Announcements Introduction of rule 7 and enforcement of rule 6

Hello pet owners and helpers!

The subreddit is growing quite rapidly, and with the recent influx of AI and bot accounts, we believe it’s time to pick up the pace in fighting against these.

Rule 7 has been created.

This new rule will be enforced as of today and retroactively. In other words, it means that from now on, AI-generated content as well as bot accounts can be reported and will be removed.

Users that exhibit potential AI or bot-like behavior are exposing themselves to being banned.

Removal and ban may be appealed in mod mail by sending us a picture of your username and current date written by hand. Please rest assured that everything sent this way will NOT be publicly displayed. We will always respect and value your privacy.

Rule 6 about fundraisers and signatures has also been updated.

to reflect this new anti-AI/scam/bot policy, we will now ask users to add to their submission a proof of authenticity in the form of vet bills. We also encourage you to provide the same kind of proof that we ask for rule 7. (The latter may be sent in mod mail if you would like this to be handled privately.)

While we are conscious this new stand against AI and bots may result in a more tedious process for you all, we also believe it is a necessary measure to further prevent scams and protect users from these.

Please be careful and make sure the cause you’re about to donate to seems legitimate enough.

A new post flair will be added to indicate when a ‘Petition/Crowdfunding’ post has been verified to help you in your generous endeavors.

As always, thanks you so much for making this community safe and welcoming! ♥️ We are counting on you to report rule-breaking content, ideally without escalating things in the comment section.

Petition / Crowdfunding [verified] Our pom’s leg was bitten off by our neighbors dog

I am the son of Jean, I have already posted my version of the story here on reddit on my profile, and now i’m here to share my mothers story as she is the one who witnessed this horrific event. This post now also has his Xray, and all of his bills attached. The itemized receipt from the surgeon/vet ER is still ongoing since Dash is still with them so we do not have the full PDF just the estimated $5,000 for that part of the bills, the others which are in PDF form are completed receipts.

This is Dash. He’s my 4-year-old Pomeranian, my baby, and my little shadow. He is one of the sweetest dogs you could ever meet. He loves car rides, giving kisses, going shopping with me, and getting attention from absolutely anyone who will stop to pet him.
Sunday evening, I let Dash into our fenced backyard to use the bathroom, just like I have thousands of times before.

I stepped inside for a moment to grab some water. When I came back outside, I saw Dash near the back fence and thought he was stuck. He wasn’t making a sound. I ran over and saw what looked like his paw caught between the fence boards. I could hear the neighbor’s dog on the other side of the fence and could hear its owner calling for it.

I pulled the fence board away to free what I thought was Dash’s paw.
That is when I realized his front leg had been ripped apart.

I was in complete shock. When I looked through the fence, the rest of his leg was lying several feet into the yard of the neighbor directly behind us.
I picked Dash up, ran him inside, wrapped what was left of his tiny arm and applied pressure to stop the bleeding while screaming for my son. My son grabbed my keys and wallet and drove us straight down FM 2499 to the first emergency vet we could find.
Dash never cried or yelped. He just looked terrified and in shock.

The first ER stabilized him, redressed his wound, started pain medication and discovered that his trachea was also collapsing. Because of his breathing, he had to be placed in an oxygen chamber before they could even safely take X-rays.
Once he was stable enough, we were transferred a few minutes down 2499 to another emergency veterinary hospital that was equipped to perform the surgery he needed.

Monday morning, the surgeon confirmed that Dash’s injuries were consistent with a bite. There was also significant concern about bacteria from the bite, dirt and fence debris contaminating the wound.

Although his leg had been torn off around the elbow, the damage was so severe that the surgeon had to amputate his entire front leg from the shoulder.
Dash made it through surgery, but he is still hospitalized. Right now he is off oxygen, but he is still very groggy, has not started eating, and the veterinary team is adjusting his pain medication and monitoring his breathing closely. We do not know yet when he will be able to safely come home.
As of Tuesday, I have already paid $8,875.86 in emergency veterinary expenses, and that amount continues to grow every day Dash remains hospitalized.

I have drained my savings and my credit cards are nearly maxed out, but I cannot bring him home before it is medically safe just because I am running out of money.

My son (me) has created a GoFundMe to help with Dash’s emergency medical bills. He is also adding documentation, including veterinary receipts and one of Dash’s X-rays.

