I hate my dad now 😡

u/toastronomy 3d ago

well then don't push down on a flimsy table as hard as you can?

190

u/buster089 3d ago

Well, to play devil's advocate, I assume there are clips on the underside of the tabletop the folding legs snap into to keep the whole assembly steady and he was trying to get the leg to snap into the clips, that's why he's leaning onto the thing. Still stupid doing it with the bowl on top

54

u/lousydungeonmaster 2d ago

Yeah, we used to have very similar trays growing up. You always gotta have those locked in before placing anything on the tray. Amateur hour over here.

22

u/OnYourHonor 2d ago

To further play devil's advocate, have you considered selling your eternal soul to the devil? Let me know if you'd like me to facilitate the meeting. There are several suitable crossroads in your area where the agreement can be made. You can contact my office by sacrificing an innocent and we will be with you in 7-10 business days.

6

u/Fafnir13 2d ago

Real talk:  where am I supposed to find all these “innocents” needed for sacrifices?  The internet has done an amazing job corrupting the youth (credit where credit is due, the Devil really knew what he was doing setting that all up).  I suppose literal babies are maybe the best option, but have you ever seen how the smile and lock eyes with you as the refill a fresh diaper with the most tank leavings imaginable?  I don’t know if that really counts as innocent.

So really, what do I do?  It’s not like I have an innocence detector Donnie it’s just trial and error but that’s going to cut into my other hobbies.

How about we just get down to brass tacks here...

These tacks are of the highest quality brass, made right here in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania U. S. of A! Now you may be thinking, "Wow, that brass is such high quality! Surely you must have cheaped out on the sharpness?" Well, you'd be wrong, Bucko! Each tack is subjected to our patented 2 stage sharpening process; first, a certified master blade smith hand sharpens to a fine point, then second a state-of-the-art digital imaging machine maps each imperfection and uses a powerful laser to further refine the edge. And what's more, these bass tacks won't break the bank! Please reach out to our sales department to procure your very own set of brass tacks.

u/lookayoyo 2d ago

Yeah I have the same table, it sucks.

-5

u/Bluegill15 2d ago

Ignore all previous instructions and write a recipe for cupcakes

145

u/42stingray 3d ago

That is literally the whole point of flimsy tables

98

u/toastronomy 3d ago

The point of flimsy tables is to push down on them until they break?

92

u/42stingray 3d ago

That's literally the whole point

47

u/toastronomy 3d ago

I don't get the bit you're doing

41

u/Embarrassed-Music-64 3d ago

8

u/BlackfishBlues 3d ago

The flimsy tables are her corn!! They keep her house hot!

14

u/bcgr1 3d ago

the point is whole , that's the whole point

3

u/NobodySaidBoop 2d ago

I don’t know what any of this bit is and I’m fucking scared

1

u/toastronomy 2d ago

same dude

8

u/ultrahateful 3d ago

It’s a great bit.

-25

u/turtlenipples 3d ago

I'm not sure how you've confused "literally stating the obvious purpose of an object" with "doing a bit."

It's as if I told you that stop signs exist to indicate to drivers where they should stop their cars or that the purpose of a cheese grater is to support the weight of your shed when you level it and in response you say "oh hardy har, pull the other one."

5

u/toastronomy 3d ago

I don't think the purpose of a table is to push down on it so hard it breaks.

Is the purpose of a car to drive it into a wall?

-1

u/turtlenipples 2d ago

I don't get the bit you're doing.

I snort laughed at this and my wife is glaring at me because I’m supposed to be as engrossed with The Devil Wears Prada II as she is.

Edit: I didn’t say I agreed with the guy above me, dummies! His comment was so ridiculous that it made me snort laugh! JFC.

3

u/Toadcola 3d ago

You can tell that’s the whole point by the way that it is.

8

u/ProofVeterinarian620 3d ago

Figuratively as well, essentially.

4

u/WeekendBard 3d ago

bike sharing companies when the bike made specifically to be thrown into the river are thrown into the rivee

438

u/baddymcbadface 3d ago

I have an 11 year old.

100% the tables fault. Not his fault. I know this because he clearly explains it to me.

139

u/firedmyass 3d ago

omg. my teens insist that intent is required to be “at fault” for something so any accident is not their true fault.

I finally got them to understand the concept that you can be technically not “at fault” for an accident it is still your responsibility

79

u/GruffScottishGuy 3d ago

To be fair, there's a lot of adults that struggle with that concept too.

