Spoilers I guess.No its not confirmed throuple but it is headed in that direction. A lot of fans are thinking that's how it will end and there are little hints here and there with pieces of dialogue throughout the Manga that also support a throuple ending.
Is there any actual romantic progress in this series or is the typical male MC never does ANYTHING and hasnt done anything in YEARS. I was thinking of getting into it but dont want to waste my time
So yes and no. TLDR: It is a slow burn If you are asking if anyone is a couple or anything like that then no. I would say progress is made throughout but it takes a good minute.
A large portion of the manga is about friendship not a romantic relationship but it is now heavily exploring the romantic side and has been for a while. Without giving much away. As it progresses one of the girls develops feelings and eventually both of them do. At a certain point they discuss it with each other and decide to pursue a romantic relationship with the MC. It isn't your typical useless MC that is in love and refuses to so anything about it. He genuinely sees them as friends and values them as such. Its focused more on the girls' feelings how they decide to deal with the both of them being in love with their best friend. There are romantic scenes throughout and plenty of flirting though.
Is it a throuple or harem? I actually just downloaded this to start reading but a throuple is when all 3 care for each other more or less equally, a harem is when they're just there for him.
I know they're good friends from what little i read but that doesn't mean they're good in a romantic relationship. Interesting to see an alternative take on this though, it's usually just main girl and main guy who get together to the surprise of nobody. It's mostly pushed me away from any manga where they hint early on that rivals exist cause it's rarely a surprise. I do like romance where you know which 2 belong and there aren't needless third wheels.
100% throuple not a harem. I would argue the girls care about each other just as much as they care about him and I would say he cares for them equally as well.
Sorry, it's not an anime rec, but if you're up for reading a manhwa, most would agree that Webtoon Character Na Kang Lim is probably the best complete manhwa with a true harem end so far.

I’m with you on the no-losing-heroines rule. If I’m getting invested in a romance, I want everyone to get their happy ending, not watch one woman get sidelined for drama.
He's the antithesis of the real life Keith Richards; Rentaro gains more power with every girlfriend through love and the powers of zing and hngggh, where as with every rock musician that dies of overdose, Keith Richards gets the rest of their natural lifespan added to his.
I've been saying that the fantasy of that series is not to want to have 100% girlfriends, its to be as in love with someone as Rentaro is but with less horrible injuries
Something I love about the series, is while it shows how crazy and over protective he can get about things (and not in a bad way). He always does it with such care and gentleness. He's also very attentive to thier needs and adjust accordingly. And the dub catches that perfectly.
Agree. 3 is the highest when it can be satisfying and the leads get a sufficient development so that the fans care, higher than that and that just looks like consolation prize if everyone wins
Its worth the read. There is a moment where the protagonist thinks he isnt good enough but its a shorter arc that is solved pretty early on. He's is very much not the typical whiny pathetic character you see in other Manga. The guy just needed to get a little confidence. He is a little dense but cares a lot for the two girls.
Yeah easily rec to read it. I caught up 3 or so months back and am waiting to binge more. I like it because both of them treat him very well and his personality isnt a drastic shift but one of 'oh, yeah, positive affirmation will do this to someone'

Honestly, a dude and two girls is usually the best solution. The problem is, authors tend to overextend and keep adding more heroines, to the point that most of them have no business being there. Three is the perfect number, since protagonist has two hands and two sides, while two girls can have as much connection with each other as with the protagonist.
While it is not exactly canon, but something like having Marcille end up with both siblings at the same time in Dungeon Meshi. Or whatever's going on with Iliya, Chloe and Miyu in Fate/Kaleid. Re:Zero has this in potential with both Emilia and Rem.
Four is pushing it a bit. It can still be done, but it is usually better to remove the protagonist and have a yuri trio. Like with Mushoku.
There is an upcoming anime, Zero Believer Goddess, which is basically Konosuba if it was taken seriously and not from comedic angle. Protagonist has two female party members, a girl he was closest with before the isekai and a girl he is closest with after the isekai. With two girls also having great synergy with each other, it was a perfect trio. Then a third girl joined the picture, which... still okay, but it really feels like she has nothing to do in that lineup. And then author kept adding more, only one of them was good. Author's greed ruined perfection.
Speaking of Konosuba, a Kazuma-Megumin-Darkness trio would also work great. Darkness would love to be in the chair for Kazuma-Megumin, after all.
