Getting ready for IMAX this weekend 🎥

Hi, English speaker here,

Firstly, I'm not big into anime. Only watched AoT (dubbed), a handful on DBZ in my youth, and I forget what rendition of Berzerk (subbed). I also understand that anime is not really a genre but more of a medium and shouldn't be generalized in that way.

With that out of the way, Akira is coming to theaters here soon. I've never seen it and have been waiting for the right moment to watch it and this seems like the best time ever.

I have a lot of respect for the movie without having seen it and understand that it's influences reach much further than I know.

I'm leaning towards dubbed because my biggest gripe with subbed anime is it takes away from the visual experience and art. I hate feeling like I have to either miss important dialogue or breathtaking artistry which I KNOW is a huge part of Akira.

I watched AoT dubbed because I knew how much brute will was put into the animation and I wanted to appreciate every frame of it. I have a strong feeling Akira will be the exact same.

I am also hearing that the recent dubs of Akira are done very well and took seriously. AoT dubbed was never insufferable, but the VA was sometimes *annoying* but was easily embraced after the first season.

My question is as in the title, based on what Akira is, should I prioritize the visual experience of the movie or the story it tells within dialogue?

Do you all know if the Akira showings in IMAX only has a digital release or do they have films too? Like the 35mm?
I have a 70 mm film theater downtown that has it showing but I’m not sure if they’re showing the digital or film version. Appreciate any insight if y’all know. Thanks!

Walked in just to check the store out and saw this (local LEGO brick and kit seller). Love it. What would y’all consider a reasonable price? I found some MOCs but just curious how absurd is $160? I’m sure it took a lot of time to source everything and design it

Some questions were answered at the very end of the movie. However, I left the movie theater with so many other questions.

First, am I perhaps just not intelligent enough? Did you totally understand what was happening the first time you watched the movie?

I mean, I did understand the "messages." It was just the world-building that made me question my intellectual abilities.

Second, will reading the manga clarify everything? Because I'm totally going to read it.

I might not have understood the world, but I loved K9999 way too much to ignore a world where "he" exists.

Do not care about HDR. 4K is nice but not with DNR.

Most interested in the hypersonic sound japanese dub. Have a new soundsystem and want to crank this. As long as the picture is passable what I care about most is the sound.

Must have english subtitles... someone said the italian bluray is really good but I can't read italian :/

Every time I watch Akira, I'm always amazed about how they animated Tetsuo lifting his fallen bike up.
Lesser animations would just have it transitioning from fallen to upright, but Akira really gives a sense of the weight of the bike.
I had a crappy Keeway 125 for a year recently and once they tild beyond a certain degree even smaller bikes like that are damn heavy and picking them up after they topple over isn't like lifting a bicycle.
The Akira animators got Tetsuo's bike lifing action so right.

I was just rewatching Akira with English dub when I saw this.

When the character in the middle pushed through the crowd someone also said "What is it? Sieg heil?".

I don't get the reference or why this is there.

I know the movie takes place in 2019, 31 years after WW III but is there a special reason for this?

I tried using Google but couldn't find anything on it.

Let’s say Akira got a sequel in the manga, Kaneda and Kei have grown into a family and all is great in Tokyo. Tetsuo however, descends from his godly form to make amends towards Kaneda. How would things actually play out?
