Hello r/AppleMusic!
Due to the many posts asking about comparisons between Apple Music and Spotify (and other services) we are consolidating them into a single mega-thread. Per the rules, all discussion on this topic should be kept to this thread and any other posts will be removed.
Here are some ideas on what to discuss:

I'm mostly spinning hyperpop, party pop, techno, and anything nostalgic... but I'm also all over the place with rap, R&B, alt, rock, metal, oldies, J-pop, and even a lil country.
if you're a music nerd of any genre, drop your profile. I love seeing what other ppl are listening to.

I'm using the Moondrop Pudding bluetooth tws in LHDC V3, and enabling the lossless option in AM, I notice the voice and drums sound clearer compared to YTM with less "noise"
Have you guys noticed as well? I know lossless still compresses over bluetooth tho..

If you had a click-wheel iPod you probably remember Music Quiz, the little built-in game from 2003 that played a clip of a random song from your own library and made you name it, against the clock.
My friends and I spent whole summers playing it.
It got replaced by the paid iQuiz in 2007 and quietly disappeared. Apple did bring a version back as a Siri Shortcut in iOS 14, but it's not the same thing and most people never found it.
That game is the reason I built what I built. Every modern "guess the song" thing gives you one fixed daily track chosen by a stranger, which is the opposite of what made Music Quiz good: it was your music, so you had no excuse for getting it wrong.
Mine works off an Apple Music playlist. You copy a playlist link (Share Playlist → Copy Link, or just the address bar on music.apple.com), paste it in, and it builds a scored run out of that playlist: short preview, guess title and artist, clues if you're stuck but they cost you points.
Two honest differences from the original:
- Music Quiz gave you multiple choice. Here you have to type the answer, but there's an autocomplete so you're not fighting spelling.
X
- Music Quiz read your library straight off the device. This reads the playlist's you upload, so you need to have hit Share Playlist → Copy Link.
Something I learned building the Apple Music side, in case anyone here finds it interesting: Apple's editorial playlists are genuinely localised per storefront. The same pl. ID returns a different tracklist depending on the country code in the URL — /us/ gave me "Today's Hits" with 50 tracks, /it/ gave "Successi del momento" with 70, different name and all. So it doesn’t change just the title but the whole content.
Disclosure: I'm the developer. Curated and community playlists are free with no account; building one from your own link is the paid part (just 1$ to cover costs even for the free version).
Somebody says 3 seconds preview is too easy, others it’s too hard. I was thinking of doing different levels of difficulties but I’d like to hear your view on it.
Happy to answer anything about the Apple Music side.
Edit: I’m a senior developer with a full time job, this is not some vibe coded sloppy shit. I’ve been working on it during my free time for the last 1-2 years. The original version had no audio preview, just AI generated hints.
The game is called songle. Use Apple20 if you wanna a 20% discount

So it looks like I'm reaching the limit of the music I can store on my mac internal drive, thus I'm considering moving it entirely to an external SSD or eventually a cloud but I'm not entirely sure on how to do it in the safest way to avoid messing my whole library up.
I've done this before, back when it was iTunes, but now I fear it's more complicated as I dont want to fuck up the syncing of my cloud library...
Any tips, steps to follow to be safe ?
Thanks

It seems clear now that Apple has a strategy to make Music more like the app store. Apple's API for Music is the most open of all the streaming services. Leading to a small explosion of specialized Music apps for playback of Music like Lysoniq, Sessionography, that app that is nothing but album covers, etc. I don't think the Apple Music app will be going away but, something is up for sure! Apple Classical was the in house test of this idea.

I recently switched to Apple Music, and I've always had Android phones.
To my surprise, the songs won't play. I hit the play button, it turns into a pause button for a fraction of a second before going back to play button, then nothing.
I have an active subscription, and I've tried all the force-stop, erase cache/data, uninstall ideas. Still not working.
I got a Samsung S25 Ultra if that makes a difference. Any ideas?

I noticed something with Apple Music and I’m curious if anyone else can reproduce it. I have Sound Check turned off, but when I play a playlist or a station, the songs seem to be automatically level matched. The volume between tracks stays noticeably more consistent than I’d expect based on the actual masters, and a few db quieter usually.
I then noticed I can take a song that’s currently playing in a playlist or station, navigate directly to that exact same song/album, and start it manually. When I do that, it plays at its normal level and can be noticeably louder or quieter depending on the master. This seems to be any playlist like Discovery station or "For you".
I initially thought this might be an issue with the Windows app, but I’m seeing the same behavior on my MacBook, which makes me wonder if this is something happening on Apple’s end.
I know Apple Music obviously has loudness data available for Sound Check, but I haven’t seen Apple mention a separate normalization feature for playlists or stations.
Anyone else notice this? Is it by design?

I’m having an issue with album art sync, on all my devices apart from my iPhone the album art is showing correctly, I even checked Apple Music on the web and the art covers show the same, I don’t have any music downloaded I stream everything from Apple Music directly yet it’s still showing me cover art from when I use to have music downloaded from my music pool I subscribed to a few years ago. I have tried to delete the Apple Music app on iPhone, I’ve tried deleting the song and adding it back but nothing seems to be working, anyone know a fix on how I could get my album artwork to match

I connect my iPad 9th Generation up via a cable, goto Finder click sync and then wait for 10-20 mins for
"Syncing - Waiting for changes to be applied" to actually start doing something. (This is my main issue)
then it slowly transfers songs at about a rate of 2 songs a second
Then most of the time the albums in folders do not transfer at all, even though they are all ticketed within the drop down arrow.
Then when I hit sync again it will keep on syncing the same songs every time, even though they are definitely on the iPad. (This doesn't bother me, but it's still a bug)
I had this exact issue with my older iPad too. I thought having a more modern iPad would stop the issues but it doesn't.
Note: This "Songs in folders not transferring" issue is also the same with my iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 26 - The only work around is to untick the whole main folder, sync, disconnect the device, reconnect the device, tick the whole folder again and sync again.
Is there any other way to transfer music, playlists and playlists folder to my iPad please?
Running:
Mac Mini M4 Pro: Seqouia 15.7.7
Mac Music app: 1.5.6.11
iPad iOS 18.6 (Please don't tell me to update it as I'm not going to - I do not want ios 26 ruining another device of mine)

With Apple Music being the most beautiful in all segments this "Essential Album" which btw every artist has on their page looks so unpolished. It would look better if the word 'Essential' just had a little animation rather than those pointy edges with slideshow transition effect.

As someone who never used Apple Music, I decided to give it a try but idk I don’t see music that’s supposed to exist. Idk if I’m missing out on something but yeah where are all the other tracks on the album. Like if there’s something I’m missing out on please someone let me know

Recently started reconsidering how much do I need Apple Music as a subscription.
In old days music used to cost $0.99 per song on iTunes. Thats roughly 15 songs worth what I pay for subscription every month. Thats close to 200 songs a year. I don’t think I listen to this many songs.
This got me thinking. I see Apple iTunes still functions and still sells songs.
Have anyone actually tried to switch to buying songs and albums like people did in the past and stop this subscription madness?
Are there any downsides? Like you can only download purchased tracks on 3 devices and after 4th iPhone upgrade youre done. Or is there a chance iTunes is discontinued or something along these lines?
