rock, bombing every wall, floor, and ceiling, wall jumping to get to places I shouldn't be at yet, spider balling across ceilings for great lengths of time only to be knocked down by some stupid flying thing that can somehow move behind the terrain I'm rolling on. Fighting bosses involved slowly adapting, with metroids being unpleasant to fight because I can't fire at a 30 degree angle or have a step to aim from. I was only missing a few things and looked up a map where I stared at every pixel, compared to the in-game map, trying to find what was missing. Was baffled by that shinespark puzzle in the upper right where I needed to see a video to learn that you could re-store your shinespark if you mash down as you hit an uphill slope. I felt stupid, thinking only that crusty rocky part on the top of the queen's head was the only vulnerable part, because of course you have to aim at something annoying.
Second run, I learned there was a launcher with more updates and could play in widescreen and New Game+ that let me explore without linear quake unlocks, so my fusion mode run was that way with those thick plant things and those apparently friendly bug creatures that sink into the dirt without protest if you stand on their heads. It was miserable. Everything could kill me, enemies knocked away more than an entire tank in one hit, and struggling against bosses like the Torizo only to die to the COVID thing that pops out because it has more iframes than normal enemies. I unexpectedly ran into progression issues by trying to go to areas that needed power bombs or super missiles and forgetting I could go around the weird bubble pillar things. I watched some videos and learned I could kill the Tester with a single power bomb.
I went back to normal NG+ for my last run and I felt fairly invincible, damage boosting my way through some bosses, skipping past save points and killing multiple metroids while I tried to quickly navigate and collect my stuff. I still got turned around a couple times, but it felt like a pretty efficient run. Maybe I could have shaved off 30 minutes if I knew exactly where I needed to go at any given time, but I'm not sure I could do a sub-two hour run for the best ending at 100%.
I'm going to take a break from the game, but I'm curious if anyone has some general advice to speeding up my runs in general. I get that I could just copy a speedrun video, but that doesn't sound horribly fun, and I can't even consistently jump morph spiderball onto a wall, let alone do crazy shinesparking every 5 seconds. I'd like to just play it casually without wasting time.

I would assume it has to be 32-bit. (Is 1.5 64-bit?) Would the 1.4 series take up less resources? Trying to breathe some life into this old hardware.

Hi everyone, sorry to bother you, but I'm stuck downloading the game. It tells me to download AM2R_1.1.zip, but it's not showing up in the folders. If anyone can help me, I'd really appreciate it. 🙏

What happened to the AM2R flatpak? It seems it's been taken down. Can someone link to the active version?

I firstly played through it and collected everything, and damn was it fun, especially getting to think about how to get certain collectibles.
They really nailed it making a good remake of the original game (even though I never played it)!
I also really love the music in this, it’s very atmospheric and well made.
I probably gonna write a review about the game on their discord server
I also probably gonna watch an M:SR Playthrough (I don’t own a 3DS) because I want to see if the games are really that different.

Have PC saves? Bring them in! Now the Android port supports backing up and restoring your android and PC save slots without root!
Some smaller optimization fixes, android handhelds will feel this change the best due to changed image scaling to compete with WinNative emulation

⚠️ YOU MUST PROVIDE YOUR OWN COPY OF am2r-1.1.zip IN ORDER FOR THE AUTOPATCHER TO WORK ⚠️
This autopatcher aims to allow android devices running on arm64 to play am2r natively by matching the latest version supported by the AM2R Launcher (1.5.5 release).
99% of bugs have been polished out however if you ever run into any issues please submit it in the "issues" section or DM me. You must have a screenshot of the bug, the android version you were running and what device model you are playing with.

[THIS IS AN UNOFFICIAL FAN PROJECT]
⚠️You can stop asking for an apk, I literally cannot provide it. 1.5.5.3 has been deprecated. If you want to update to 1.5.5.4 you need your own original copy of AM2R 1.1⚠️
After porting AM2R for my Pixel the project sort of got out of hand with the engagement, thank you for everyone that asked. But since I've received word from the CU developers I was rightly advised to stop distributing a full apk of the game.
If you've used AM2R Launcher before on the PC, this works the exact same way. You MUST provide your own AM2R 1.1 copy and it must be the official release, you'd know where to get it. Just drop the 1.1zip and it will hand you an installable apk for AM2R 1.5.5.4 fully compatible with Android
FOR THOSE THAT STILL HAVE THE 1.5.5.3 APK: you have to first build the 1.5.5.4 apk through the patcher with a 1.1 copy if you want to update your game
Again, if any issue surfaces just let me know, I'm still around to patch out things in the game

This is a native android port I built for myself. Not an emulator, no compatibility layers. I simply took the source code of the Community Updates and compiled it into modern arm64 architecture. It's a playable app

+ extra photos, things to fix are camera behavior so it's not always centered on Samus (which reveals hollow floors) and ui text being in weird sizes
Technically playable? Maybe, but I'd need to play it all the way through

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Trying to port 1.5.3 using Gamemaker 2 beta. Still some kinks to work around. But i could theoretically play the whole game through like this

I was interested in this game, because I wanted to play some more Metroid. I had already played ZM, SM and Fusion.
For this game, I immediately started in Hard Mode and managed to get 97% on my own (I had to look up three items at the end). That last battle kicked my butt. Actually, every Metroid kicked my butt in some way.
Good Lord, this was phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. The gameplay felt great, the new ideas were awesome (though I doubt some of those would ever appear in an actual Metroid game), the music was good, the graphics were great.
Some liberties were taken, but those were liberties that were worth it.
If I could, I would give it an 11/10, but unfortunately, that would cause a stack overflow. So let's keep it at 10/10.
