News & Rumours Google TV device owners heads up!!!

Effective immediately, if you have a device with the Google TV UI, please make one post at the Google TV subreddit, don't crosspost or repeat the same post on the Android TV subreddit, it will be deleted with the exception of:

- Posts about apps that work on both UIs.

- Posts of news articles that affects both UIs.

- Posts looking for advise on what device to buy.

It's worth mentioning that all posts will be reviewed for approval before they go live, so make sure you indicate the name of the device or the name of the UI on the title or description of your post.

Someone from Google is going to provide assistance on the Google TV subreddit, therefore, this is a good opportunity to provide feedback as well as to receive support from them.

This is their official statement:

"We will use the account u/GoogleHelpCommunity to provide timely technical support, help route escalations, and share updates on known outages on r/GoogleTV. We’ve chosen this subreddit because of its active community, and we want to ensure our presence adds value without disrupting the organic discussions you’ve cultivated.

Our commitment: Support Focus: We will stick to troubleshooting and informative responses. We won’t be engaging in marketing or off-topic discussions. Respecting the Rules: We will adhere to all subreddit guidelines and respect the established culture here."

Thank you for your attention and understanding.

Buying Advice Recommended TV boxes

Could anyone recommend a media player – i.e. a TV box – that has both an Ethernet connection and Wi-Fi, as well as a DVB-T2 TV tuner certified by Vidivine? It should support Netflix, HBO Max and other VOD services, as well as IPTV, and be compatible with the 2026 standard, or the 2024–2025 standard.

Buying Advice Advice on streaming setup? Google Streamer good?

My family loves movies and tv shows, we currently use a google tv Chromecast and adore the small remote that came with it, it's seen better days and the battery panel is held on with sticky tape at this point and lately the device feels flakey with wifi constantly dropping out. Wanting to download different apps and needing to free up space by deleting other apps and we find the new Gemini voice assistant so much worse than other voice recognition used before... Thinking of getting the new Google streamer 4K... Opinions?

But wondering if I'll be missing out on anything? ...what are people doing at the moment? just started reading up about "downloader by aftv news" and "stremio".

Some more context, lately we've been searching up movies we've wanted to see and generally being pissed off none of the main streamers have that movie despite our own opinion of its cult classic status 😖, + logging into all the different apps one by one to check if something is on there.

Discussion Looking for a browser that plays videos in original quality

When I open videos using "Browser", "Zeus TV", or "TV Bro" all these browsers, the quality is limited to 720p. I would like to be able to get 1080p or 2K quality when it is available.

Buying Advice Is Amazon Fire TV stick really that bad?

I am aware that the hate is mostly on the new OS they’re using for their newer models? I don’t fully understand the situation, but from what I understood, they’re trying to get rid of third party apps.

Now here’s my issue, the Fire TV stick is the best prices option by far, and what I truly only need is streaming netflix, youtube, and MOST IMPORTANTLY Apple Music.

I don’t really care about video quality thaat much, but proper functioning is a priority. I don’t want it breaking down in 6 months.

I thought of getting an older version of the Fire TV as their reviews are not as terrible.

Is the Fire Stick really that bad for my requirements?

Discussion Shield remote on Xiaomi? "Higher quality" remote?

Hey!

I have a Xiaomi TV Box S gen 3 but I literally hate its remote. The buttons presses are loud as heck, the buttons are mushy and don't give enough tactile feedback when a button press is registered.

I am thinking about getting a Shield 2019 remote. Will it pair and work? Is it true that voice will stop working?

Are there other alternatives for a remote with much better buttons than the Xiaomi remote? The buttons, sound and tactile feedback of the Apple TV 4K remote is probably the best. Or Logitech Harmony Elite. Those hard plastic buttons instead of mushy silicone ones.

The Sofabaton remotes are too expensive in Sweden.

Thanks!

Troubleshooting TCL NXTVision Art Call Command No Longer Working

I was using the play media command successfully for the past year for our TCL NXTVISION art tv, to force it to art mode when it turns on, regardless of what input was on to start. About two weeks ago, the command to play media com.tcl.exhibit no longer works, and AI can't seem to give me any pointers. The commands to turn on the TV, etc all work fine still - it's like the call to com.tcl.exhibit has been blocked.

Has anyone run into this, or any suggestions?

Thanks

Devices & Accessories Speaker issue with Android TV

Post image
0 Upvotes

So, i have this TCL 65v6c android with Google tv in it. And i have an analog/bluetooth installed speakers. When the speakers turn on, the lady says: Bluetooth mode and connects to my tv(after pairing ofc). The audio from the speakers are so good btw. BUT, sometimes the BT speakers automatically or randomly turn off and play the "Bluetooth mode" sound at max volume and reconnect, which is unimaginably annoying and nerve-wracking. To fix this, I've tried forgetting and repairing the BT speakers from the tv, I've also tried clearing the cache and the data of the bluetooth app in System apps in settings. None of these troubleshooting didnt work, which means in bt mode: the speakers constantly turn off and disconnect. I've tried using the BT speakers with my other phones, laptops, which it worked seamlessly and perfectly with no turning off.

