QUESTION Main road parking?
Just curious if others do this
For those houses that are right off a busier main roads? I’ve honestly gotten to the habit of taking the opposing lane with my hazards on, so the cars are facing me as they approach. It’s particularly useful to avoid a senseless amount of turning around and is also faster since the only time I’m doing it is to walk straight up the driveway and not crossing the street.
I wanna be clear that this is a specific road type though, 1 lane each way and never THAT busy, usually intersecting neighborhoods at 30-35mph. If it’s 2+ lanes or denser areas I just bite the bullet and keep to the right.
I also try to stay mindful of road curvature when doing this, because obviously someone coming through a curve might get surprised by a van facing them.

I have no problem holding up traffic by parking on a main road with my hazards on but would never park in the opposite direction. Too sketchy for me

main road is diabolical, it's one thing for a side street with no traffic, and even then I dislike doing that. an extra 20 foot walk isn't the end of a route

Maybe I have painted the wrong picture? They are standard sized streets with no street parking, so I assumed “main road” was the correct term but there are houses all down these roads and clustered. The traffic can barely be labeled as moderate most days on these roads except for school and evening times they get a little busier,
Seems as if I’ll refrain unless I’m really in a pinch or have a bigger unload. I honestly didn’t think it was that big of deal, I drove these ford transits for years in my city and some of these guys would shit purple bricks then fall over from an aneurism if they knew what you gotta do with these things in downtown Atlanta sometimes

Just park on the right so when you resume driving you don’t have to change lanes. You can still deliver both sides of the street just look both ways before crossing

If i have a busy route and i have no other options I will do this sometimes fuck it. Especially if theres no parking and its either that or a hike from down the street

Ya don’t do that
You should literally never be in the wrong side of the road, especially if it’s a main road.

I wouldn’t be the first, nor the last commercial vehicle committing such an atrocity

“Well this person did it so I can too” isn’t a good argument. There’s positives to it on your end, but there’s way more negatives to doing this. This job ain’t worth that. If you hate turning around that much go down one street and skip those stops. Then make the turn and tackle all the stops on the opposing side.

I’ve made more points in other replies so I definitely wasn’t using it as some kinda validation lol.
Turning around in itself isn’t the problem, sometimes the routing is so excessive with it, and it’ll want me to turn around to grab 2 houses I’m already passing, to then turn around again and do the same thing another 0.3 miles down.

I’d only do this in quiet residential neighborhoods. If a cop sees you doing this on a main road you’re probably gonna loose your job

I never park looking into on coming traffic. Seems like not a good idea. If there is a middle tun lane, Ill park there sometimes. Other times I put 2 wheels on the sidewalk and try to make enough room for people to get around.

See that’s wild cause you’d never catch me parked in a middle lane, that sounds a bit worse lol. 2 tires on sidewalk/grass is game though

If thats where it says to park, I assume I'm not the first so I definitely park exactly where it says to unless it show the parking from previous deliveries somewhere else

The only time I block the opposite lane is in neighborhoods……I would never do that on any random road; especially a one way each direction…..if someone hits you even though you were sitting still, pretty sure you would be found at fault.

Are you trying to get a ticket or cause a bad accident where people can crash head first into you while being blinded by your headlights around a curve? This might be one of the fastest ways.
You should probably be more worried about staying within the bounds of the law. We have ONE JOB: drliver the packages while following the law. Is this some sort of weird flex in your head?

I mean maybe it’s different where you’re from but if it’s not a busy road I’ve regularly had cops drive by and wave at me when I’m parked on the wrong side.
Also been seen many many times backing the step van down dead ends. They literally wave. Don’t do anything dangerous and they are almost always on our side.

I mean if others crash into a stationary object in broad daylight with hundreds of feet of clearance in front of them then idk bro. I don’t take the full lane as most of my van is pulled off the side and like I said in the post, it’s not something I do without plenty of visibility. Ive seen plenty of other drivers do similar things because would it not be more dangerous for me trying to repeatedly cross a street carrying XL’s and an additional 4 packages for each address?
If I thought it were a flex, I probably wouldn’t be asking about the norms on reddit. Thanks for your input though lmfao.

Whataboutisming what other divers do does not make what you are doing less illegal or dangerous...

It’s fine as long as you don’t do it on bends or busy double yellow roads during high traffic times. Don’t listen to these wannabe hall monitors. The cops literally wave at me backing down dead end roads in the step van. Most of them are customers themselves.
You’re good just keep it safe and respectful, give others the right of way when you park illegally