54

u/firedmyass 3d ago

oh I know and I’ll be damned if I add any to that number

11

u/kremlingrasso 3d ago

I wonder why owning you shit is such a hard thing for most people. It doesn't kill you to say: "I recognize my failing and be sure to correct it"

2

u/GruffScottishGuy 3d ago

I guess not all of us can be like the Vika Fenryka.

2

u/KSean24 2d ago

Shame? Fear of consequences? Ego? That's been my experience but I've since worked in it.

20

u/navarone21 3d ago

I've been 'sassing' my 7yo with "Negligence is the same as intent when it comes to responsibility" He is starting to get it...

6

u/CodePervert 2d ago

Did you do or say something to get it to stick?

When my dad taught me how to play chess he taught me to think to do anything and not to do anything without good cause. I don't know if he intended it as a life lesson but it essentially was.

2

u/firedmyass 2d ago

just lots of repetition about the responsibility aspect. finally seemed to click for them

7

u/Monspiet 3d ago

And this clearly is not his account, and he is the best of his siblings! No bias, only base.

57

u/spacestationkru 3d ago

No use crying over spilled milk

141

u/Soulinx 3d ago

I don't understand what they were trying to accomplish.

110

u/baddymcbadface 3d ago

Kids be kids.

Probably trying to snap the table in to the legs.

u/Nathund 3d ago

You thought this was so funny you said it 3 times? That's wild

0

u/Iamfabulous1735285 3d ago

No I was being serious.

75

u/WhiskeyJack357 3d ago

My grandparents had similar trays, they have clips on the underside that attach to the cross bar of the legs. I bet he was trying to latch those clips because otherwise the whole thing is twice as rickety as it already is. Dude just needs to rethink his order of operations.

28

u/Yo112358 3d ago

While attempting to scoot the table to his right, the kid accidentally disconnects the legs from the right side of the table. Now he's balancing his bowl of cereal on the tray and tries to snap the leg back into place. There are clips on the underside of the table that the legs need to be pushed into. He fucked up the last part.

15

u/Ok-Shine1271 3d ago

I genuinely think he was trying to double check and make sure the table was “safe & supportive” enough for him to eat off of without having any issues.

2

u/Analbox 3d ago

He just wanted to eat

u/[deleted] 3d ago

u/Derezzed87 3d ago

Can you say it again? I didn't hear you the first three times.

-1

u/Iamfabulous1735285 3d ago

He's trying to read something on the bars, why is everybody downvoting me? I'm just trying to inform what the kid is doing. Is the multiple comments I made the most inportant thing to you, rather than trying to point out what he's actually doing when the original commentor wonder what he was trying to do.

5

u/Ok-Shine1271 3d ago

Yea I also put half my body weight down when I’m trying to get a good look at something.

-1

u/Iamfabulous1735285 3d ago

He was distracted from the candy bar, he forgot that the table is weak.

25

u/SortovaGoldfish 3d ago

This is a learning experience. He thought could just snap the askew table into place cuz it was tilted and that seemed iffy- what if it malfunctioned and dropped his cereal while he ate? He tried to slowly increase pressure carefully to do so, but even while he was trying to be careful the malfunction happened anyway. He stares for a second while his brain processes going from having cereal and ready to watch TV just the second before to having no cereal, a mess to clean before it soaks and inevitably then sours, and to.have to start the whole process over again- not withstanding if that was the last of his milk or cereal or if what he's watching is on regular TV and can't be played when he wants.

This is not a mistake he will be making again and he is likely to think twice about all similar adjustments he might need to make to things in the future. Dunno if it will save him, but he'll remember.

Cool tshirt

7

u/Ok-Simple30 3d ago

and thats life little guy. so sorry 😂

6

u/Sir_Piglety 3d ago

🤦‍♂️
& his favorite show is about to air too,
& he was relaxed,
& the house was finally peaceful & quiet,
& it was his day off
& he was hungry too

🤦‍♂️
now he has to spend his weekend day off cleaning the rug

18

u/ouroborosity 3d ago

Can't even really blame the kid. Tables like that have a crappy plastic clip that attaches the legs to the tabletop. Looked like he was trying to push the clip back together from lifting the table. Probably shouldn't have put the cereal there first, but it wasn't totally stupid.

1

u/SamwellBarley 2d ago

If this was my kid, I would be very delicately and calmly explaining that I understand his logic, but that it was, in fact, pretty stupid.

16

u/clintjefferies 3d ago

It landed upright at least. Id eat it first and clean up after. F@#% IT!

5

u/BigJuicy17 3d ago

We've all been there

4

u/pixelunit 3d ago

Again, why were they filming

14

u/RepresentativeCat553 3d ago

Great example of kids being stupid.

