You mean that there isn't an alternative food producer anywhere in the world to compensate for every country that imports food from the US to switch to because the US is the largest food exporter in the world, and food security and starvation are already huge problems worldwide?
They think not buying produce and food for 30 months is gonna be a devastating blow when their government has probably contracted some American firm to buy millions of dollars worth of equipment or business services over the next few years or getting returns from pension fund investments they made 10 years before that.

since you track it, any recalls directly tied to policy changes or do you not look that far into it? after the lettuce problem, everyone blaming trump and rfk, and then its not even american food that was the issue, I got curious if any case spawned from direct policy shifts but there is no good way to look that up with google and bing sourcing from extremely bias sources.
I’ve literally never thought of looking at where my fruit comes from. If it’s from the US, well it’s delicious. Who cares.
I do try to avoid Chinese stuff as much as possible. But more in an Ali express BS webshops way and I will not buy a car that’s made in China. I won’t support that regime. Not gonna make my life impossible, so sometimes it’s almost unavoidable.

There is little I despise more than that bastard child of European decadence and weakness. Unlike America, who relentless conquered its wilderness, broke it, and bent it to our will, Canada has been conquered by it.
Even now they cling en masse to the American border that they claim to hate, for they know it is the only safe place. Their wilderness taught to retreat, to hide in their hovels, and that survival depended on meekness.
Of course, they know this truth in their hearts. It eats away as a national decay. Twisting them in their hate and wretchedness to hate those that are strong. To hate their very protector.
Talk about living vicariously through your nation-state. An individual's personal strength has nothing to do with the land they happen to be born in.
People (including tons of people on this very sub) bang on all the time about how Canadians are just like Americans and there's no real differences between our two peoples. Then someone like you comes along and really trumpets how different you actually think we are, and how contemptuous you are of those differences by characterizing them like this.
You could be that American I clashed with once who insisted every immigrant who came to America were big, strong, powerful people who were merely chafing with the limitations of their homelands and wanted away from, and every last immigrant to Canada were all pussy pansies running away from danger and wanted to hide in the vast wilderness. Even if both groups of immigrants were leaving the same circumstances. Both groups would wind up doing the same thing, though. Hacking a life out of the frontier and enduring difficult conditions with little to no aid from the outside world.
You wrote a lot of poetry to avoid the news. Canada isn't clinging to anything. Carney publicly called their reliance on the US a weakness to be corrected, walked away from trade talks, matched the tariffs dollar for dollar, and is chasing deals with the EU and India to cut the US out. That's a country trying to leave, not one hiding behind its "protector." The clinging exists only in the story you needed to write.
The line about clinging to the border I think is more in reference to the fact that they mostly live close to the border (I’m not fact checking, no clue if it’s true, but that’s how i interpreted it)

I thought the whole point was to try and buy local and if not local at least domestic. My grandpa only buys fruit grown in the US and he might be old but I thought that's what everyone thought was best. Other countries used to make fun of us for eating garbage and not growing our own food but now the aim is to ot eat our own food? I'm confused man.