This has been by far the most traumatic thing Dash, my sons, and I have ever experienced. Dash went from being safe in his own backyard to suffering a horrific injury, losing his front leg, and being hospitalized away from home. I cannot even look at my back door without seeing him at that fence again.
Flower Mound police were contacted, but we were told this is a civil matter. If anyone knows a pro bono attorney who may be willing to advise us regarding Dash’s medical expenses and the safety issues involving the fence, I would also be incredibly grateful for that information.

Right now, though, my biggest concern is getting Dash through this and getting him home safely.
If you are able to donate, any amount truly helps. If you cannot donate, sharing this post could help us reach someone who can.

Thank you to everyone who donates, shares, prays for Dash, or helps us get his story in front of more people.

Petition / Crowdfunding [verified] Save Luna: She Needs Us

Luna's GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/166ae8716

My cat Luna is one year old, and honestly she is my family. In August (on her birthday), Luna started vomiting on and off for days — and then it turned serious. She started vomiting blood and had bloody diarrhea. I rushed her to the emergency vet, where they ran bloodwork, took X-rays, gave her fluids and anti-nausea medication, and sent us home with stomach protectants. That visit alone cost over $2,200.

We thought we were past it. But Luna is vomiting again, and upon ultrasound vet flagged possibility of IBD and lymph nodes in her digestive tract. They are also flagging cancer possibilities. This means ongoing monitoring, an ultrasound, biopsy and likely long-term treatment and diet management.

I've already spent everything I have on her care so far, and my pet insurance has denied the claim, calling it a "pre-existing condition" — even though her own vet documented this as a new, unrelated flare-up. I'm appealing that decision, but insurance can take weeks, and Luna needs care now.

I'm asking for help covering:

  • Emergency and follow-up vet visits
  • Diagnostic testing (ultrasound, biopsies, bloodwork)
  • Ongoing medication and prescription diet as I am asked to put her on which costs $150-$200 for 3kg bag
  • Any additional treatment her vet recommends

Luna is scared, I'm scared, and I'm doing everything I can for her. Any amount helps. Thank you for reading, and for caring about a little cat you've never met

Petition / Crowdfunding [verified] Needing help with emergency vet visit (Athens, GA, US)

Hello, I usually lurk Reddit and don’t really post but due to my cat being unwell (as well as it being my fault), I’m doing all I can to get him the care he needs. My cat ate a stray Ibuprofen pill and took him to his vet for help. They gave me a treatment plan and amount which I provided proof of. They do require it upfront and after paying rent, I don’t have anything outside of $100 on me. I tried Care Credit and other lines of credit but haven’t had success. I also signed up for multiple organizations but I no response quite yet and they tend to require you start the process but payment is required first. If you have the time, please take a look at my request, any little bit helps and it goes straight to the vet through Waggle: https://www.waggle.org/campaigns/help-eren

Thank you for your time, sorry if my post looks crazy. I did add a quote here too.

Petition / Crowdfunding [verified] Helping friends after their 2 year old cat Onix was rushed to the ER for a urinary blockage

My friends have a language barrier and aren’t familiar with managing or setting up a GoFundMe

https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-onix-recover?utm\\_campaign=natman\\_sharesheet\\_dash&utm\\_medium=customer&ts=1788218513&utm\\_source=native\\_options

Onix suddenly developed a urinary blockage . With in a few hours, he had to be rushed to the ER because he was barely responding. The vet had to relieve the urinary blockage. He's recovering slowly and he's moving around now. The unexpected emergency bill has put a significant financial strain on their family of 4. The $4,499.99 emergency bill had to be financed. They couldn’t imagine losing a member of their family, but taking on this unexpected expense has been difficult for them.

So this is Harley, she’s 7 and belongs to my wife’s mother who I’m not going to bash here and no one else should either thank you. But I will with luck be taking her and I already own one puppy who will tear this off of her:,) i genuinely feel for her, the first picture is from today and the second is from three years ago! The mass has no impact on her quality of life and such other than the one eye most likely drys out, so I’m hoping it’s benign.

I’m not rich and I already take in lots of sick reptiles as I’ve done rescue since middle school (21 now) so if anyone else has removed a mass off an older dog I’d really love to see what estimations you had or if you had to put them down. I would prefer not to put her down as I just put down my pups mom a few months ago due to a genetic condition.

Hi everyone,

I am facing a severe emergency and am desperately trying to save my 2-month-old Persian kitten. She was admitted to the hospital on August 23 weighing only 1.4 kg (now down to 1.3 kg) due to severe respiratory distress (open-mouth breathing), a high fever of 102.2°F, and severe vomiting.

