Pattern is Root of One Root of One by Mary E. Rose, golden yellow lace weight silk on 4 mm needles with size 8/0 matte white beads.
I loved the materials, the pattern, the result. No two rows are the same but the pattern was logical and well thought-out. The charts are in parts challenging to read because of the layout and resolution. But the worst thing about this project was winding 800 m of lace weight yarn into a ball, which looks like absolutely nothing happens for hours and you will spend the rest of your days winding.
Also, it has been said before and will be said again: blocking is magic. (Do we need a blockingporn sub? :D)

What a beauty! I remember well the first time I wound a ball from an 800 yd laceweight skein. It wouldn't fit on my small ball winder, which led to my buying a large Stanhope ball winder...what an improvement. And if you were winding that by hand you deserve a medal. Yes--a sub devoted to blocking would be great and would probably see a lot of action!
Thank you! Oh right I didn't specify, I wound that ball by hand because... because. I had wound a kilometre of yarn for another project previously and still didn't buy a winder (though at least it was DK and I ended up with a satisfying 7 or 8 balls probably). But that one lace weight ball made me seriously rethink my winder-lessness!
My friend once knitted a gorgeous shawl but did the beads by the pre-threadung method. While I really liked her work I was NOT going to thread up 400 beads first!! (I went wrong one time with 20 in a colour pattern!! )
Oh dear! Pre-threading the beads (over 600 in this pattern) would have definitely put me off! How did you friend even manage the whole moving the beads along around the ball? That can't have been fun...
She didn't like to talk about it afterwards!! I don't think it was fun at all!!
I was at a knitting retreat recently where we were making a beaded purse. It turned out quite well and encouraged me to buy her* book to make a bolero type cardigan she wore one evening. It was just beautiful. Not started it yet. There are too many WIPs to get through first before I start dropping tiny beads on the floor. 😉
*She = the tutor, Debbie Abrahams. She does LOTS of things with beadwork.
I bought mine on World of Books. The front cover is the jacket she wore. In a royal blue something held with mohair! Beautiful! Enjoy if you get it. ❤️
Beautiful work, and I love how cheerful the color is! Funny you mention a blockingporn sub because just yesterday I was cleaning out my sub list and noticed I'd joined r/blockingporn a couple years ago (which was probably born out of a similar sentiment on another post), but there was only ever one post so I totally forgot it existed. I've got two lace almost-FOs that will need blocking shortly so I'll have to remember to add them there :)
I’m game! And maybe that’ll encourage me to actually get the blocking done. For a primarily lace knitter who loves the before/after effect I sure do procrastinate when it comes to the actual blocking step…
Thank you! I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be too hard to make it a full circle skirt by doubling the pattern and skipping the centre? Or even a half circle skirt, if leaving out enough of the centre? Though I never tried something like this, myself. Let me know if you'd like me to take some measurements on my shawl to help you with planning!
