One thing about moving around Abuja is that most route knowledge lives inside people’s heads.

If you already know the city, you know where to enter, what direction to ask for and where to change.

But if you are new to Abuja, starting work in an unfamiliar area or visiting somewhere for the first time, na questions full everywhere:

“Where do I enter?”

“Will I need to change?”

“Where should I stop?”

“How much should I expect?”

I started building RouteMi in July to make this information easier to find.

You enter your starting point and destination, and RouteMi explains the available shared commercial transport journey, including where to board, change and alight.

I am also adding Abuja train routes and weekday timetables for journeys connecting areas such as Abuja Metro, the Airport, Idu and Gbanzango.

Coverage is still growing, so I need help from people who actually know Abuja:

• Which routes confuse people the most?
• Which boarding points are difficult to explain?
• Which route should I research next?

Looking for good 5 or 7 a side pitches

So I posted yesterday I think, or the day before wondering what project my organisation could do for Basic Education and Literacy month.

I thought about creating a small reading space in an orphanage, somewhere children would actually enjoy spending time.

The idea is to set up a cosy reading nook or room 🤷🏾‍♀️ with books, a couple of bean bags, a soft rug, and a bookshelf. We'd also give the children notebooks and stationery so they can write stories, draw, or reflect on what they read. We'd spend the day with them, read together, have a spelling bee or storytelling session, play games, and share snacks afterwards.

I know we'd need permission from the management and would follow whatever regulations requirements they have before doing anything.

Do you think this is something that would have a lasting impact? If not, what would you improve?

Also, if you know of any government orphanages in Abuja that would genuinely benefit from something like this, I'd really appreciate recommendations or contact details so I can reach out to them properly.