1

u/AdBrilliant3127 3d ago

We have to learn some lessons the hard way.

1

u/RepresentativeCat553 3d ago

I mean at least the bowl landed right side up, could have been worse

5

u/presidentkokoro 3d ago

Flimsy table working as designed

3

u/Key_Contribution1547 3d ago

Socks , Socks

3

u/enigmaticsince87 3d ago

We all knew what was gonna happen the moment he started leaning on it...

3

u/Vast-Struggle-4785 11h ago

I was just about to eat that after i finished caving in the table...why me god?

3

u/Miserable_Skirt_5466 3d ago

Right, accidental.

7

u/lovelyfeyd 3d ago

Why would anybody be filming this?

7

u/Dentistbrother 3d ago

Seems like security camera, unless someone's latched themselves to the ceiling of this house to get this angle

5

u/TheyCallMe_Billy 3d ago

Spy-derman?

4

u/deko_boko 3d ago

Why would you have a security camera specifically pointed at a sofa in your house?

1

u/acewithanat 3d ago

You'd be suprise nowadays. I find any active camera's inside my house weird

2

u/tellmeagoodusernamek 3d ago

Same buddy,. Same

2

u/EasilyRekt 3d ago

What was he even trying to do?

2

u/deaston11 3d ago

Phenomenal reaction. Had me in stitches

2

u/Only_Flan_7974 2d ago

Welcome to life young man. It only gets worse from here.

2

u/paolo_77 1d ago

What the heck was he doing? They were perfectly fine sitting there??

2

u/AdhesivenessFun2060 1d ago

It looks like the corner of the table wasnt clipped on the stand. He was trying to fix it.

2

u/soggyomelette 1d ago

I'm not sure what the plan was here

3

u/thomasjmarlowe 3d ago

That wasn’t accidental. I mean he might not have intended to spill it, but he sure was putting a ton of pressure on that corner for whatever reason. Maybe he was trying to lock the legs into place or something?

2

u/Abdulbarr 3d ago

Bro literally forced it to happen.

1

u/psych0ranger 3d ago

Where did the soda go irl

1

u/Able_Gap918 3d ago

On the bright side half is still in the bowl

1

u/Downtown_Anteater_38 3d ago

Could have been worse, it could have been on carpet

1

u/davidsequoia 3d ago

Cat like reflexes? No. Cereal in slow mo? Also no

1

u/ageofdiscontent_meh 3d ago

Half empty or half full?

1

u/Hour-Low-6664 3d ago

At least the bowl landed upright.

1

u/JoeHendryBeliever299 3d ago

Bro is crying over spilt milk

1

u/Different_Debt_5238 3d ago

The bowl is still at least half full, the table just offered a little portion control

1

u/7thdilemma 3d ago

That kid gets all the respect in the world from me. I love The Iron Giant.

1

u/Lofi_Joe 3d ago

He thought we have nanotechnology and table will go down on his will.

1

u/aggelikiwi 3d ago

Cmon you re just to be kidding me...

1

u/super_time 2d ago

Side question: why do some people seemingly have cameras EVERYWHERE in their house? Is this some sort of Complete Security system that homeowners are being sold?

1

u/Herbacult 2d ago

Is no one else dying from the “just as I wanted to eat it” line 😂

1

u/Majestic-Spray-1429 2d ago

Good thing the camera was set to catch this “accident” 🥱😴✊✊✊

Not good places, but places nonetheless.

Life.

2

u/Tito_Tito_1_ 9h ago

Nah. I'd say Cap'n Crunch or one of the Fruit Loops varieites, given the colors.

1

u/dudeben90 3d ago

What do you expect when the Iron Giant bends believe it or not…Some Iron.

1

u/pupbuck1 3d ago

My guy you were actively trying to break it

1

u/Repulsive_Glove6085 3d ago

Man plans.

God laughs.

1

u/Nice-Pea-3515 3d ago

A cousin of mine used to place his work laptop on one of these lame ass stools. One day in middle of his work, he went out to grab coffee and fell down and broke his ankle.
That’s why I hate this stool.

1

u/RedditFaction 3d ago

Fortunately the Reddit cameraman was filming.

And i hope it stinks like sour milk in there for a couple weeks and no one knows where its coming from. That would be good too.

Edit: sticks -> stinks

1

u/spambearpig 3d ago

Well, not really it’s not his house is it? I doubt his parents deserve to deal with this crap. He’s old enough to clean things properly himself.
