I have ~2000m of laceweight (2 ply) wool and wanted to knit a big intricate lace shawl. I was hoping to do a Niebling but it looks like all his patterns are for threadweight.

Does anyone have recommendations for similar patterns for 2 ply? Ideally a well written clear pattern.

Curious why you cannot just do the shawl you want to and just use bigger needles? There is no real guage for fit. I would just do what you want.

Not familiar with a Niebling but this Miriam Felton Shawl might interest you. Hidcote Garden Shawl The instructions are clear enough that I managed it as my first lace project even though it's not for beginners.

I have 200g of fingering weight silk and have been struggling to find a pattern that isn’t a shawl or very „old lady“ top 🫠 I’m considering the petit knit cumulus blouse as I think I’d like to do a fingering weight shirt with it but not 100% in love with the pattern

Would love any suggestions of good top patterns that would work well with silk in fingering weight gauge if anyone has any!

I feel like there are a ton of fingering weight tees on Ravelry (to my surprise I've even knit two of them), but I must confess I've never knit with silk. Are you looking for a gauge on the tight side or the loose side? Is there any detailing that you particularly like or would work well with silk (texture, cables, lace, etc)?

There are so many patterns but I really hate the neckline on so many of them 😅 like, why are they all so wide? I have wide shoulders and will look like a rugby player with that kind of neck opening

Thinking of following recommended gauge, so not specifically loose (like 2.5-3mm needles)

I’m imagining a summery top so lace would probably fit well, cables feel like they wouldn’t drape nicely with silk but I haven’t tried it

Ooh I misread how thick your yarn is!
I’m not actually sure what gauge mine is. I will have to do some swatches. I’m quite loose on patterns I like: I’ll just adapt the pattern to the yarn.

Edit: mine is lace too. The first one should be easy to adapt (although a lot of knitting!) the second one a bit more of a faff. So far I’ve only done it in thicker yarn or the suggested, not thinner)

I recently made this https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hey-sailor-2 in Knitting for Olive silk (light fingering weight) and I can't stop wearing it! Not sure if you have a contrasting color option in the silk but if you do- highly recommend!

That’s so pretty! I only have one color unfortunately, but definitely want to try one of her patterns at some point as I never have and they’re so popular

I‘ve realized too that a lot of the silk/fingering weight patterns I’m seeing from European designers recommend the KFO silk which has a very different texture from the one I have (KFO is much less slippery/shiny) so I’m struggling with finding something that will have the intended drape

You might like the Sunshine Tee, lots of people have knit it in silk... https://www.ravelry.com/projects/search#pattern-link=sunshine-tee-2&yarn-link=knitting-for-olive-pure-silk < that's just people that used the KFO pure silk, I'm sure there are others. I've knit it twice in 50/50 merino silk myself. I would add that if you don't like wide necklines, silk might be more of a challenge as it will stretch out and not hold it's shape. But the folded edge of the sunshine tee would be good for adding elastic.

Im also looking for a big lace project. I want to make a large 1/2 or 3/4 circle shawl and adapt it to wrap around my waist as a skirt.

I have a 450 yd variegated fingering weight yarn primarily purple with a little blue, magenta, green and white. I want to make a cowl but want to best show off the yarn. Ideas?
