Question about my rent this month plz help w/advice

I’ve been living in my apartment for two years with my bf. Ever since we’ve moved in, we’ve never missed rent or have been late paying rent. However, something came up this month and we wouldn’t be able to pay rent until 15th instead of when we usually pay rent on the 5th. It would be about 10 days late. If I contact my landlord and ask him if this is okay do you think it could be? Again, this is our first time having a question about rent and I’ve never had/been in this situation before so I don’t know how it would go or if I’m being unrealistic.

Thanks in advance and please be kind. We could possibly figure something out but it would be the best for us if we could pay on the 15th this month and only this month, this is won’t ever happen again.

I always let everyone have a get out of jail free card for late fees. You’ve always paid on time and you’re going to let him know now? Most reasonable people would be fine with it.
On a personal note if you’re paying the 15th with the second paycheck that month and you’ll need the next paycheck to pay rent on time the next month…be careful. This is where people become perpetually late and end up paying hundreds in late fees each month. Don’t let that happen

Thank you so much for your response. Also thank you for your concern, this month won’t affect next month and we will be able to pay on time next month but it’s just this rent payment that’s funky. Thanks again

Assuming your landlord is an individual and not a company…no one here can tell you how they’ll respond. If you can pay some now, that may help. I’d also do whatever you can to pay the rent on time- can other bills be put off instead? Can you float expenses on a credit card? Stuff like that.

I am not a landlord, but I feel communication is key. I ran into a situation in my apartment soon after I moved in, Switched agencies at work and had a small gap, but I communicated with my property manager, told them when I could pay and they put a inter-office memo regarding when I was gonna pay rent but at the same time they had to do their due diligence and write me a 3 day pay or quit notice but still gave me the courtesy of paying on the 17th of the month.

Also (As I have seen in multiple reddit communities such as r/Renters and r/landlords I am gonna go out on a limb and say your rent is due on the first and they are already giving you a courtesy by saying they will give you a grace period of 5 days before they charge a late fee, so if you pay on the 15th your rent would be 15 days late but you would probably only get hit with latefees for the days after the 5th.

No one here can tell you if your landlord will be okay with it or not. But if you know you're going to pay rent late you should definitely give them a heads up. Whenever i've been late i let my landlord know ahead of time and give them whatever portion i'm able to. I've been spared late fees by simply communicating.

Nobody likes being told rent is going to be late but everybody prefers it over finding out rent is late because it's due and you haven't paid.

You’ll probably get a late fee but that’s all

Tell your landlord about your situation ASAP. You may be charged late fees as outlined in your lease agreement. You may get a free pass for being upfront with a history of reliable payments and a good tenant. If you wait to say something or just pay late you will likely face the strictest penalties allowed. Early and honest communication is your best bet.

DO NOT DO A PAYDAY LOAN TO FIX, talk to the landlord if you have been great they should be ok with a one time plus a reasonable late fee.,sadly i chose housing over anything else.

If your landlord isnt a dick there shouldn't be a problem, but this is a question for the guy who takes your money not the internet.
