My teacher has us reading the textbook called “A History of Western Society,” eighth edition. I have a lot of trouble focusing, especially on texts, does anybody know if there is an audiobook that I can find for this text book? I am having a really hard time finding one.

I’m a junior and this is my first AP history class, and the only other AP I have is lang. Im still kind of nervous since this year is the first year I’ve had AP’s. I’m not a big history person, I would much rather have AP Pre-Calc or AP Chemistry since I’m better at those subjects. I do realize I’m not the best when it comes to studying, though. So I’d like to know how to optimize my time to studying and memorization. I don’t do any after school activities anymore so I have around 5 hours to dedicate to the class. My teacher is chill and seems genuinely nice, he seems to usually go over slides since most of the class is seniors who have taken APUSH already. Generally, what should I expect from this class and how do I prepare for it??

Hi, I'm an incoming sophomore and am enrolled in AP euro. I have a pretty demanding schedule but the class I'm the most worried about is Euro. I start school in a few weeks and was wondering if there was anything I could do to prepare in my already minuscule amount of free time. I've been pretty busy with others things but with my life winding down, is there anything I could do to at least slightly prepare myself?

History can be pretty hit or miss for me, like in eighth grade I didn't do so extremely well at US history, but my freshman honors history (world + geography) class with a very hard teacher, I did shockingly well.

(It's also probably worth it to add that I do love history and euro really does interest, hence why I decided I would hopefully do well since I'm at least a little niterested in the subject)

I’m currently a rising junior who plans to take AP Euro, AP Environmental Science, AP Seminar, Spanish 3 honors, Math Data and Financial Literacy Honors, enc1101(dual enrollment\[hybrid\]), and amh2010(online). My school is a little out of the ordinary so a normal Monday/Thursday for me would be 1st period for an hour and 30 minutes, followed by an 8 minute break, and then 3rd period for an hour and 30 minutes, lunch(30 min), 7th period for 45 minutes, and lastly 5th period for 45 minutes. The same applies to my even classes on Tuesday/Friday with the exception of Wednesday being all 7 periods. Now with that being said, since I have 2 periods that aren’t on campus I don’t have a 5th or 6th period meaning I leave school at 11:45-12:15 A.M. as opposed to 2:20 P.M.

I understand the rigor behind all of these courses (I’m on the fence about AP Euro) but I honestly want to pursue the AP Capstone Diploma to use as a safety net just in case I don’t get a 1330 SAT Score and unable to receive 100% bright futures. I’ve heard from a peer that the AP Euro teacher teaches well, they seem to enjoy her class, and they speak highly of her. \[They ended up getting a 5\]

I apologize for all of the extra background information.. here is my real question :

Is it realistic to want to take AP Euro junior year with no previous AP history experience? I’ve taken AP Psychology on FLVS my sophomore year due to a poor quality teacher, but I had to write very tedious notes, read the textbook, and ended up with a level 4. I had an 115% in my World History Honors class that I didn’t find very challenging, but I feel as if our teacher held our hand to long.. we would take 2 days to do group DBQs and I only remember doing 2-3 the entire year. I did enjoy learning about the French Revolution, Haitian Revolution, Scientific Revolution, and Absolutism in World History and is part of the reason why I’m leaning toward AP Euro. I was never a big history enthusiast since it felt regurgitated to learn the same U.S. History, but “this time they give you a little bit more information than when you were younger” I was sick of the redundancy and wanting something more.. is it this schedule entirely realistic? Are there any skills that I need to be confident in before entering? Please let me know, and tell me if you have any advice or tips for me going into this year. Thank you.

for a first ap, how challenging is euro? my school is super strict on aps as an underclassmen so euro will be my first one as a sophomore. i have the option to switch to hgap, which is a easier class. however, euro is obviously showing more rigor so im not sure if I should make that switch or js stick w euro. im pretty decent at writing and comprehension, but im kinda slow and bad with timed things 🫩

AP euro was my first AP and I wanted to share what I did to get a 5!

For starters, I tried in class. My teacher followed chapters from a textbook instead of AP units, so I would attach it to units and identify what unit and subtopic we were on, and would watch heimlers for that topic & unit. Thats how I got an A in the class and had a baseline for all of the course.

