If not rainwater, it's from a plugged AC drain. Happens on occasion, unfortunately.

could be rain water that was trapped and released after train started moving, also could be someone left a water in the overhead luggage and it spilt over. Have seen both happen n yes they are not typical

Point it out to the car attendant in case there is a leak .

Oh trust me I tried. The conductor started scolding me for speaking in the quiet car after I told the woman next to me that her pillow was getting wet from the leak and didn’t listen to me when I explained what I was trying to say.

Then when he was checking tickets, he started yelling at the woman across for putting the bags on her lap in the overhead compartment quickly enough.

Unacceptable behavior, contact 'customer relations' with a note on the date, time, and trip. The conductors should know better than to act unprofessionally to the passengers.

That seems worse than usual, but on the Amfleet I’s post-rain, once the train is up and moving, water that was trapped and pooling in various places will begin to leak out from where it can (usually around the windows in my experience)

Sometimes a water bottle will fall out of someone’s bag in the overhead compartment and drip on the seat

It wasn’t a water bottle since it was happening on both sides of the 4 seaters at the front of the quiet car. It was most likely rain accumulated from the day before.

So this happened to me in June. It was pouring rain though and the workers had stuff napkins into the ceiling to try and stop the leak. I called customer relations to say hey this isn't cool & they gave me a $400 credit

Good to know. I actually also complained in the feedback survey because on top of dodging the water the whole ride, the conductor was giving me and the ladies next to me a hard time.

Never has happened to me on a train but has in a plane. Actually came out of the air vent. It happens on days when you take off from someplace where there was no ground A/C hooked up and you had high humidity. If you saw the amount of water that can come out of an Amfleet car in the morning in Miami, you would understand. An Amfleet Coach has two A/C units rated at 8 tons each.

AC condensing on those old Budd AmFleet cars. Totally normal for them to do that. But showing aging.

Nah deff not AC because the ac wasn’t on LOL. It was from the storm the day before.

Same thing happened today and conductor said it was from the rain. Damn they gotta fix the AC coz it was so hot in there. God, how is the Amtrak this bad? I literally just spent $$$ on a monthly pass. Ffs

Those train cars are 50 years old. Amtrak is keeping them alive the best they can. Brand new cars coming soon, they’re just starting to get delivered. This is what happens when you don’t fund critical public transportation for decades.

With that said - hot cars aren’t that frequent, and most people complain it’s freezing - but equipment issues do happen. At least you can move to the next car if it’s too cold or warm, since each car has its own AC equipment.