She has tested positive for FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis).

She is currently fighting hard and responding to daily intensive therapy, including Remdesivir antiviral injections and oxygenation. However, her diagnostic tests (CBC, LFT, KFT) and ongoing hospitalization bills have mounted to ₹17,700 (Cash Memo No. 806). As a student/independent owner, I have completely run out of funds to support her continued critical care.

To ensure 100% transparency, I am NOT asking for any personal cash transfers, UPI, or money to my personal account. I am strictly seeking direct-to-clinic sponsorships.

If you are able to contribute even a small amount to keep her alive, you can contact the hospital directly to verify the case and clear a portion of her bill:

My account is empty .

Any small amount paid directly to the clinic helps buy her more time. Thank you so much for reading.

Help Urgent

Urgent: Stranded Student in Gurgaon Needs Emergency Medical Help/Advice for 2-Month Kitten (Neuro FIP, Pale Gums, Extreme WBC)"Hi everyone, I am a student living alone in Nepalpur, Gurgaon. I am completely broke and have no vehicle. My 2-month-old kitten was recently hospitalized for a major respiratory crisis and dehydration. I have her blood reports: her WBC is dangerously high at 120.10 x 10³/µL and she has been diagnosed with Neuro FIP.She is currently eating and playing, but her gums are completely pale white with a blue tint. I had to stop her oral Doxycycline because it made her severely sick, and I know she is at a huge risk of a relapse without an antibiotic cover.I desperately need advice from anyone in the Gurgaon/Delhi NCR area. Are there any local FIP support groups or volunteers who have leftover supplies or can help me find a cheap/free mobile vet who can look at her? I cannot afford a private clinic package anymore. Any help, volunteer transport, or guidance would save her life."

Petition / Crowdfunding Please help us care for a mama and her 5 babies

Thumbnail
gallery
81 Upvotes

This stray had 5 kittens in our backyard on 8/23 and when my mom and I went to check on them all 5 were open mouth, tongues out, heavily panting due to how hot it was. We were scared they were going to die from the heat so we took them inside and trapped mama. Thankfully the cool air helped immediately! Mama was terrified and barely came out of the hidey cube we put the babies in. Now she is doing SO much better and has been so affectionate and seeking out pets. I was able to buy a playpen for her and the babies and as you can see she’s very happy with the kitchen mat (originally in front of the litter box I got for her) that we put next to it.

We already have 5 indoor cats, our dog, and on top of that we have a small colony of about 10 stray and feral cats that we feed wet and hard food everyday as well. And unfortunately in our county in GA, TNR is illegal and there are only a handful of rescues that are completely overwhelmed, which leaves us with very few resources (despite how bad the stray cat population is) and even the lowest cost spay program is still close to $100 per cat. We have spayed and rehomed 3 of the more social strays so far but everything comes from our own pocket and honestly, I can barely afford it as is, now we have mama and 5 babies that in just a few short weeks will be needing food and litter boxes too. But our only choices were either contact local animal control (not a no-kill shelter and they are overwhelmed with intakes as well), take them in, or leave her and the babies outside to fend for themselves in the heat. Our choice was definitely more of an act now think later response because we care too much, but now I am scrambling to figure out how we're going to afford this in the coming weeks. My mom has severe nerve and vision damage from shingles so the only income comes from me working full time, doordashing on the side, and what my disabled little sister gets from SSI.

I created these wishlists to help with the cost of extra food and litter for her and when the babies get bigger, food and litter for them too, and anything extra would also help with the colony we feed. So far mama loves Friskies hard food so I tried to put a variety of sizes for those. We’ve started giving her Fancy Feast wet kitten food for the extra nutrients too and she seems to really love it. Google recommends nursing mamas get about 9-15oz of wet food each day and she seems to agree with how quickly she eats each can, so they are going quick. I added some food/water bowls (using plastic cereal bowls right now, I know it’s not a great choice because of feline acne but it’s all we have atm), an additional litter box for the babies, a small scratcher for mama and the babies, and some toys for when they’re bigger but of course those are just some nonessential blessings! I’ve also attached a Walmart wishlist, if that’s not allowed I can absolutely remove it, I just noticed there were better deals for food and litter than Amazon.