When it came time to reviewing, I gave myself i think like a month maybe month and a half. I paid for the heimlers review guide and note guides and I would review for each unit and topic, do the MCQ, and send an info dump of the whole unit to AI and ask it what I was missing. Repeat for every single topic and take overall unit MCQ's.

I also did every practice FRQ I could find, had AI grade it, and rewrote it til I got it perfect/missing only one point

Now, what ACTUALLY helped me the most came from my teacher but is also available online. My teacher called them anchor dates. Basically, just go to quizlet or whatever else and search 'AP euro anchor dates' and MEMORIZE them. I had extra time before the test began and was able to write like ~50 events and each unit and what date it centered on before the MCQ started. This helps TREMENDOUSLY with info recall because I can connect each thing to a unit. +was especially helpful on FRQ's to pull outside information from. Just come up with something from the same time period/unit, tie it back to thesis, and boom.

Also, just remember FRQ's are just based on rubrics. Just memorize the rubric and fill the checkboxes. Doesn't have to be eloquently written, just sufficiently show your knowledge and capabilities.

What also ended up being useful was noting what we didnt study in class and self studying it. Like 1-2 days before the test I refreshed myself on every art movement/style, and covered women's involvement from beginning of the course to the end. Ended up helping me write 2 KILLER FRQ's because I remember niche facts that we never covered in class.

Bro ong I got a 5 in AP Euro but I started studying 3 days before. But for AP WH I got a 4 but knew much more content from the start and thought the exam was way easier. I think what happened is my DBQ for AP Euro was crisp (prob 7/7) but my DBQ for WH was cheeks (5/7). So if you are taking a AP history in the future, the DBQ is really the make it or break it. Wish someone told me this before.

Go to the samples and learn the structure for DBQs and memorize rubric. Practice like 2 DBQs and one LEQ structure. That’s all you gotta do.

To preface this, I was taking APUSH this year and also self-studied AP World in my sophomore year (I also took normal World as a class at this time, making it significantly easier to self-study). I didn't glance at the course until April when I realized I was cooked.

1. Set up a timeframe by unit/in your study way

First, I decided I was going to study the course chronologically instead of thematically, but whichever way works for you go for it. If you're taking the class, do it whatever way your class does to make it easier on yourself. I also did it my own special way (meaning I focused heavily on how I'd wrap the work around reading/writing bc i'm not a visual or auditory learner). This meant buying the AMSCO textbook on Amazon. I got a used version (order early!). If you study better another way, find that resource in a way split up by unit (1.1, 1.2) or by theme(economy, politics, culture)

1. Study by unit/theme and self-test regularly (DBH reference in the big 26)

I studied by unit, so I went 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc. I was able to do each sub-unit in about 15-20 minutes because I read fast, but I always made sure to do the MCQs in the book after. If you're doing it with videos, find MCQs online. This website is good:

I also reviewed after each unit with the wonderful Emily Pool who is so cool and underrated. Her videos were honestly pretty short and super informative. After each unit, too, I made sure to remember 10 vocab words that I could use for LEQ, SAQ, and DBQ. Stuff that stuck out to me, not necessarily that I had to memorize. Another reason why Heimler might not be the best here: I'd recommend Crash Course with the GOAT John Green for review as well. For example, I mentioned in my LEQ about the Industrial Revolution about women working telephone jobs bc that stood out to me as interesting in the book and I also wrote stuff in my APUSH LEQ (5) that I remembered from Mr. Green's videos. Uncle Tom's Cabin. I felt like a founding father on tha LEQ

1. Don't focus on review

If you're in the situation I was in, don't review that much. Only once worked for me. If you're studying thematically, make a chronological timeline in your head. Write it down. If you're studying chronologically, figure out the progression thematically and when things occur. Remember marker dates.

1. Final tips

I guess this shouldn't be like a bulletpoint (Numberpoint?) but my final tip is to make it fun. AP Euro was super fun because I watched hella Oversimplified and Crash Course and made fun little drawings in my notes of all the historical figures (no joke). The more fun it is, the faster it'll pass. I studied for this while I studied for 4 other AP tests so you can definitely do it!!!
