Removing step vans

In our morning meeting our dsp told everyone that they are converting to all edvs that Amazon is getting rid of all our stepvans is this true for everyone ? We had 16 step van routes now down to 8

Yeah, pretty sure it's happening everywhere. My DSP is now about 95% EV.

I’m in a newer warehouse.

Though before hiring me, they said they were phasing out step vans, cdvs, and even gasoline vans.

Our fleet is about 90% edvs. There’s like 5-6 gas vans right now.

My station doesnt have edv and probabmy never will. The building is rented and the power company doesnt wanna install the chargers so our steps are safe for now

The closest station woth edv is a hour north. I aint driving that far for my second job. Step van is fine.

Shiiiit amazon made us retire one of our steps because the engine exploded. So we are down one but the owner said he was gonna try to get a brand new one, maybe one of the bigger ones like FedEx has

A big one like a P1200? Man, that'll be interesting. He'd most likely have to buy it himself though, since Amazon never opted for a P1200 step van.

They’ll probably close your station at some point. If you ask station workers about any upcoming stations, they might tell you.

Same at my station. They’ve been slowly taking step vans and giving us lots of EVs. We have a couple gas vans my dsp owns outright still but Amazon is pushing them all to lease the EVs. They don’t want to pay $200+ for one full tank of gas per step van. (Amazon pays for gas/ electricity)

I guess it depends on where you’re at . We had 20 step vans now we have 4 and our owner said we should treat them extremely well because the next issue we have with them they are gone 😂

I haven't heard of them removing the step vans at my station however they are adding more Rivians to the fleet. Just waiting for my manager to add me for the EV training.

How far does ur dsp go? At my facility some dsp stay a 10- 20 mile radius but my dsp goes as far as 60 miles. Most of them are a 20 - 40 mile range. But once they hit that 40 mile. It would be hard to imagine it can handle 40 mile trip plus 300 + packages

They give smaller routes in the EVs, but yeah it’s going to be a problem. Especially in the freezing winter when they die 3x as fast

I remember driving a step van for Amazon. It was awesome. I would like to drive an EDV one day.

Yes.. I am in northern New Jersey at DJR1 and they are decommissioning them and sending them to a station/stations with rural routes.

They’ve been pushing this since EDVs came out. They removed them all at the DSP for a a couple months but once peak came, they all came back lol.

lol I’ve been hearing “the fleet will be 100% EDV’s soon” since I started back in late 2023. Haven’t noticed an increase in EV’s at my station whatsoever, most fleets are still majority gas vans. I’d be very surprised if they’re finally getting serious about getting rid of the gas vans, but I guess it’s probably station-dependent

My dsp still has gas vans but only uses a couple each day, if they need too. We use mostly EDVs now and they’ve gotten rid of most of our CDVs too. What sucks is that we have a bunch of rural routes and most people don’t trim their trees so u gotta walk half the driveways cause the EDV is too big to fit in driveway or low hanging trees

I was just posting about this yesterday. It seems likely. My DSP used to have 12 step vans, now we're down to just 1 out of 3 that have been in service. Several others have gone out for "maintenance," but only one had returned, the others have been out for so long that I think they've just retired them. Really fucking depressing, step vans are the best out of them all.

The dsp I worked for still uses the rental rams and uhauls, old Ford transits delivering throughout my city. They had like 1 stepvan last time I was there.