Thank you to anyone who is able to help us, mama, and her babes (we believe there’s 3 boys and 2 girls)! We are also open to name suggestions for mama. She’s very sweet, has unbelievably soft fur, a bit of a floofy tail tip, and a creaky little meow like an old lady ❤️

I know my Amazon and Walmart wishlists probably look extreme. I want to say right away that I do NOT expect anyone to buy everything on them. I keep different foods, litter, kitten supplies, carriers, cleaning supplies, and other necessities listed because the needs change constantly. I am truly grateful for ANYTHING that is sent.
I also want to say how incredibly blessed I feel by the support I have already received from people in this community. Some of you have helped me more than once, shared my posts, sent food, or simply encouraged me to keep going. I don’t take any of it for granted.
Cat rescue has become a huge part of my life. I work around 50 hours a week for very little money, and outside of work I spend so much of my time feeding community cats, trapping for TNR, transporting cats, taking sick or injured cats to the vet, helping with kittens, finding fosters and homes, and helping other people in my community who are trying to care for cats they cannot afford.
We have very little help in my area of Somerset Kentucky, I am working on getting my 501(c)(3) established because I want to build something that can continue helping these cats long-term.
TNR alone requires us to travel long distances because affordable services aren’t available close to us. I have made trips to Lexington and Bowling Green, both around 1 hour and 45 minutes each way, and even Cincinnati when necessary. In August alone, we were able to get 15 community cats fixed, and we already have more scheduled.
Then there are the emergencies that never seem to stop. Sick kittens. Injured cats. Testing. Medications. Follow-up appointments. Cats needing dental care. Cats dumped outside with nowhere else to go. I have raised money toward many of these vet bills, but I have also covered a lot of the expenses myself when donations weren’t enough because sometimes there simply isn’t time to wait.
Food is honestly one of my biggest worries. Without the cat food donations I receive, I genuinely don’t know how I would keep all of these community cats fed. There are too many depending on me every single day.
I am also linking my Facebook because I don’t want anyone to simply take my word for what I do. Please look. Scroll through my posts. You will see the cats, the TNR trips, the vet visits, the kittens, the fosters, the food going out into the community, and the people and animals we try to help. I want everyone who supports me to know where their kindness goes.

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/1C5KnLLBGe/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Please never feel like you have to spend a lot. A case of wet food, a bag of dry food, litter, kitten food, or even sharing this post helps more than you probably realize.
The need right now is urgent, but more than anything, I am grateful. I could not continue doing this at the level I do without people willing to help these cats alongside me.
Thank you for believing that these little lives are worth fighting for. ❤️

Help Heart worm prevention suggestions?

Hello everyone!
Does anyone use just heartworm preventative on their dog vs the combination flea/tick/heartworm preventative? What do you use?
This is a long post, but I have a 5 year old female Boston Terrier and for the last 6 months I have been giving her Credelio Quattro. I have nothing against the brand, but for days after taking it (with food) she got an extremely upset stomach, so I’m looking to switch. Our vet didn’t have alternatives and didn’t suggest just a heartworm preventative.
Personally, I don’t see the need in her taking something for flea and ticks. She has never had them and doesn’t go to places she would get them. Now, I do take some precautionary measures such as spraying my yard for bugs and if we happen to go somewhere I am unsure of, she is checked and bathed just incase. It is also worth noting she is a very very sensitive girl. Her hair is very thin (her underside is bald; not a vet concern) and she has to have medicated weekly baths, has to have steroid shots before vaccines, and no food changes. She is truly an allergic reaction waiting to happen and I wonder if the combination preventions are too much for her body to handle.
I completely understand this is probably way out of the norm, but if flea and ticks were a concern, I would absolutely put her on it.

Does anyone use just a heartworm preventative or does anyone give this in a separate pill from flea and tick? What do your dogs seem to do well on?

Petition / Crowdfunding [verified] Please Help me and my mom pay off Archie’s Vet bill

