Question Graduation
Hi! I’m planning to finish my degree in December but want to walk in the spring, because my parents won’t be able to watch me walk (due to familial circumstances). My advisor told me she’ll “have to jump through some hoops.” Is this true? My friends have said there is a wavier, but I can’t find anything online. Does anyone know how to begin this process? Thanks!

As of an internal email sent this week, December ‘26 will be the final fall ceremony- after that they’re all spring only. Tell the advisor you want to walk in the spring and let them sort it.

it’s called the Commencement Walk Exception Request form, you can find it on the university’s List of Forms page. your advisor signs off on it and it goes through to a few more offices for approval. it asks for your reason for making the request so i recommend explaining there that your family won’t be able to make it in december.