I can also use the speakers analog way: the white and red cables coming out merge to aux and etc. Ive tried an aux to Usb a adapter into the android tv, but i cant see a USB Audio output in the Audio output list, ive tried turning off: Disable Audio Routing in the Developer options, but it didnt work. But the audio did once came out, but i had no control of the volume using the tv remote and the connection was unstable, i could only control the volume using the speaker knob which i hate.

I know, i know. Most people will tell me to convert the speaker to digital using optical toslink. But i once tried it, it worked, but i could NOT control the volume of the speakers using the tv remote.

So, fellow redditors, this is my situation. So, please, feel free to help me out in any way you can.

Buying Advice Nvidia Shield Pro is dead, so what's next? Looking for the ultimate uncompromising Stremio/Kodi box for my LG G4 OLED setup

Hey everyone,

I’m currently putting together a top-tier home theater setup anchored by an LG G4 OLED and a full 5.1 surround sound system. My initial plan was to grab the legendary Nvidia Shield Pro, but let’s be real—everyone and their mom points out that it’s heavily outdated hardware at this point.

Since I want absolute perfection without any compromises, I’ve been eyeing a few newer alternatives, specifically:

Ugoos SK1

Ugoos AM8 Pro

MINIX U8K-Ultra

Ugoos Am9 Pro

My exact use case & requirements:

100% Media Consumption: Zero interest in official streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+, or Prime.

Primary Sources: Stremio, Kodi, Plex, and local playback via external hard drives.

Quality Standard: Highest possible bitrates and formats only. I need seamless Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and pristine lossless audio pass-through to my 5.1 AVR (TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, etc.).

The Goal: Pure, unadulterated performance. I want the absolute peak currently available on the market.

Given my setup, which of these beasts should I pull the trigger on, or is there a hidden contender I'm missing? Would love to hear from people who actually push these boxes to their absolute limits!

Buying Advice Does the Onn remote channel +/- work with YouTube TV w/ Google Streamer

Hi all - I looked for answers for this in this sub and elsewhere, but couldn’t find a clear answer.

I’m trying to find a set up for my parents where they can use the channel up and down function on YouTube TV. I was leaning toward getting the Google streamer, but that doesn’t have channel up/down on the remote. Has anyone used the Onn remote for this purpose with a Google TV Streamer? Thank you!

Buying Advice Cheapest Android TV/CoreELEC box for 100+ GB 4K Blu-ray REMUX with Dolby Vision & TrueHD Atmos passthrough?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for the most budget-friendly TV box (buying used is totally fine) capable of handling heavy 4K UHD Blu-ray REMUX files (70–140 GB, 60–90+ Mbps bitrates) via Stremio with a Debrid)

My setup:

TV: Philips 77OLED759

Soundbar: Samsung HW-Q990D

The built-in TV app crashes within 30 seconds due to memory buffer issues and lack of lossless audio passthrough.

My strict criteria:

Dolby Vision support: Must properly trigger the DV profile/logo on the TV for Profile 7/8 MKV remuxes without falling back to basic HDR10.

True Lossless Audio Passthrough: Direct bitstream passthrough for Dolby TrueHD (with Atmos) and DTS-HD MA straight to the soundbar (no conversion to basic Dolby Digital 5.1 or stereo PCM).

Open platform / Future-proof: Running stock Android TV / Google TV with sideloading capabilities. No locked-down proprietary ecosystems (like Fire OS).

Stable network: Reliable enough (via Gigabit Ethernet or solid Wi-Fi) to never buffer on 120+ Mbps bitrate spikes.

Budget: As cheap as possible (ideally hunting under 70–90€ on the second-hand market).

I know the 2019 Nvidia Shield TV Pro is the gold standard, but are there cheaper S905X4-K alternatives you'd recommend for this specific use case?

Thanks for your suggestions!

Apps Best Browsers for Tv

Here are some of the best Android internet browsers with HDR playback support that I currently use for 4K streaming on my android tv

Except TV Bro, all of these browsers feature a built-in video player, which is an excellent addition to play videos with more ease.

They also include efficient ad-blocking, which is especially effective against pop-ups too

1 - Hi browser (supports HDR)

2 - Browser (supports HDR)

3 - Internet Web browser - Zeus (supports HDR)

4 - Browse here (supports HDR)

5 - TV Bro

If you can sideload apps, the TV version of the "Coc Coc browser" is another good option. Make sure to downlaod this version 127.4.164

It features a "Cinema Mode" a green floating icon, when watching videos clicking on it to switches to a user-friendly interface, and it supports ad-blocking, pop up block though it does not support HDR.

I have tried several other options, but none are as smooth as the apps listed here.

Troubleshooting Homatics Power Button on Remote Turns OFF TV but Can't Turn it Back On?

I ordered a Box R 4k Plus from Vontar on AliExpress and it arrived today. I immediately sideloaded the most recent firmware and updated the B21 remote by pairing it with my old ONN box. However, when I use the remote setup "wizard" the TV powers off but is not able to power back on. I have to use my TCL remote to turn the TV back on. All other TV codes don't turn the TV off. I also am not able to get INPUT button working with my TV neither. This TV isn't an old model so I am surprised it isn't working. I have HDMI-CEC enabled on both my TV and homatics settings... I'm not sure if there is something I am overlooking or how to get this to work... very disappointing that it doesn't work properly for me...

The TV is a TCL QM7 for what it's worth... any idea why this is happening?
