Obligatory "When someone makes the same point as you but they do it in such an annoying way that it makes you not want to agree"

u/Hanz_Q Antifa 4d ago
I would care a lot more about pizza cake if they had more substance to their political comics than "Nazis bad, maga shitty" but then again I think the goblin Capital Gapital comic is boring as fuck and does a terrible job of making its own point.

u/w8_wuht 4d ago
I mean... Nazis ARE bad and MAGA IS shitty so... 🤷

u/Disasterhuman24 4d ago
Her comics are the definition of cringe but her heart is in the right place.
33
u/w8_wuht 4d ago
I don't understand cringe 🤣 probably why it doesn't bother me. I see their comics and go... Yep, accurate, and I move on.

u/Disasterhuman24 4d ago
I think the biggest issue is she is very reductive in her protrayal of anyone who disagrees with her. She's "owning" strawmen in these comics. I personally don't believe that is the best way to go about it, but I'm also not the most successful comic artist on reddit.
8
u/Chaetomius 4d ago
do we live on the internet? she strawmans nobody.
9
u/Disasterhuman24 4d ago
I just personally think that the ghoulish strawman characterization is a right wing comic thing and that it's low hanging fruit. Anyone can portray their opposition as a simplistic goon, it only appeals to the people who already agree with her. And like I said, I am on her side politically.
I think a really good political cartoons can change someone's mind on an issue. Not that you see many of those from anybody nowadays. And I'm not trying to hold her to a higher standard, but we are supposed to be the good guys so I think it would be more beneficial for the comics to have a bit more substance beside "MAGA bad"

u/w8_wuht 4d ago
I'm not any kind of comic artist so it's all good 🤷 I guess I can see where that might bug people, logic and reason are better tools than oversimplification and demonization.
16
u/Chaetomius 4d ago
buddy you're one sensitive pal if this is demonization, guy
1
u/w8_wuht 4d ago
I mean, yeah, sensitive is accurate sort of I think? Hard to say. Maybe demonization isn't the right word, but the one thing I've noticed more than anything is that yelling and pointing fingers only seems to widen the division and polarize people even more. I've been working on neutral language and sticking to facts and logic rather than opinions and morals. It doesn't land very often, but it's got a better success rate than I've had with lashing out 🤷

u/Hanz_Q Antifa 4d ago
I also wish she spent any time on why instead of beating her audience over the head with the what. Yes Nazis are bad, explain why they're experiencing a resurgence. Yes Elon is bad, please describe the policies that have allowed him to both get this rich and have this much sway on society. Yes racism is bad, please explain what is necessary to actually combat racism and drive it from our communities permanently.
2
u/w8_wuht 4d ago
Ah. Yeah I can see that too. I'd suck at that personally because it would require a balance of informative and concise. I... Tend to monologue 😅

This is the problem with leftist comics. Any actual information needs a lot of room on a page.

I will never understand that sentiment. If someone being annoying makes you change your entire belief system, I’d question if you ever really had that belief in the first place.

u/A2Rhombus 4d ago
I didn't mind her until criticizing her got me permanently banned from r/comics so now seeing her just annoys me lol

u/OriginalUsername1892 4d ago
People need to remember that being cringe isn't nearly as bad as supporting the Nazis. Everyone is cringe at one point or another. Humanity has been cringe since humanity has been around. To get caught up in the "cringe" discussion is to devalue opposition to Nazis simply because of branding or whatever. It's not worth the effort and anyone who opposes Nazis is on my side, cringe or not

y'all need some chill. She's just a woman who makes little doodles about how she doesn't like right wing bullshit. Who gives a shit if you find her annoying. If you are going to build a better world then you're going to have to work beside annoying people. Just encourage her when she makes good points and criticize her when she makes bad points. when you publicly denigrate someone for saying they hate nazis because they are being annoying when they do it, you're not elevating the conversation. What you're doing is discouraging people from speaking up because they don't want to sound cringe. and you know what, I would rather fight alongside pizzacake than convince her (and others) to stop fighting at all.

u/Nerdy_Valkyrie 3d ago
I see male comic writers who are way worse than her get like a tenth of the complaints.
Is she amazing or groundbreaking? No. But she's not awful the way some people portray her. They had to forbid people from using her comics on BHJ because people kept making outright hateful edits of her comics where they, among other things, called her a whore for having onlyfans. People seriously need to chill about her.

There has been an orchestrated hate campaign against her dating back to that time a meme subreddit wouldn't delete edits of her paid content, which is her livelihood, causing their mods to tell her "ok sue us lol". Which she did. And was villanized for doing exactly what they told her to, what anyone else would have done in her position.
Since that day, some redditors have been parrotting rehearsed talking points about her, which are all either in super bad faith or one search engine query away from being disproven. It's gamergate tier blind bandwagonning.
Leftists are meant to defend working class folks when the fruits of their labor gets stolen, not pile onto them. I don't particularly like her art style either, but you should pay attention to the fact that the hate campaign against her has shown her true nature: instead of getting defensive and problematic, like liberals usually do, she's focused on her work and become more radical in the things she portrays (eg. not shying away from supporting violence against nazis).
People who can't help but throw hate at her just need to grow up tbh. Their childishness and sexism are showing. This whole ordeal made me kinda like her. She's cringe, but she's cool.

I genuinely don't get the contempt for her. From what I understand, she a bit of a goofball, but guess what, so are many of us, if not more.
The only difference is that she's popular.
Did she draw some questionable NSFW shit? Is she a borderline zionist? What she do?

pizzacakecomic be like "thing bad, please praise me" I genuinely want to see the type of people who are like diehard pizzacake fans
what are they like
is it like performative anarchists, who are also Swifties?

u/Advice_Thingy Anarchist 4d ago
You can often see her diehard fans in the comments of r/comics, praising her. There was just recently a new comic from her, complaining and playing the victim of evil critics or something. Lots of these fans were there to tell her she's amazing, unique, funny, beautiful, inspiring and whatever else.

I think it's important to note that artists like Reddot and Tiff&Eve did call out this bullshit, but they're some of the few left around to do so because any regular user gets permabanned for it, by Pizzacake, who is a mod there.

also the stalker-like critics don't seem to recognize that this comic is actually about them.
10
u/Chaetomius 4d ago
ITT: some dedicated haters who have to have short, trite, deluded discussions about why they hate PCC yet every time they do it, they embody their own criticisms.
It's a comic. nobody made you come here. PCC doesn't come in the form of spam mail, phone calls, or popup ads. You could've ignored the post and scrolled on. but no, anywhere you see her you have your 3 copypasted comments to make because jerkin each other off is your favorite thing in the world.

Like, I agree with her, fuck nazis, but I really hate her art style and quirky chungus brand of humor.
4
u/ipsum629 4d ago
Not even a good point. When the nazis are defeated, we should still stay aware of them in case they start coming back. Learning from history is a continuous, never-ending process. When we bury the last fascist, I'll tell my kids and grandkids about it, and tell them to tell their children, too.
13
u/Chaetomius 4d ago
what in this comic or history of the artist makes you think that the artist actually thinks they'll be gone? this is a strawman.

I swear, there's not a single person on the internet that can be normal about this woman. Be they the suckups or haters, everyone would happier if they just moved the fuck on.

I'm glad Pizzacake is so committed to winning the war over the subreddit they have full control of. Remember back in WWII when political cartoon satirists beat the Nazis from Stalingrad all the way back to Berlin, relentlessly portraying them across Europe