Thumbnail
gallery
168 Upvotes

Hello! My name is Lexi and my Archibald suddenly got severely sick. I had to find a vet that could work for our financial situation but the bill still came out to $1,062 which is still so overly expensive for us. My mom is the one who mainly pays every expense so this is a lot. It’s only us and no one else can help support us financially. Archibald (Archie for short) is a sweet, well behaved, and silly little cat. She loves to eat chicken and sleep on the couch with me. Seeing her this weak and unable to consume anything has been so hard on us. I’m only asking for $600 because I understand it’s a hard time right now and over a $1,000 is a lot to ask. Please even a share would mean so much to us. Here is the Gofundme link: https://gofund.me/2e941726e

update:
Hello everyone, I’m so utterly devastated that my sweet baby is no longer with us. Honestly, I don’t even know how to put into words how much it hurts to even write this out. She was a loving, silly cat. When you would pet her, she would put her paw out to ask for more pets. When you had chicken, she would stand up. Like, literally actually stand on her back legs and reach out her arms as if she was going to catch it. I’m so freaking sad, I can’t even explain how bad I’m mourning her right now. She was only 2 years old, dude. The vet wasn’t even able to tell us what was really going on with her. We got a call at 6 PM, and the doctor told us she wasn’t getting better. I’m sorry if this doesn’t make sense, but I remember her saying her kidneys and liver were not improving, which then led her to saying she recommends euthanasia. My mom didn’t want to euthanize her and wanted to pick her up so she could at least die comfortably at home. We called back the vet 10 minutes after they had called us, which unfortunately somehow she died right in between those minutes of us making that decision. They told us she started seizing, which then led to her passing away. All that we are left with now will be having to pay the vet bill. Thank you so much to everyone that has donated or shared my story. I truly appreciate any previous/on going donations or shares from here on out. I honestly don’t know what else I would update to this post. If I can manage to get the funds for cremation, I will share on here for those who have supported me and read my story. FYI, I just wanted to say the donations towards my GoFundMe is solely going towards the vet bill, not cremation, since I don’t want information to get mixed up if that makes sense. It will be kept up because as I said all that we are left with is the bill so any help is truly appreciated. i will show a picture i took of her paw while i visited her one last time after she passed. this is very precious to me. my fond memories of her include so much of her communicating through her paws. Thank you for everyone’s kindness and support. I hope this all made sense please tell me if you have any questions.

Me and my sibling have been struggling with emergency vet bills and making a gofundme me is our greatest shot at being able to pay for it. Just a week ago our beloved cat Garfield passed away from kidney failure after having to go through so much at the emergency vet. And now the next week his son Ralph has to be Hospitalized at the emergency vet for a urinary blockage. The bills are more than we can handle. Any help would go a long way. A year ago we also had to go through with our kitten, Sally, being but down from brain damage and being unable to breathe. I’ve never asked for donations before so this really is a last resort I have come to. The photo I have provided is Ralph’s bill. That is all we need help with now after having to pay for Garfield’s bills. Go fund me is in the link below…

Petition / Crowdfunding [verified] Help our cat Stuart recover from severe Triaditis

Hello, we’re Daniel & Daniela from Colombia. this is Stuart, our 2.5 years old cat, he suffers from Triaditis, Leukocytosis and Kidney Stones, a severe disease in cats that affects both liver, bladder and pancreas by an excessive inflammation, in our poor cub’s case, it is mostly derived from serious pancreatitis and an episode of kidney stones.

On August 16th Stuart constantly cried and lied down, when we took him to the ER they told us he had a case of kidney stones and got a tube so he could pee.

We bought prescribed food and thought that if he just ate, that would be the end of it, sadly, his appetite plummeted and we were pushed to force feed him with a syringe, after running a hemogram and an ultrasound, we found that aside of sediment in his bladder, he had triaditis, mainly caused by a serious case of pancreatitis, this forced us to shift our focus from his bladder to deal with his condition.

Issue is, between the initial hospitalization, the new food, and the new detox therapy he's currently going to undertake, we are quickly running out of funds. This fund is therefore, for his treatment, we have already covered 3 days of treatment and still scrambling by to get enough saved up for more days.

Any penny, any dollar, counts even if just a little bit, it buys us at the very least, time, time to figure out where to get more money to borrow, and most importantly, time for Stuart to receive treatment and hopefully get through this tunnel, because for as much as we hoped we could stop and just sell our things, save up, get another job, that takes time in 2026, and Stuart health can’t wait, it won’t wait for someone to buy our furniture not for them to review our applications.

Your reposts, shares are also deeply appreciated. Thank you, kindly and from the bottom of our hearts, for making it this far.

Here's the link to the GoFundMe , i'll try my best to answer your questions, if you would prefer to donate through other channels, please PM me and we'll see what we can do, though i would prefer for your ease of mind to use that channel.

If anyone here would have any advice please chip in. I can’t believe there’s no legal reprocussions for this monster, but I want to make sure I do as much as I can to stop others from getting hurt.
